Marriage equality is the law of the land in Virginia!

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court denied the defendants' request in our Bostic case to hear oral argument on their claims against the freedom to marry. That means marriages for gay and lesbian couples will begin in Virginia as soon as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issues its mandate - which could be at any moment!

Congratulations Fritz!

Thanks Lyle, Sara, Linda and all of y'all!

We'll go down to the courthouse tomorrow to get the license.

I still can barely believe I just wrote that.

And now we've decided that we'll do the marriage ceremony down there too.

I wish a clergy person friend could do it, but the Commonwealth requires that he have an active congregation, which he doesn't. He could do it in DC, but we'd rather stay in Virginia.

SCOTUS will not hear same sex marriage cases.

The U.S. Supreme Court has just officially turned down all of the same-sex marriage cases it was presented. Here's why this is good news.

Thank you, Sara and Jess!

We got the license from the county, and plan on having the ceremony tomorrow afternoon around 6 or so.

Marriage equality comes to Cupcake Land!

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling that said prohibitions on same-sex marriage violated the U.S. Constitution.

Two days later, a Johnson County judge directed the district court clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples without fear of being prosecuted under Kansas law. His ruling outraged some and delighted others.

“It feels like we are part of history,” said Angela Schaefer, who rushed to the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe on Wednesday afternoon with her partner, Jennifer Schaefer, to get a marriage license application. “That is a really cool feeling.”

Chief District Judge Kevin Moriarty of Johnson County wrote in his Wednesday afternoon order that “administration of justice should be free of any ambiguity or inconsistency in the administration of justice, including the issuance of marriage licenses.”
