According to what was posted on her FB page, she passed away yesterday from a pulmonary embolism in her lung.

As I said elsewhere, I am very sorry to hear this news about Karen.  I do remember her saying that she was a teacher, and I believe she was from Denton, Texas.

I went back to my mom's house after the hoe-down in 2007 and happened to mention (to my mom) some of the people I met that weekend of the Colorado BBQ.  My mom has a connection with Texas, and has asked several times since then about "the teacher from Denton, Texas."

I only met Karen that one evening (in the first picture here, at the table at the hoe-down following the Estes Park barbecue) but remember her sweet disposition and her interest in other people.
Jack's from Texas.

My friend Michael's partner, Joel Latner, passed away very peacefully this morning at 5:30 AM. Michael was at his side.

May he Rest in Peace. You will be missed, my friend.

Joel was a master gardener, so Joel and his partner of 38 years, Jim, will be scattered at an organic flower garden in Austin, per Joel's wishes.

Thanks, Chuck. Michael and I talked for about an hour, just remembering things. We have been there for each other through a lot of things over the years.

Thanks so much, Sara and Sonja. I spoke with him briefly this morning and he is doing OK. Getting the hospice care equipment picked up and taking care of some legal issues. He plans on going back to work tomorrow.

It seems to me it all went very fast - from diagnosis to his passing.

Must have been hard to have so little time left together.

Well, when the Oncologist diagnosed the TYPE of cancer it was in late February, they were told it was very aggressive and there was no treatment and gave them 6-12 months.

Last Tuesday, the Oncologist said she was very, very surprised how fast it had progressed. Of course since this type of cancer was so rare, she may not have dealt with it before.

The choir prayed for him Sunday morning, I'll tell them of his passing.
