The past few years MLB has had an opening series to start the season out of the country. These are official regular season games that count. I know a couple years ago the Dodgers played in Sydney, Australia for the opening season game. The players who participate get some added salary, although you wonder how much salary is an enticement to some of those guys with what they already get paid! Also, last year the Dodgers played a regular season series in Monterrey, Mexico. This year there are more plans:
TOKYO, JAPAN: It will begin with the opening series in Tokyo, Japan between the Seattle Mariners and host Oakland Athletics at the
Tokyo Dome on March 20 - 21. The regular season for all teams begins a week later.
MONTERREY, MEXICO: There will be six games played at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, starting with spring training games between the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks on March 9-10. In the regular season, the Cincinnati Reds will host the St. Louis Cardinals on April 13-14, and the Los Angeles Angels will play the Houston Astros on May 4-5.
LONDON, ENGLAND: The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will play the first-ever MLB games in Europe -- June 29-30 in London.
Yowsa! I know when London had the Summer Olympics the IOC deleted baseball from the activities because London didn't have any place
for teams to play baseball and they weren't going to build a stadium, so I'm wondering where they'll be playing! I know that football has
played some official games over there.
I've been avoiding baseball talk so far because after the last two years I've not been in the mood for "talk." I looked at the Dodgers schedule
recently and for interleague play we'll be playing the American League East, so we have a series with the Boston Red Sox. In Boston. We are
also playing the Yankees here in Los Angeles in August.
Just six weeks to opening day!
