brokeback today
watched a movie called brokeback, today,
about two cowboys, both of them gay.
i walked in the theatre expecting to cheer,
but it left me in shambles, face wet with tears.
the scene that got me was not in the tent,
it wasn't the kiss or the postcards sent.
not ennis' fears, or jack's greatest wish,
or even the times the boys left to fish.
(tho it was sweet to see them at their best,
and so sad to see alma put to the test.)
i think the best scene, at least in my mind
was the
entire damn movie, and the love the boys find.
my hat's off to ANG, and the actors, and crew,
for movies like this are too far between and few.
------------------------------------------------ aw heck, may as well continue the theme, lol.
'twas the night before brokeback
'twas the night before brokeback, and an eager cowpoke
filled a brown paper bag with two shirts and some smokes.
a shy kid, he hitched rides on rigs goin' across state,
then he stepped foot in signal, not knowing his fate.
it was there he met jack, and as love would decree,
his heart would soon fill with much beauty and glee.
with jack wearing a black hat and ennis one white,
they explored forces of nature that just felt so right.
jack's last name was twist, and he sure was a stud,
ennis was a del mar, and he made my heart thud.
they rode up the mountain and set up their camp,
and the days soon unfolded, some sunny, some damp.
now jack, he liked soup, while ennis liked beans,
and they both looked so good in and out of their jeans.
oh, tended the sheep, sure, they did that all right,
but when jack said c'mere, it was love thru the night.
they smoked and shared whisky, singing songs in the sun,
they ripped off their clothes and had man to man fun.
they reveled in youth and made quite the fine pair,
and they did so without knowing of aguirre's harsh stare.
when they left their sweet mountain, there arose such a clatter,
but their love still endured and distance was no matter.
when ennis rushed to the window and saw love standing there,
he raced down the stairs to kiss jack with no care.
(and oh, what a kiss! it knocked me off my seat, to capture this on film must be no easy feat!)
alma spied this great kiss and it dealt quite a blow,
but she didn't say much, and the boys did not know.
then, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
but the love 'tween two men, and two souls we hold dear.
with the moon on the riffles of rivers by tents,
it seemed that their love really did make good sense.
tho jack was impatient, and ennis would not sway,
the love they both shared just could not go away.
it could be like this always!
jack knew that was true,
but ennis said no way,
and this stuck like glue.
when jack cried, i wish
i knew how to quit you!
ennis was forced to utter
then, why don't you?!
as black plastic bags in a wyoming wind fly,
jack was met with an obstacle and went up to the sky.
this left ennis crushed, with just one thing to do,
to fix it
and stand it... yes, this much is true.
then, in a twinkling, ennis says from the heart,
(and tho this was the end, it's my favorite part)
"jack, i swear..."
and the man falls apart
we see tears in his eyes,
and the closet is shut.
he's left alone in a world
asking if, and, and whut.
we may wonder, as fans, what becomes of this man,
we know great love endures, and we do give a damn.
it's no easy question, but it's clear we understand
that love is a force of nature -- and ain't love grand?
