Is it really that easy? Can you just paste a URL into a message and have it automatically become a hyperlink:

http://www.davecullen.com/brokebackmountain/

I've been wondering what the button gives me . . . that cutting and pasting doesn't

In the example above, using the button is a waste of time. I wish Meli knew that I was being so silly all along. It would have saved me some needless clicking.

The button does have a purpose, if you want to get needless fancy. I don't really encourage it, but it is technically possible to hyperlink some text (with the URL otherwise hidden from view). That's where the button comes in.

I think it's better to simply show the URL in most cases. It's much easier for readers to recognize the hyperlink that way.

In the pointlessly complicated example above, after highlighting the text and clicking the otherwise irrelevant hyperlink button, you then have to edit the first hyperlink code like this:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://www.davecullen.com/brokebackmountain]
That kind of manual work just invites errors (aside from the fact that it obscures the URL).
