Anne Hathaway to Star in Heist Movie Set During the Coronavirus Pandemic, Titled Lockdown: Report

Benjamin VanHoose  9/10/2020

On Wednesday, Deadline reported that Anne Hathaway is in talks to star in a movie set during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, currently titled Lockdown. According to the outlet, the Oscar winner, 37, will lead the film, which is described as a blend of heist adventure and romantic comedy.

Deadline said Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman will helm the movie, with a script by Steven Knight, who was nominated for an Oscar for writing 2002's Dirty Pretty Things. Knight also wrote Serenity, the 2019 thriller that starred Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey.

Liman, 55, has also been tapped to direct Tom Cruise's ambitious project expected to be shot in space, it was previously reported. The Edge of Tomorrow duo teamed up to orchestrate the upcoming action film production on the International Space Station with help from NASA and SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

Kristin Chenoweth Joins New 'The Witches' Adaptation Starring Anne Hathaway

By John Conner Coulsgton - September 28, 2020

Kristin Chenoweth has joined Warner Bros.'s new adaptation of Roald Dahl's creepy children's book The Witches. The studio slipped the casting announcement into a one-sheet of production information sent to media late Friday night. Chenoweth's exact role was not announced, but she joins a star-studded cast that already boasts Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock, Jahzir Kadeem Bruno and Codie-Lei Eastick. Legendary Back to the Future and Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis is helming the film.

The movie — officially titled Roald Dahl's The Witches — seems to follows the novel's plot reasonably closely. The synopsis is as follows: "Reimagining Dahl's beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis's visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world's Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans."

This project, which does not have a release date, is the second cinematic adaptation of The Witches since its publication in 1983. Anjelica Huston led the cast of the first version, 1990's The Witches. That film grossed $15.3 million and gave children around the globe nightmares. (Plus, it has experienced a recent resurgence due to its current availability on Netflix.)

Anne Hathaway, Huey Lewis, Kenny G, and Tim Robinson want to join the Postal Service

Randall Colburn - 10/07/2020

The Postal Service’s Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello linked up with Tom Scharpling, Jon Daly, and a surprising slew of celebrities several years back for a very funny “audition” video to help promote their 2013 reunion tour and deluxe reissue of their one-and-done LP. Now, the group’s done it again, this time in support of HeadCount’s “Make Your Vote Count” campaign. Yeah, we’re sick of Zoom windows, too, but this 18-minute video is a genuine riot.

Daly returns as “Dave from Sub Pop,” spearheading an effort with Gibbard,  Tamborelloto, and Jenny Lewis to beef up the band for a fall tour to “get the word out about voting.” See, nobody wants to see “three dorks just bopping around onstage,” so he’s hoping to add enough members to constitute “two and a half Polyphonic Sprees.” That means auditioning anyone and everyone, from storied musicians like Huey Lewis, Rick Springfield, Kenny G, J Mascis, Kim Thayil, and Tunde Adebimpe to actors and comedians like Patton Oswalt, Bret McKenzie, Vanessa Bayer, Aparna Nancherla, and many more.

Anne Hathaway's 'terrifying' transformation for new role

Kristine Tarbert  10/16/2020

Anne Hathaway has revealed her terrifying transformation into The Grand High Witch for the upcoming reboot of The Witches.  The 37-year-old virtually had fans scurrying to hide under their beds after the first trailers of the film were shared on social media.

The Witches is a dark comedy based on the 1983 book by children’s author Roald Dahl. Anne recently told People that her role needed a lot of prep work

“The Grand High Witch was a total collaboration between costumes, hair and make-up, the writers, my dialect coach, the effects department, stunts, [director] Bob Zemeckis and myself," she told the publication.    “She is such a weirdo — so silly and over the top — and everyone had to work together to be on the same page so it felt big and entertaining but never too much.”

People were quick to take to social media calling the star’s look “terrifying” and the stuff of “nightmares”.

“Now a whole new generation of kids [is going to] need therapy,” one person wrote.

“That grin is pure nightmare fuel,” another said.

While a third simply called the whole look “Fright Night vibes”.

Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway Will Reunite for Another Heist Flick

Olivia Harvey  -  October 13, 2020

Move over Ocean's 8. Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway have another heist flick in the works. Kaling and Hathaway will reunite for an upcoming "heist thriller/romantic comedy" from Steven Knight (A Christmas Carol, Serenity) called Lockdown, and yes, it has to do with the actual lockdown.

Per Deadline, the film takes place during the COVID-19 lockdown and follows a "sparring couple" played by Hathaway and Chewitel Eijofor, as they call a truce in order to plan and execute a high-stakes jewelry heist at Harrods, the London-based ultra-exclusive department store.

Though it has yet to be revealed which character Kaling will play, this will be the second time she and Hathaway both starred in a jewelry heist-related movie. The actresses both starred in 2018's Ocean's 8, which was set against the high-profile Met Gala.

How Anne Hathaway’s ‘Brokeback Mountain’ Lie Was Exposed

Alex Castillo November 10, 2020

Anne Hathaway has been in a lot of blockbuster movies during her career. From her early days as a princess to her Academy Award-winning role in the musical Les Misérables, Hathaway has proved that she has the range and depth of a talented actress.

One of the roles she will always be remembered for is the part she played in Brokeback Mountain. But that movie, which advanced her career in important ways, could have gone to someone else. Hathaway did everything she could to land the part — even telling the director a lie. But it wasn’t long before the truth came out.

Hathaway has starred in an impressive number of hit movies that range from fun comedies to heartbreaking dramas. According to Biography, the actress was born in Brooklyn in 1982. Her passion for acting led her to become the only teen ever accepted into The Barrow Group, an acting school in New York City.

Hathaway had done some acting on TV before she landed the movie role that would catapult her into fame. She starred in The Princess Diaries, and she became a household name seemingly overnight. She went on to star in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and Ella Enchanted before starting to move into more serious roles.

One of the movies that signaled her ability to play a wrenching dramatic role was 2005’s groundbreaking Brokeback Mountain.

The opening scene of Brokeback Mountain was set in Wyoming in 1963, and it told the story of two cowboys, Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis Del Mar (Heath Ledger) falling in love. It was a powerful story because it challenged entrenched stereotypes about gay men’s masculinity, and also because it portrayed their relationship as a tender and heartbreaking love story.

It became a huge hit, and it was a meaningful step forward for acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

In the movie, Hathaway played the part of Lureen, a Texas rodeo queen. She marries Jack, and her emotionally complex delivery helped people see the talented actress in a new light.

Anne Hathawy, Chiwetel Ejiofor Led Pandemic-Heist Film ‘Lockdown’

Tyler Justin Pruyn - December 4TH, 2020

Via Deadline, Doug Liman’s latest film, Lockdown, starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor has been acquired for distribution by Warner Bros. They also announced, right before the huge announcement that their entire 2021 slate will be available on HBO Max the same day as theaters, that Lockdown will be an HBO Max Original. This will be Hathaway’s second film to be released on HBO Max, the first being The Witches.

The story follows a couple, Linda(Hathaway) and Paxton (Ejiofor), in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdowns that were prolific around the world earlier this year. In a bid to change their recent bouts of arguments, the duo plan to rob Harrods, one of the most prestigious department stores in all of London.

The film has quite the ensemble as in addition to Hathaway and Ejiofor, the film stars Ben Stiller, Stephen Merchant, Lucy Boynton, Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling, Dulé Hill, and Mark Gatiss.
