hi gweldon,

where did you buy the original dvd? Can you tell me the where? In Jakarta right? Did you get wide screen or full screen? I live far away from big city and about 12 hours by car from jakarta so all I can find is the pirated one here...In the near future I'll be in Jakarta so I'm hoping to buy one or two...Thanks in advance!

Hello Nadia...apa kabar ;)
I'm from Indonesia also, been visiting here for a few months now...but recently been very busy (working and watching the DVD  ;D ), so can't login as much as before....
Only been able to watch 4 times...but did bought 5 DVDs for me and my friends.
buying original one, not the pirated one :p ...

I reacted the same way as you....I'm happily married to a wonderful woman, and I'm what many call/label a bisexual (my wife do know my sexual-orientation before we're married). you can read about my 'brokeback story' in my previous post (click on my profile to read my past posts)

anyway...glad to find another indonesian here in the forum....plan to watch it again tonight on my DVD (been watching it on DVD  for 50++ times already, I think). hope you enjoy your visit here as much as me....

I love this movie. I think that the people, no matter western or Asians, who love this movie, are more or less sharing the same feeling : after seeing the movie, we were haunted for very long time for the visions, emotions, atmosphere of the movie. A kind of helplessness and sad felling would constantly press our heart. That feeling mainly came from watching or involving in Ennis’s feeling and situation. And also came from Jack and their wives and girlfriend and even parents and other characters. They were so real! They were full of ordinary people’s helplessness, struggle and twisted human being. There were full of different layers and complicated feelings. And then, we will filter in great details about every single seem-to-be-nothing dialogue, and those say-a-lot eyes and facial expression and actions……it seems that very few movies, or no another movie, could have made such a great deep impact and inspiration on emotion and thinking. It was like rolling a snowball. Our feeling was rolled to be stronger and stronger, but it didn’t let explore or just let out at last. It was just kept pressing our heart that made us not able to breath. It made us use our own feeling and thinking to digest all we got from the movie.

But in Hong Kong, unlike in Taiwan, I haven’t seen lots of people feel the same as I do. So, it is cheerful to be here. Thank you and please forgive my poor English.

Your English is just fine, HKGuy. We all feel about the movie the same way, which is why we're here!

And welcome to the forum. I've seen your posts in Chinese, but I am unable to read them without machine translation!

Lost in Translation! Funny Bahasa Malaysia dialogue!!
« Reply #22 on: August 24, 2006, 08:35:48 AM »
Hi everyone,

I recently made one of my twice-a-year trips to Malaysia.  While there, I couldn't help myself and bought a (non-official) copy of BBM.  It's sad really, the film wasn't cleared by the government for screening, so the illegal copies are the only way the public will get to see the film.  I did have several copies of the UK and US versions (bought on pre-order when it was first released), but was curious to see what they'd do to the dialogue, as often times, TV programs end up with terrible translations.

Well, BBM was not spared, whomever did the translation came up with some howlers!  Those of you that speak Bahasa Malaysia or Indonesian will get the full benefit of the inadvertent jokes, but I will translate as best as I can.  So, a few example:

Original Dialogue: Your folks from ranch people?
Bahasa Malaysia: Kamu berasal dari Nashville?
Translation: Are you from Nashville?

OD: Watch it there, that horse looks like it's got a low startle point.
TR: Watch it there, that horse looks as if it wants to race.

OD: Don't want the Game and Fish catch us with no deer.
BM: Tak mahu menakutkan semua ikan pergi.
TR: Don't want to scare all the fish away.

OD: Yee-haw!  Yee-haw!  I'm spurrin' his guts out! ... he can't dashboard me!  No way!  Yee-haw!
BM: Ha ha... whoa!  Dia keluar.  Jack yang ganas... tidak.
TR: Ha ha... whoa!  He's out.  Fierce jack... not.

OD: Take your friend to the Knife & Fork.
BM: Kamu fikir kami mampu?
TR: Think we can afford it?

OD: Bring me a fish, Daddy, a big one.
BM: Dia sebut satu perkataan besar.
TR: He said a big word.

OD: There ain't no reins on this one.
BM: Tiada jangkamasa dalam hal ini.
TR: There's no time-limit on this one.

OD: 'Cause the Big Horn Mountains ain't in Texas.
BM: Sebab ikan jenis Big Horned tiada di Texas.
TR: Because the Big Horned type of fish isn't found in Texas.

OD: Jack Nasty!
BM: Jack yang Jahat...
TR: Jack who is bad...

OD: Expect to get shot by Lureen or the husband one.
TR: Might be shot by a soldier (marine) or her husband.

OD: I wish I knew how to quit you.
BM: Kalaulah saya dapat melupakan kamu.
TR: I wish I knew how to forget you.

Lost in translation - Part II
« Reply #23 on: October 21, 2006, 11:12:14 AM »
Hi there, I got round to watching BBM a few more times, and had a couple of hours to go over the "bad" version from Malaysia.  So I spotted a few more bloopers, so here goes.

Original Dialogue: Evening get 'em bedded down.
Bahasa Malaysia: Malam saya tidur.
Translation: I sleep in the evening.

OD: Shot a coyote up there.
BM: Terdapat seekor koyote di sana.
TR: There was a coyote up there.

OD: ... before the transmission went on the pickup.
TR: ... that was before the broadcast was installed in the truck.

OD: Christ, half the goddamn paint brands have wore off.
TR: I feel like a fool in this world.

OD: Oh, where is it? Shit!
BM: Itulah dia!
TR: That's it!

OD: ... and give him a hand through the winter.
BM: ... menolongnya sehingga musim panas.
TR: ... help him until summer.

OD: I told her it keeps me fit.
BM: Saya beritahunya dia sepatutnya berasa sakit.
TR: I told her she ought to feel sick.

OD: Bound to be a lot of pussy on the hoof in a crowd like this.
TR: Many pretty married women here.

OD: All swoll'd up with patriotic pride and ready to be humped like a frog.
TR: All have come out so that you can choose them and you can have sex with.

OD: This is Lureen Newsome from right here in Childress, Texas!
BM: Ya, Lureen memang tahu jalannya di sini di Childress, Texas.
TR: Yes, Lureen knows her way here in Childress, Texas!

OD: He's onboard Sleepy today.
BM: Pencabarnya seperti mengantuk hari ini.
TR: His opponent looks sleepy today.

OD: Son of a bitch. [Reunion scene]
BM: Begitu gembira kamu boleh.
TR: So glad you could.

OD: No, too busted up.
BM: Tidak, saya berehat terlalu banyak.
TR: No, I'm too rested.

OD: It's nearly suppertime.
BM: Sekarang pertengahan musim panas.
TR: It's the middle of summertime.

OD: Listen to her purr, gentlemen.  You ain't gonna get that with your Caddy!
BM: Menghadapi kesusahan dalam penyaluran? Tak akan dapat itu dengan alat ini.
TR: Facing problems with the distribution? You won't get that with this equipment.

OD: Jesus! [Fight scene at Blue and Black Eagle Bar]
BM: Nabi Isa!
TR: Prophet Isa! [Moslem way of addressing Jesus Christ]

OD: All I'm sayin' is, what's the point of making it?
TR: I'm only saying, the first to make it.

OD: Then I met old Randall here at an Aggie game.
BM: Tapi saya terjumpa dengan Randall di Niagy Dam.
TR: But I met Randall at Niagy Dam.

OD: Each time I slip off to see her.
BM: Dia sedang beritahu kami tentang ini.
TR: She's telling us about this.

OD: I left word for you with Steve at the ranch.
TR: So I bargained for you with Steve at the ranch.

OD: Jack, I swear...
BM: Ya Tuhan, saya bersumpah...
TR: Oh God, I swear...

In particular, the last was the worst, which misses the so much of the storyline.  Perhaps the translator was thinking of future novenas to be said to to "St Jack Twist, patron saint of the loveless".

An announcement from the moderators about the slowdown problem that we’ve been experiencing at various times, centering from about 9:00 am until about 12:00 noon GMT:

The administration has been working extremely hard to solve the slow down issue that has been plaguing the forum for some months now. It has been determined that to solve this we will have to change the host company of the forum. The new host server has now been contracted with by Dave as of today.

We are proceeding rapidly now and hope to have the conversion complete within a few weeks at the latest and hopefully much sooner. We will keep you (members) apprised. Please look for announcements in the Newsbox. Some changes will likely come up suddenly--that is the nature of computer conversions, so it is impossible to know before we test whether something will go flawlessly and take two hours, or uncover thorny issues that will take days. The testing process is being started. This will not affect the forum at this point.

So taking this into consideration, we don't want to give you timeframes that are unrealistic. As soon as we finish a stage, we'll proceed immediately to the next, and the exact changeover will likely come on very short notice to you (members). We will post this changeover time in the Newsbox as well as in the individual threads, and will give you as much lead time as we can manage. This will enable us to end the slowdown ASAP.

Thank you for your patience.
