Verrry Handsome...ooh la la!
This one is my favorite, I think--such a wonderful lighting effect. :)
I like this costume:
Thanks for posting the pics, Inyg. :)
I just loved seeing your pictures from "Lou Queercarnaval" dear Ingmar !! All of them. I loved the masks, the dresses, the leather, the butts, the breasts, the drummers, the dancers, the make up, the withches, the festivities, the party, the lips, the fun, the swans, the angel wings, the colours, EVERYTHING!!! And I loved the pictures of ((((you and Mr S.))))
Thank you so much for sharing them and for directing me to them.

Beautiful and very Brazilian headdress. Nothing wrong with the fella underneath it, either. :)
And one more of this very handsome man!
Yesterday we attended the first gay carnival parade in France EVER, here in Nice.
The Sydney parade began as a protest against the police breakup of a demonstration the year before. It has progressed far beyond that now and is now a major carnival in the city calendar.
@Brian: I don't consider France as a particularly LGBT-tolerant country. And certainly not these days.I guess I just think that when I was young and same-sex was illegal in Australia, it had been legal in France for many years. And France now has same sex marriage. We have it here in NZ but not Australia. I was surprised at the opposition to it in France, hardly any in NZ.

And I have only seen one Mardi Gras gay parade in my life - in Key West, in 1999.
It was fabulous.
Great series of pics, Ingster!
This one made me laugh.
Parade is going on, but this queen has had it!
Oh, the LeatherBears.
I went to Rio Carnival once - in 78, I believe. Made memorable with a hand-in-hand walk back to the hotel along Copa or somewhere. Would that have been Mardi Gras?

Le roi s'amuse.
Mais naturellement!
I don't see any live musicians or marching bands, is this not a tradition? Was there recorded music playing?
And Mama BuKa on the same float; this is the same effigy as before?
At first I thought it was Spock!
Not the Joker, but Gene Simmons, a member of the rock group KISS.

For all non-Scandinavians: Tivoli is a very old amusement park, right smack in the center of Copenhagen. It may be the world's oldest, I'm not sure.
The Tivoli Garden was created in the 1840's, and is only the second oldest in the world. Another one called Bakken, situated North of Copenhagen is the oldest. (you have to go, Sonja, when you are able to).
What?? :D

Nena, I'm with you!
Poor Chuck and Nena...
;D
With pouring rain on Wednesday, I decided to go by bus to one of King Ludwigs castles, Linderhof. I had visited it in the 1970s. I got drenched just waiting in the queue to enter and as I left, not spending much time in the gardens, it began to snow although it did not settle in the valley. I think the mountains would have been beautiful if I could have seen through the clouds. I had to change buses in a favourite town of mine, Oberammergau, so cheered myself up with a big plate of strawberries, cream and ice-cream.
The next 2 days were just drizzle so on Thursday I walked in the hills just above the town but only up about 100 metres and travelled by bus to Munich on Friday. That evening I went to the impressive Herkuulesaal in the Munich Residenz where I heard the Bavarian Radio Orchestra. Sir John Gardiner was the conductor. I think I have seen him conduct Last Night of the Proms. I was in the very centre 2nd row but I actually prefer to be up high so I can look down and see all the orchestra.
Berlioz 'Harold en Italie' was first with Antoine Tamestit playing the viola solo. He was excellent and quite a showman. The 2nd half was Schubert Symphony Nr 8.
Saturday in Munich was overcast but did not rain until evening. I went to the Nymphenburg Palace. I do not remember going there on my previous visits to Munich. After going through the amazing Baroque and Rococo rooms in the main pavilion, I wandered in the 200 acre park somewhat reminiscent of Versailles, and visited the 4 garden pavilions, each in a different style. This photo shows the hall of mirrors in the Amalienburg Pavilion.

On Tuesday I was again on the train past Hallstatt to Bad Aussersee then a bus to AltAusseer which is on a smaller lake and I was able to walk around it in about 2 hours (6 and a half km). The photo shows one of the views. Unfortunately rather than wait and catch the bus back I decided to walk not realising it was another 5 km although much was along the river bank. The bus passed me at the last stop before the town so only about 5 minutes quicker.

I never got round to visiting the museums and castles in Bad Ischl. Left that to a rainy day which never came.
Yesterday I again packed up and caught the train to my last stop in Europe, Vienna. I have a lovely apartment and the owner has been most helpful. Opera is my main interest here and, after rushing to pick up the tickets before 5pm and then buy a few foodstuffs as today is a public holiday (Ascension day) and even supermarkets close on public holidays as well as Sundays, I went to the Volksoper (Folk Opera) which was my 4th visit there. I did not know much about the light opera Grafin (Countess) Marizka by Emmerich Kalman but the music, staging and dancing were delightful. Fortunately English is displayed above the stage although I found it a bit above my line of sight to see the action and I gather some contemporary jokes were added to the script but not in the English. Many of the songs are still running in my head especially ‘Komm Zigany (Gypsies)’ and ‘Komm mir nach Varazdin’ (I visited Varazdin in Croatia back in 2013.)
Today I am relaxing, as I have a much heavier opera (Wagner’s Siegfried) at the Staatsoper starting at 4pm this afternoon and finishing at 9pm
And this is taken from the Abbey looking at the surrounding countryside.

I spent 3 nights in Strasbourg. The first morning it rained but I visited the very ornate Gothic Cathedral famous for its Gothic architecture and carvings. It was the world’s tallest building for 250 years until 1874.

From that point this photo looks down over the Hallstattersee mentioned before. You can see there were clouds but it was possible to get a photo with some patience and jostling as only 2 people can stand on each of the 5 fingers at any one time.

Hello Sara! I love the shot of the hotel, and from the balcony!
:-* (a big huggy one)
Corpus Christi? I remember a parade all around the village we lived in back in 1967.
Beautiful pictures, y'all!
I had overlooked these threads!
ahhhh - that feels good
Fritz, I was trying to find out. It was Sunday 14th, but we had already celebrated Corpus Christi the previous Sunday (sang Byrd's Ave
Verum :)).
I'm not sure I'd like a whole winter there, but a summer would be nice!

great series so far, Debs! Liked the bridge that swung open to let the boats pass.

You're really saw some wonderful sights on the trip!
Our tour director was not sure how the custom originated of attaching locks to this fence.
(https://ultimatebrokebackforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi199.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa298%2Fdejavu91%2FMaine%2520%2520Seacoast%25202015%2FME2015-026%2520portland_zpss8lbk29b.jpg&hash=4004e5d3d1eed9735ee3fc77ef302722afe4ff70) (http://s199.photobucket.com/user/dejavu91/media/Maine%20%20Seacoast%202015/ME2015-026%20portland_zpss8lbk29b.jpg.html)
The tradition started I think in Paris, where two people in love would seal the lock on a fence and throw the key in the water, to show that the love bond would never be broken.
But the city of Paris took a dim view of this practice, which was doing damage to the bridge due to the weight of the hundreds of locks, removed them and won't permit people to do it anymore.
Great pictures, Debbie, looks like a very enjoyable trip!
Thanks, Chuck! It was an interesting concept, that bridge.
Interesting photos. In 2010 I stayed with a friend in Maine in the town of Damariscotta. She drove me around Maine and one lighthouse we visited looks to be the Burnt Island lighthouse. I did not write down it's name
Yes it is a real problem in Paris - has moved to other bridges and very hard to stop and as Fritz says, it is damaging the bridges. They have had to remove 1 million locks weighing 45 tons

This type of bridge is commonly found down in LA, though we have lift bridges too.

Tuesday, Day 4, was the rainiest day of the whole trip. Fortunately our first stop was inside, at the Maine State Prison Store in Thomaston, ME.
Minimum security inmates are allowed to have tools for carving wood and making other crafts. Some also work at the store, where they are supervised by a correctional officer. The wood objects are made of cedar, and range in size from tiny sailboats up to medium size tables and cedar chests. I didn't want to buy anything large to carry on the bus, but I did buy a carved lighthouse tower (painted white, with painted windows, and with a carved balcony which was painted black). I also bought a small carved sailboat, which was polished rather than painted so that the grain of the cedar wood shows. They had some much more detailed larger boats, which I admired but knew better than to think of buying. Prices were quite reasonable.
yay potato salad! it all sounds fun.
so glad you got to visit camden ME.
that was my first boyfriend's home town.
old mainers have a unique way of speaking.
BF used to say "nayoh" and "some ol wicked" :D
Huge bowls of potato salad, Jimmy! For side dishes? And we didn't know that the sandwiches came with potato chips anyway. :One of my pet peeves with dining in the USA is they serve potato chips with everything and I do not eat potato chips as I try to avoid too much salt.

So the Boothbay Harbor Inn advertised its sunset views, and we got these fearsome-looking clouds right before sunset Monday night.

Our harbor cruise started a little later on Monday morning, shortly after the bus returned from Ocean Point.
I'm on the boat here, wearing one of the T-shirts bought the day over a regular long-sleeve T-shirt, in case of cool breezes on the water.

Fantastic series, Deb!
I'll comment later on many individual pics here.
:)
Sue will be thrilled - she MUST get back here and see these Maine pics!
:)
One of the many stops/places in Maine where Sue took us to.
We loved Acadia!
wonderful set of additions, Debs. Loved the fireplace one, made me think of the coming winter. ;)
Thanks, Ingy.
Yes, I really hope she does get to see them. It's been too long since I've heard from her.
Ah, I'm glad to know you got to see Acadia. I had forgotten that you had been there.
In the summer of 2010.

Love the pattern of the lines!
(the centerpiece isn't bad either ;))
The contrast!
I can see why!
Wonderful pictures, Ingy!
The Roman and crusader ruins look like the ones I've seen in various places around Israel. No wonder, they are of course from the same periods.
Oh I LOVE this!! All the pictures are so fascinating, Ingy!!
You and Mr. S look very rested and happy!!
Great shot of the sun behind the towers. Really gives it a unique quality.
Beautiful blue sky!!

All very interesting pics, Ingy. Looking forward to more.

I like this one, Ing.
And this one, which is a great use of background around a very handsome fellow. :)
This one is just amazing. :)
This one intrigues me. I wonder about the sound of the instrument and whether the gentleman sings as well as plays.
And this one is lovely.
We've made the decision already - it's only a matter of time.

You have captured some wonderful dramatic shots of these columns.
They look like stars in the sky.
Holy Cow!
An amazing place.
fantastic shots, Ing! Too many for me to pick a favorite.
A set of bagpipes!
Oh, thanks, Fritz! They look different when they're lying flat like that, rather than being played.
I guess the plaid should have been a give-away.
Such a handsome couple!
Very nice composition.
Such a strange juxtaposition. Great photo.
This one is very atmospheric.
Great pictures, Ingeliskowitz! :) It was hard to pick favorites.
wonderful! jordan looks so cool!
well, hot and cool, lol. interesting shots!
I love this especially, but they're all great. Thanks Ing!
On a negative note, they brought home to me the terrible things that are happening in Palmyra, a comparable ancient city in the next door country, Syria. :(
Merci for all the nice moments.
I'll add the pics from day III asap.
Come follow me behind my tent, stranger, and I'll give you one! >:D
haha, i think i've been tagined! :D
And was it good?
You telltale you!
But why anyway? I simply replied quite politely in order to fulfil Jimmy's culinary request.
haha, i think i've been tagined! :D
'Culinary request', that must be a new word for it! ::)

Now I am in the apartment in Vienna, I can post some pics. As I am going to see Lohengrin tonight, I took it fairly easy today and visited the Hundertwasser House. The architect Hundertwasser was born in Austria but is buried in NZ and there is a public toilet in his style in the town of Kawakawa. He objected to modern straight lines in buildings.

Have you been floating?
Yay!!
And look at that sky.
(Even fewer tourists compared to when we visited. People are definitely scared away from these countries...)
And... DID you try?
;D
Nope! Didn't want to buy a bathing suit and towels and all that! Nothing just for rent. But sticking my hand into that water was....interesting.
Everybody was saying that. Except for Jerusalem itself, we didn't experience very much in the way of crowds.
No way! But I really liked the sign!
Danke Ingleinchen!

Finally I reached Almaueralm where many people were sitting eat and drinking beer. I think they had just walked up from this Luxury Health lodge. The coffee was expensive considering it was just brewed coffee and I am glad I did not have a beer as the track got steep and slippery just beyond.
I kept going and had my pre-packed roll and banana and water sitting with this view not far from the lodge.

Our Sue might be thrilled by many of your Maine pics - for obvious reasons.

Impressive series, Deb. Liked it a lot.
My favourite: the pics from the wooden bridge.
I'll send Sue a link through Facebook when I get home tonight. :) Perhaps she'll stop by to check them out.

We stopped in the very small town of Bath, VT, partly so that people could get a snack to eat. The main attraction in town was the covered bridge, which has a similarly very small waterfall off to one side.

I was thinking the same thing!
I wonder about the purpose of these covered bridges...?
Did you try the underground railway up the mountain?
Where you able to go inside some of these "not-buildings"?
Fraid not, we just went up in the bus. Didn't know of any other means of transportation.
Interesting train, Sonja, with those steps on platforms. And steps inside the cars! Hope no one gets dizzy. We have a similar train in our capital city, Wellington except only once carriage and only a little bit in a tunnel.
Wasn't aware of this one at all. Thanks!
We never quite entered the city limits of Haifa, but rather got off Hwy 2 onto Hwy 70 & up 672 to Daliyat el-Carmel to get to the top. The more direct road was probably a bit too winding for the bus.
It looks quite attractive!
I need to get back with more control over where to go.
It was amazing to see how precise all the building was. This is looking through into 4 different rooms.

Such a beautiful place, thanks Linda!
Way back on Easter weekend of 1971 one of my fellow students at the Defense Language Institute insisted that we go to Chaco Canyon on our way back from Mesa Verde, and I'm glad he did. It was a unique experience, and I managed to get back again in the early 2000's. Hope to return again someday.
Fabulous place Linda. Lucky you. :)
I agree, Nancy. The shot looking into 4 rooms was very interesting.

I remember this fountain so very well.
Our religious right would say they were appalled. And would not say that they were envious.
Well, it's how it was described in our guide  That not only the wives and concubines lived there, also the children and their maids and servants. Pretty crowded.
Very interesting pics, Ingy, especially the chessboard ones.
Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful place, thanks!
We'll show you when you're here. ;)
