This is ridiculous.  Makes me want to boycott israel.  And I had no idea 26 states have an idiotic law like this.  She was fired from Pflugerville school district, about 5 miles from me.

TEACHER SUES TEXAS AFTER BEING FIRED FOR REFUSING TO SIGN PRO-ISRAEL CONTRACT

A children's speech pathologist lost her job for declining to sign a document requiring she refuse to boycott Israel, according to a lawsuit filed against the Texas attorney general and a school district on Sunday.

Bahia Amawi, who had worked at the school district for nine years, was given a new contract in September. The document required her to affirm "that she does not currently boycott Israel and will not boycott Israel during the term of the contract." When she declined to sign, she "was forced to terminate her contractual relationship with the school district."

Really. What the bloody hell does support for Israel (or lack thereof) have to do with her job in a public school district?

I tried to do some research on this and found a good article.  The whole thing is worth reading but I copied and highlighted from the last 2 paragraphs, sums it up pretty well.

Why Should My Newspaper Pledge Not to Boycott Israel?
By Alan Leveritt, Publisher, Arkansas Times
JANUARY 3, 2019 | 1:00 PM

This law is a rabbit hole our country does not need to go down. Since when do American citizens have to pledge to act in the interest of a foreign power in order to do business with their own government? Since when does the state of Arkansas punish its own taxpayers in an effort to assist a foreign government with its domestic policy?

As an American, I say it is none of their damn business what political beliefs we hold. We’ll see them in court.

CNN is out of control, they're as bad as Fox, unfair and unbalanced.  so equal rights for Palestinians = destruction of Israel?

SENATORS WORKING TO SLIP ISRAEL ANTI-BOYCOTT LAW THROUGH IN LAME DUCK
December 4 2018, 11:18 a.m

The measure, known as the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, was shelved earlier amid concerns about the infringement of free speech, after civil liberties groups argued that the original version would have allowed criminal penalties for Americans who participate in a political boycott of Israel. Some of the more aggressive elements of the provision have been removed under pressure, but the American Civil Liberties Union, which spearheaded the initial opposition to the bill, is still strongly opposed.

Temple University professor Marc Lamont Hill was fired last week as a CNN political contributor for a speech he gave at the U.N. calling for equal rights for Palestinians living within Israel or territory controlled by Israeli forces. Critics charged that the speech called for the “destruction of Israel,” though it did not.

Nancy Pelosi just pulled a major power move on Donald Trump's State of the Union

Sometimes the best power moves in politics are conveyed in the most mundane language.

"Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29," wrote Speaker Nancy Pelosi to President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

As Speaker, I guess she can disinvite him from the House, can't she?

Probably wouldn't be a good political move, though.

I have a new idol in the political world, the speaker of the UK parliament.

Maybe HE would be able to control Trump.

Yes, the House and the Senate both have to vote to invite him into the Chambers to give the SOTU address. The article stated as much. Some people say it is a good idea, some not.

Due to her early days in cutthroat Baltimore politics, she has a way of decapitating a political enemy using a velvet sword, and it's over before the other person realizes it.
