A few years ago my Goldens, Sunny and Cindy, marked their territory on these pages. No one around to mark at the moment, but who knows about the future....

Linda, big laugh how your boss took to Tootsie. Good vibes for everyone!!  ;D :-* :-*

Choose your shelter CAREFULLY. Disease runs rampant in most of them and this year, because of the weather, things are going to be the worse ever. I know, because of the economy, there are a lot of wonderful, problem free dogs sitting in shelters, waiting to be picked.

The shelter by us is very very nice, but good to know .  But it is sad to think of pets being dumped because people can't afford them!  :'(

At least, they sort of   have an excuse which is better than why most pets end up in shelters.
In 2010, 606 people (all ages) were accidentally killed by guns.
Almost 3000 teens (15-19) die in traffic accidents a year.
1100 kids under 19 drown each year.
44 kids under 5 died of heat stroke in hot cars in 2013.
HIGH school sports account for 1.2 million trips to the ER annually.

I honestly don't know,  why do they?  I go through Kijiji some nights and read about people trying to find homes for their beloved pets...and I want to ask them, why are you getting rid of them?

We only had the one dog (in our married life) and as I said we had her 17 years until her death.  I can't imagine under what circumstances we would have gotten rid of her (took her to a shelter, never) or tried to find her a new home...

I can only think people go buy a cute puppy like they buy a new blouse and then after a while they just aren't that crazy about it.

Around here, a lot of times it's because of having to move into cheaper housing with no pets allowed.  Job losses and home foreclosures account for a lot of dog displacements.  But yes, some people are still idiots and acquire a pet because it's "cute" or enhances their self-image, and then simply don't know how to cope with a living sentient creature.

Of course, they're the same ones who have babies...

The majority of animals in shelters are there because people are stupid. We live in a disposable society and people put less thought into getting a pet than they do to buying a loaf of bread. They take better care of their guns than they do their animals OR their kids.

Yea I thought of the moving thing..   Although we sold our family home and we moved into an apartment until we decided what to do next.   As it turned out we bought another house.. ::)  But we did spend a year in apartment and finding someplace that would take the dog was a HUGE problem.   But we kept looking, finally settling on a place at $1,7000 a month, just because they would let us have the dog!

A disposable society, that is for sure..

talking of this my auntie now has more dogs then ever, because of this problem, the way the economy is the first thing most people get rid of is family pets lots of these being dogs who through no fault of there own find themselves homeless

my auntie now has

Baby
Bubbles
Barney
Peaches
Harry
Josie (who was left for dead on the side of the road)
Rupert
Molly
Princess

My auntie has a heart of gold and if she finds out a dog is homeless or in need of a new home, she wont think twice, she wont even ask what breed it is, she doesnt care she loves all dogs equally, old, young, Ill, healthy, ugly, pretty, she will give them a home

I love going round there on a monday to spend time with her and all our beautiful doggies, yes they bark over my fave tv shows, take up my space on the sofa, or sit on me and are abit smelly, but we love them all, they are an important part of our family and we wouldnt change them for the world, some people round where my auntie lives think shes strange and odd,but to me she is amazing and I am sure all the doggies would agree with me

Some religious right people would have a fit if they saw these.
