The sixth and final event  before the Grand Prix Final took place this weekend, and it was very strange.

At Skate America, the pairs and ice dance competitions went off without a hitch.  Then, the wheels seemed to fall off the event.

The bad luck started  with the men's short program, when American Nathan Chen was sitting while his coach was sharpening his blade.  The coach felt the blade was not correct, and made Chen wait while he sharpened it.  Despite this distraction, Nathan finished first in the short  program.

Next day was the long program.   Israeli skater Daniel Samohin took to the ice and fell hard on his quad toe jump, and dislocated his shoulder.  He was in so much pain he stopped his program and left  the ice.

The next skater was American Adam Rippon.   He took to the ice and also fell  on his quad jump, and also dislocated his shoulder.  However, he popped it back into its place, and continued with his skate.

Last skater of the night was Nathan Chen.   He and his coach felt his original blade was not  right, and they removed it from the skate and put on a new blade.  This threw Nathan's skating off, causing 3 major mistakes.   However, because he hit the difficult quad lutz, and had such a big lead after the short program,  Nathan still won the gold medal.

On to the ladies competition.   American favorite Ashley Wagner took the ice in her long program, and changed her first combo jump from a triple-triple  to a triple-double.   Then, the next jumping  pass of a double-triple became a double-double.   At that point,  Ashley pointed to her ankle, stopped her program and  left the ice.  Backstage, she explained to a reporter that she had an infection in her right ankle (which is the foot she uses to land her jumps) and had not been on the ice for two weeks.   Rather than skate in pain, she opted to leave the ice.

The one bright spot was in the middle of this all, American Bradie Tennell.   She  had entered this event, it was her first senior competition, and she skated well enough to win a bronze medal, and is now considered a "spoiler" for the upcoming US Nationals in January.

He looks a little bit like a young Joe Namath.

KC is benching on of their STAR players, Marcus Peters? He's an a-hole on the field and other places. Fantastic player, but very juvenile too......just what they NEED to do on a losing streak, hold out star players!! OMG....they HAVE to win the next 2 games, to make the playoffs....no choices....arrrggghhhhhh!!!

The sixth and final event  before the Grand Prix Final took place this weekend, and it was very strange.
At Skate America, the pairs and ice dance competitions went off without a hitch.  Then, the wheels seemed to fall off the event.

When is the Grand Prix Final?

Speaking of skating, CHuck, have you seen, or have any interest in, the new film I, TONYA?
I saw it Friday night and I thought it was really good.

As the RT synopsis reads:  Based on the unbelievable, but true events, I, TONYA is a darkly comedic tale of
American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Led by
strong work from Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan and Alison Janney, I, Tonya finds the humor in its real-life
story without losing sight of its more tragic -- and emotionally resonant -- elements.

I don't want to give anything away, and I'm not being specific, but there's a moment in the film, as the audience
I was in was laughing, me included, where Tonya has a moment where she looks at the audience/camera and says
something that puts us all to shame. We basically get called out.
