My son in law, who at the moment is teaching music in a senior school in Cambridge, punished a troublesome class by making them sit in a circle facing outward, and listening to Schonberg for 30 minutes!
;D
I should have done something like that when I was teaching. Trouble is, I would have had to prepare myself by wearing earphones

Any of the minimalists would have been punishment for me, Jess. :D

I think it worked!

Martyn is a jazz trumpeter, but he is now teaching because he doesn't want to be on tour all the time while he and my daughter have small children.

I think for choice he would rather listen to "Big Band" music or Dizzy Gillespie or Louis Armstrong.

He has done well though, the orchestra he started when he went to the school about 18 months ago came third in the "Music for Youth" competition which covers the whole country, and they got to to play at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and were featured on local radio and in the local newspaper.

So I don't think it can be all Schonberg!

Well if some of you here think that Schönberg is hard on the ears,

try Varèse!

I know that some enjoyed the opera, but I reckon the musical would have been a whole lot more enjoyable for my delicate ears.

Love the Schonberg story Jess.  :-*

Well, with news that NY Opera Co is showing the Brokeback Mountain Opera next year, perhaps it's time to bump this thread.
