Another scene I saw was when Simon's Dad apologizes for not knowing Simon is gay. At the end of the scene, his dad says,
"Hey I thought maybe we could sign up for Grindr together."
Simon, "You don't know what Grindr is, do you?"
Dad' "It's Facebook for gay people."
Simon, "It's not what it is."

I LOL'd so much at this!!

I love that! "Facebook for gay people."

Interesting that Simon already knows what it is. ...  ::)

I've read a review where Duhamel's character is described as "a loveable doofus." Maybe that's why.

I wondered the same thing about Simon knowing about Grindr, but teenagers nowadays know what all that stuff is.

I am going to try to see it this weekend.

Very nice scene.  It makes me want to see this.  I had seen previews but had written it off more as a teen-heartthrob film with a gay central character. Maybe I should give it a 2nd look.  It's sitting at 91% on Rotten and showing in no less that 6-7 theaters locally.  WOW! quite a large # of screens for a film about a teens, one of whom happens to be gay?  (And that's a good thing...)

3.5 on Ebert's site -> https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/love-simon-2018

I  saw it yesterday and really loved it. It IS based on a YOUNG ADULT novel, many of which are gay themed. If you are looking for an angst filled, life changing gay movie, this is not for you. If you are looking for an interesting, fun, teenaged problems, sweet film, this is for you. It was almost 2 hours of good entertainment, that has normal looking kids, deep friendships, teenaged angst and a turdy teenaged protagonist and great parents and teachers.

If you are looking for some good entertainment with a really positive message, some normal negativity, then I highly recommend this movie. I had a good time watching it. There were a few gay viewers, and lots of moms with daughters at the theater.

Towleroad did a much better review than I, and agree with their comments. They said it is a must see.

 :o  Umm ....

Or is there a new meaning to that word I'm not aware of?

Or do you mean the antagonist is a . ...

(I've read somewhere that there is a nasty kid who tries to blackmail the title character. That would make him Simon's antagonist.)

You're right, Jeff. I used the wrong "taganest" word. My apologies.

Love Simon sounds great - a taste of vanilla is fine for me!

No need. After all, I can't tell you how many times these days my fingers refuse to type the word that's actually in my head. ...

This evening, a friend who saw Love, Simon, and really liked it, said for him it was a like a John Hughes film for gay people.  :)

(This same friend was not impressed by Call Me By Your Name because he found Armie Hammer too old to accept as an early-20s graduate student.)

I know this is the Most Anticipated Film thread, but the movie isn't out yet, though I am
not anticipating it.

Another version of A STAR IS BORN.

In the last decade there's been talk of another remake, last I heard it was going to be with Beyonce and Russell Crowe.
There was even talk of a musical stage version with Andrew Lloyd Weber composing. I hadn't heard anything more about
it for a long time until today when I found out Bradley Cooper has been directing and starring in another remake along with
Lady Gaga. Coming out in October.

If there's to be a remake of any film I have always said there should be at least ONE good reason. I cannot think of a good
reason this is being remade again. Why not reverse the rising star, falling idol format and have the man rise and woman fall?
Why not a two men or two women relationship? This will be the third time that it's the "music" that's at the career center.
Why not change the career out of the entertainment industry. How about the fashion world? Why not politics?

This will be the 5th version of the story, unless you count the x-rated versions, like A STAR IS PORN or A WHORE IS BORN.
Or the Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes version: A STAR IS BORED. The first was called What Price Hollywood? in 1932.

Yikes! I'm not anticipating this one either. I'm not a fan of Bradley Cooper but pairing him with Lady Gaga is just odd. I can't imagine there could be any chemistry between them. Granted, I've only seen her in AHS so I'm picturing that character.

Some people really liked the Barbra and Kris version of the film. I truly wanted Streisand to star with Elvis!! Can you imagine the box office for that film? Specially since Elvis passed away so soon after it was made......it would have become a Classic for Elvis fans!! I never cared for the Barbra/Kris version.
And I'm a Babs FAN too......only like her film work BEFORE she made this one......

^^Babs and Fat Elvis? God, no! Unless it was a madcap comedy?
