That whole paragraph of the story is just perfect. Love it.

From the movie, this always makes me smile: 'It ain't going nowhere. Let it be."

In fact, a lot of my favourite quotes are Jack's.

It is perfect. :)
“When we grow older still we’ll speak about those two young men as if they were two strangers..... And we’ll want to call it envy, because to call it regret would break our hearts.”

"Little darlin'."

 :-*

Yeah. Too bad it isn't in the film. Would've LOVED to hear it! Some say Ennis whispers "Darlin'" when he first hugs Jack at their reunion, but I'm not too sure...
If it was me, I  also would've called him darlin', though!  ;)

I like so much of the dialogue, I shouldn't have to choose.

" This is a goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation".

" I wish I knew how to quit you".  This is the line that most people often used in parodies of the film.

" Jack Fucking Twist"!

"  It's cause of you, Jack that I'm like this".

"  If you can't fix it, you gotta stand it".

John Twist: "Jack used to say, 'Ennis Del Mar', he used to say, 'I'm gonna bring him up here one of these days, and we'll lick this damn ranch into shape'."

If ever Ennis needed proof that Jack loved him, this was it.  Jack telling his folks that he has a friend named Ennis and he is going to 'bring him up here'.

That's all we've got. I hope you know that.

" Don't try and fool me no more, Ennis! I know what that means.... Jack Twist. Jack " Nasty"!  You didn't go up there to fish. You and him...."

" My dad he was a fine roper.  He didn't rodeo much he thought rodeo cowboys was all fuck-ups"

( Not an exact quote but that is the basic piture of what Ennis' dad told him about rodeo cowboys)

" Yeah well try this one and I'll say it just once.  We could of had a good life together. Fucking real good life.  Had us a place of our own.  But you didn't want it , Ennis! So what we got now is Brokeback Mountain! Everything's built on that. That's all we got boy. Fucking all. So I hope you know that if you don't never know the rest.  You count the damn few times that we've been together in nearly 20 years and you measure the short fucking leash you keep me on and then ask me about Mexico and you tell me you'd kill me for needing something that I don't hardly never get.  You have no idea how bad it gets.  I'm not you I can't make it on a couple of high-altitude fucks once or twice a year.  You are too much for me, Ennis...."

" Want a cup of coffee don't you? Piece of cherry-cake ? "

" Earlier I was castrating calves".

" All right as long as I don't have to sing".

" Maybe he's not the marrying kind".

" The what-?"

The more I got to know the book, the more I was bowled over by the language - for me its poetry is the equal of the visual poetry of the film.

I love that quote about Ennis pawing the white out of the moon.

Beautiful use of language.
