tinykittenshqPrincess Consuela’s kittens, sent a few minutes ago by one of their awesome ER techs. ❤️ UPDATE 10:24pm: All three kittens are alive and well so far, and all three are nursing! Princess Consuela’s vitals are good and she is doing well.
Princess Consuela’s story is why we talk so much about spaying and neutering:
Today took an unexpected twist, as Princess Consuela went into labor and was not able to deliver her first kitten. We brought her to Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley for an emergency c-section/spay, and are relieved to report the Princess is in recovery and the veterinary team was able to save three of her four kittens.
Her first kitten had anasarca and numerous visible congenital defects that would not allow her to pass through the birth canal. There is no scenario in which she could have survived.
Her second and third kittens are thankfully doing well, and her fourth kitten has a guarded prognosis due to some indications of possible congenital defects. We will have to take things hour by hour with her.
We now know for sure the Princess and all four kittens would not have survived labor if she had not been trapped by tireless super-trapper Mona, and if the people at the auto body shop had not been kind enough to let someone know they had cats there who needed help.
She would not be getting the best possible care today and overnight without your generous support to make it possible. We are so grateful.
Because so many people cared enough to take action to help her, Princess Consuela’s story will have a happy ending. She will never experience pregnancy or a difficult labor again, is now spayed, and has life as a pampered princess to look forward to.
She and her kittens should be back on the livestream tomorrow.
