I turned one year old a week before they won it!

I was in third grade, and kids of all grades brought their portable (tube) radios. The nuns were mostly tolerant, except during class.

I love the Ken Burn's Baseball documentary episode that features Brooklyn winning
the World Series. It's so joyful!

Back in New Orleans I never met anyone rooting for the Yankees, it was Brooklyn all the way! We had quite an affinity for that borough, since our accents were very similar.

Still, one of the game announcers had to say "I still think the Yankees are going to win the ALCS."

Sheesh.  It always seems to me that announcers talk about the Yankees way more during any game.
If it's between the Yankees and Red Sox, they talk about the Yankees during their at bats. When the
Red Sox are up they talk about the Yankees during the Red Sox at bats. I believe I compared it to that
famous line from the Brady Bunch: "All I ever hear about is Yankees, Yankees, Yankees."

So...the Red Sox beat the Yankees last night 3 games to 1 and after the game ESPN has a whole half-hour
program about the Yankees season and how it played out etc.  I mean, really?  The Red Sox win and the
Yankees get a half-hour program about their season?

Apparently after the Yankees won their game in Boston, video emerged of Aaron Judge loudly playing
New York, New York in the Boston clubhouse. So, guess what the Red Sox did in their winning celebration
in Yankee Stadium last night? Their clubhouse was rockin', too, with New York, New York! Boston also clinched
the Eastern Division title at Yankee stadium last month. Start spreadin' the news...

I was looking at how Boston did against Houston this year.
They won 3 and lost 4.

Boston won 10 and lost 9 to the Yankees, so all things considered, who knows?
Most analysts say the hard part is getting to the play-offs and anything after that
is a crapshoot.

Last year the Dodgers hadn't played Houston at all before the WS.
This year we had three interleague games with them in August, right
after we played the Brewers, and we lost one and won one that were
both close. The middle game was not close and we lost that one. We
did not play Boston at all this year. (But we are next year, both Boston
and the Yankees.)

I also looked up to see if the Boston Red Sox and the Dodgers had ever
played in a World Series together. Sort of? The Dodgers had different
names the first part of their history. The team was known as the Robins
from 1914 to 1931, in honor of legendary (?) manager Wilbert Robinson.
In 1916 the Robins went to their first World Series and played the Boston
Red Sox, with Babe Ruth, in that year's contest. The Red Sox won.

So it would be something different for the Dodgers and Red Sox to play
a World Series together. If they do, they will be playing in the oldest and
the 3rd oldest baseball stadiums in the entire U.S. The 2nd oldest is the
Cubs Wrigley Field.  Can you believe Dodger Stadium is the 3rd oldest ball
park in the whole country?

As I await the NLCS tomorrow, while looking for something on the Sports thread from last
year that I wanted to know, I happened to see this post I had made on November 08, 2017:

Quote
Strange statistic:

In the last 12 years, all of the MLB teams that have clinched their World Series appearance first,
even if it was only one day earlier, have lost the World Series, except for one, the Phillies in 2008.

That seems like it would be just a giant coincidence. I don't see, especially if it was just one day earlier,
why or how that could make a difference. And yet, there you have it.
