My relatives bought me a Victrola for Xmas!! Along with 5 vintage vinyl albums, collector items. I was totally surprised by the gift. Not surprised in the normal way though. I was 'surprised' because evidently NONE of them have been paying attention the past 2 years when I've lamented about my hearing loss and issues, and having to GIVE UP singing in my Choirs and gave up even TRYING to listen to Music all together.......talk about falling on DEAF EARS!! arrrggghhhhhhh!! I'm sure they took my 'look' of surprise as a positive thing........I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!! Seriously.......I was gracious though, I suppose the Victrola will be WORTH SOMETHING to someone, someday. For now, I have TRIED to listen to some of the albums with my BOSE headphones on, but it's really a no-go......I have to turn the volume WAY down, still it just sounds distorted to me.........ho-hum.......Families and Xmas gifts....always a conversation piece....... ;D

I got David Bowie's last album for Christmas, I haven't listened to it yet, I am bracing myself for it, I heard it is a hard one.

Black Star, check his last video, Lazarus. It's devastating.

Finally played my new (old) Vinyl record of Streisand's Guilty album with Barry Gibb and Gibb brothers added in......ok, didn't care for most of the songs. I know I bought it when it first hit the market, but my taste must have changed dramatically since then!! LOL....couldn't WAIT for the last song to be over..........and this album was one of her most successful, commercially-speaking. Part of it can be the mess I have with my hearing now, almost ALL music of any kind sounds a bit distorted to me, so you can't really rely on my comments about good, or bad sounding music. LOL.... :P  :o

"King Holiday" by King Dream Chorus & Holiday Crew

King Holiday is an R&B/Hip hop single released in January 1986 by the King Dream Chorus and Holiday Crew. Composed by Phillip Jones, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Bill Adler, it was released in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which was first celebrated as a national holiday in the United States on January 20, 1986. All proceeds from the single were donated to the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. The single peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart.

The project was spearheaded by Martin Luther King, Jr.'s youngest son Dexter Scott King, who is credited as the song's executive producer.

"King Holiday" was produced by Phillip Jones and Kurtis Blow. The song features:

King Dream Chorus (vocalists)

El DeBarge, Whitney Houston, Stacy Lattisaw, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force, Teena Marie, Menudo, Stephanie Mills, New Edition, James "J.T." Taylor (from Kool & the Gang)

Holiday Crew (rappers)

Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Run–D.M.C., Whodini[/size]

YouTube video  - King Dream Chorus & Holiday Crew ~ King Holiday

Once a year we celebrate -  Washington and Lincoln on their birthdates.
And now a third name is added to the list,  A man of peace, "Drum Major for justice".
Now every January on the third Monday,  We pay homage to the man who paved the way
For Freedom, Justice and Equality,  To make the world a better place for you and me.
It's a holiday! It's a gathering!   For the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King!

Dr. King tried to love somebody.   Do you wanna love somebody?
For his sake put your hate away, Take a day...   Take a day to love somebody.
Don't play on the Holiday, work to find a better way.   Everybody love somebody now.
Everybody sing for Martin Luther King.   Let freedom ring for Martin Luther King!

Holiday! Holiday! King Holiday!   Not a day just for some,
It's a day for everyone.
He had a dream now it's up to you.
He had a dream now it's up to you.   To see it through, To make it come true!

Who do we thank for teaching us   That we all have the strensth to love?
we thank the Prince of Non-Violence for  showing um the way.
How do we show the children of today   How do live together at one?
We'll sing of a King   And his words will light all of our tomorrows.

Listen children of today, Don't think love has gone away.  It's in your hearts and minds
How long? Not long? New day will shine, if we just take the chance.
His love will glow. Open up the windows!

Let the hero shine   Every day in your life,  Yours and mine.  Everybody shine.
For the future generation, Dr. King's medication,  For successful operation, is PEACE FOR EVERY NATION!

Sing! Celebrate!
Sing! Sing! Celebrate!
For a King Celebrate!
Sing! Sing! Celebrate!

Finally finished listening to my Vintage vinyl albums, all Streisand, on my new/old Victrola machine. I SOOOOOOOOO wish Streisand had QUIT singing after her 2000 or so concert tour. I was GIVEN a free ticket to her 2006 tour concert in NYC, it was a huge disappointment for me, except for her 60's song, Have I Stayed too long at the Fair......she NAILED that song in the concert. I will admit that, but the REST of the concert? A sad affair, her voice was hoarse and raspy, the venue isn't the best in Madison Sq Garden, but I have also attended a concert there by Sarah Brightman and she sounded PERFECT, so I don't know....it was my Once-in-a-Lifetime chance to hear Streisand LIVE, and I was very underwhelmed........my vinyl albums however contain 'some' of her best work. I've ALWAYS been a fan of the LIVE album recorded at the LA Forum, a MUST HAVE album for her true fans................

Too bad, Jonn.

I've always LOVED Streisand.

I'm not a huge fan of live concerts, but would have given a lot to be able to hear/experience her in the 1960s/70s/80s.

It's too late for that.
