Title: Dreams: The meaning behind them
Post by: mcnell1120 on January 11, 2007, 07:52:43 AM
I have often wondered what lays behind a dream. I understand we all need to dream in order for our brains to rejuvenate and hold information from the days or weeks that have passed. But have you ever woken up and said..."WTF?"

So here is a thread to just try to figure them out....are some of them premonitions?....who's to know!!

Okay.....I have always had funky dream here and there and even one's I couldn't remember...but lately,I have been having them and can remember them in great detail.

Lordy...I have even had dreams about you Forum members. Some I can't repeat   :o 8) I'll have to kill ya if I told ya.....bwahahah

I know certain things mean something in real life..I'll give you an example of one I had a couple of weeks ago.

There was a boy standing near a window, all of a sudden he starts screaming and runs away. I can see myself walking towards this window and I then look behind the curtain. There were tons of swarming bees. All of a sudden I'm a bee flying around. I look up to see a wooden bird house...as I land on the top railing I see 2 or 3 red berries, frozen. The berries then fall down and rolls inside the little house. I fly in and the berries are melting and there's this glowing light. As I get closer to this glow it's the baby Jesus........ and then I wake up!!  so I said to myself...WTF?....lol

I have read that the meaning behind bees is , I will have many pleasant and profitable business deals. Much happiness through children.
Hmmmmmmmm....I can see the happiness with children...but work issues?....riiiiiiiiiiight

So there it is...that's just one of them...lordy ;D ;D ::) ::) ::)

Nells:

WTF, indeed.  Typical of these kinds of dreams to be so random and jumbled up.  I hate them, cause you're left with -- what the hell was that.

I've never really looked very close at dreams, but will certainly start now.

I've only had one dream from someone here and that was conny just a few days ago.  I had been to Linda's home, as I had reported this past weekend, and the backyard looked so lonely.  I had mentioned that it hit me like a ton of bricks as I stood there.  Trying to imagine where everything and everyone was, especially those big white coolers.  Conny and Jari had commented on the difficulty of the distances that separate us all, and Linda, poor Linda, knew exactly what I meant.  After all, she has to see it daily.

Well, my dream was sort of  the same but everyone was there.  I was at the top of the steps, just like this past weekend, looking out towards the back fence.  Everything and everyone was there, but all was standing still, no one was moving or any sounds or voices.  All of a sudden, I see conny walking straight towards me from under the back tent, smiling she keeps saying “Look, we’re all here again, isn’t that great.”  I never said a word, because I could not open my mouth to speak.  I just kept looking at her wondering why I could see her moving and hear her speak, while everyone else was frozen.

Yep, the damn white coolers were all there.

WTF, indeed.

Oh wow Gerry...I had heard about the first part of you feeling very melancholy about that but never heard about you dreaming....sooooooo cool...maybe subconsciously you were feeling very content with the fact that you still chat with us and can visit that backyard ....the feeling of completeness or maybe yearning to have us all together again...hmmmmmmm

I also think, perhaps more on the pessimistic side, that the weekend will never be reproduced again.  Why should I expect anything different from any other wonderful event in my life?

. . . and I don't tend to be a pessimistic person.  ;D

wow you make me cry cause of this  :'(
tears of loneliness that keeps falling over me from time to time, and sometimes it hurts me so much i don`t know if i can stand it anymore,i told linda a few days ago and she felt exactly the same. that was about one or two days after your visit with her. i felt so sad,i just couldn`t jump in  plane and go over there, sit on that porch and give eachother some comfort.
but i can also imagening myself walking up there like you described gerry, and my new thoughts lately are: Don`t cry because it`s over,Laugh because it happened!!

one of my dreams that comes back to me every once in a while is that i am locked in a room or a building, all the time fighting to get out,but then finally out and free i wanna go back in cause it`s making me scared to be outside too! although i didn`t wanted to be locked up,it kinda was comforting as well.

i know this can be related to how i stand in life, when my walls were/are up and when i hide from the world and when i`m hurt.i hide back in my shelv where nothing can get to me,but another part of me,wants to get out i guess.
(am working on that with hypno therapy right now, breaking trough a patern thats already there my whole life and won`t let me have a normal relationship!)

Conny:

Like I said, eventhough this has been so special for us, we shouldn't expect to be any different than any other landmark event in our lives.

Like you said, cry because it happened.  Don't think I haven't thought about planning a trip to ya'lls territory.  I'd say about a 2 week tour and hit all the "best" spots.   Where each of you live.   ;)

Or we could have a reunion, centralized somewhere over there.  You never know...

i agree that this was a once in a life time experience, even if we have a reunion,it would be different.everything was right there and then at that place at that time, with all of us there  :) just magic  ;)

Yes,hon,I agree this has a lot to do with your situation....because to dream of a locked place, not being able to get out means "Confusion and Doubt"

((hugs))  you will get out of this...soon

I can't recall ever having had a particular dream more than once. And I have dreamt about a Forum member, Chuck! (CellarDweller) I think I told him about it, but now I can't remember the content of the dream! It was quite innocent, that's all I can remember!

Nell and Fritz:

Dreams are just dreams, man.    Go for it and really dream.  It does belittle one's partner.

Has anyone ever woke up blushing and feeling wierd after have an erotic dream with someone you would never do it with, but maybe secretly thought they were cute or hot or whatever.

I know that you can train your mind to remember your dreams with very simple exercises - BUT can you train your brain to not remember your dreams?

Carol always dreams very vividly and almost always wakes up exhausted when she has active dream cycles...

I would love it if there was a way she could "not remember" her dreams, so she'd feel more rested.

To sleep,.... perchance to dream  :-\

I frequently dream an remember things (they are always in technicolour - some people dream only in black and white did you know that), often erotic often when I'm wound up about something I see the situation in a dream repeating and repeating sometimes with slightly differing endings.  Some are easily explained and some not, some are so vivid the are almost real when I wake up.  Perhaps I should take more water with it  ;)

It is said that to dream is to awaken our reasonable soul. It thinks, judges, and reasons. It is a mind.

They represent an unconscious wish that is socially unacceptable or too frightneing or unpleasant to be allowed into our consciousness. By allowing it to be released into our unconscious minds,dreams....our anxieties and repression is relieved.....

They say if you don't dream...you may die or suffer physically......wow!!

So Gerry.....I had a dream a few weeks ago about our Brokeback buddies....left me with that same feeling as you had.

Some of it I already forgot, the small details anyway...but...

I was in an open field...wasn't Linda's back yard...I could see mountains and hills and green all around...there were hugh trees everywhere. I was walking around but couldn't see anyone but their voices I could hear...I recognized Conny's voice, Brad's,Jackie's,Terry's, yours...Fritzie and Chucky's and Jari's. But I couldn't see them....I decided to sit under a hugh tree and look towards the mountain in front of me...all of a sudden out comes Jari and sits next to me and then Brad and Jackie....I saw Fritzie and Terry walking towards us and we layed on the grass looking up to the sky...it was great. All of a sudden I was hearing Sal and Nick....they were yapping away in their cute accents and I wake up!!!!!!!!  whew...it was a great dream

I was sleepin in a bed and the door opens....from the door I see Terry's head peeking in telling me it's time to get up....lol....I was mad that I had to get up and flipped him off...hahahahah...next thing I know,I'm walking towards the bathroom past the kitchen and Brad and Steve were there. Steve was sitting down reading the newspaper and Brad was over the stove cooking breakfast. Jackie and Jari were in the balcony outside smoking. When I got out of the bathroom the whole gang was now in the kitchen laughing at me . I grabbed my cigarettes from the kitchen table and Brad walks over to me and yanks them out of my hands and tells me I ain't smoking and to get my ass in that chair and have some breakfast.....bwahahahahaha....Steve rolls his eyes at me and tells me I'd better listen....whew!!!!..........I wake up...........HOW COOL IS THAT?

Ok, for the past two nights, I've had some strange  dreams.....

Dream #1.

I was on my way to a night class.  I don't know for what.  Walking with me was a girl I knew from elementary school named Susan.  We were both adults.  We had to do a lot of "physical" things to get to class.  Cross a river, and such.  I have no idea why we were going to this school, or why it was so hard to get to.

When we got there, the classroom was full of all the kids I went to school with as adults, and the teacher was a woman named Kristen who I work with currently.  I told her that I had a story to tell her, and she replied that she loved my stories, please tell it.  This caused the people around me to start accusing me under their breath to be a "brown noser" and "ass kisser" and how much they didn't like me.

after that, the dean came in to tell me that if I wasn't able to pass my last test, I would not pass the course.  I opened my briefcase to find it was full of coloring books, but somehow, they helped me pass.

Dream #2.  (Last night)

I went to visit my parents.  They had moved to a new house.  When I got there, they told me that although they were living together, they had seperated.  They were only living together to save money.

So there was dad in his own bed, and mom, sharing a bed with her new boyfriend, who was younger than my youngest brother.

Ok, for the past two nights, I've had some strange  dreams.....

Dream #1.

I was on my way to a night class.  I                          edit                             my stories, please tell it.

 ???  ???  ???  ???

Yeah, I wonder what it means?   mmmm.  very perplexing.

 ??? ??? ??? ???

Jesus, this was a tough one.....Since you were walking at night, this means some misfortune to come...trying to get back on your feet is going to be a little tough for you, that's why you had to cross rivers, bridges or what not...but you're going to get past all this in between spiteful actions done to you by people...that explains all the kids as adults in the classroom...don't listen to these people who try to stear you wrong or negatively...in the end you will have honors and riches...may not be so much as in money form but by seeing books, coloring books and what not means you'll succeed in the end ,Chucky!!

YEAHHHH!!!!!

To visit parents means to expect pleasant changes in your life.....a new house indicates a change in residence and happy business deals...because you saw your parents split up can mean that you will no longer be living with them, they may have mixed feelings about you going.....

Good luck sweets!!

Neel:  Nells:

I had a dream acouple of night ago and I can't get it out of my mind.   It was raining and I couldn't find my umbrella.  I was walking down the sidewalk trying to get out of the rain and I was carrying this cat.  As I was walking I hadn't noticed the ladder I had just gone under which was proped against the bulding.  As I hugged the brick wall I was going by a window and saw my open umbrella inside on the floor.

Oh boy.......Being in rain, assuming it was clear water and not dark and cloudy out...this means that you will be blessed with pleasures and energetic vitality,as well as prosperity...BUT...because you have a cat in your arms...it's an omen of bad luck, enemies at hand....being under an umbrella is also an omen..means unhappiness and lots of troubles and worries....so you're lucky there because you saw the umbrella else where,it means that all of the unhappiness, troubles , and enemies will be rid of...you will overcome these bad things that may happen in your life...obstacles,we call them.........

My dream last night:

It was like the 1950's (I was born in 1956) and I was in the town I grew in.  I was trying to go home and went to the regular train station and got on one of the cars heading out.  At the next small town I was told that I was going the wrong direction, so I got off, walked about 1/4 of a block to the train platform going the other direction.  We were there for about 7 hours waiting for the train to leave the station.  I don't know what the delay was, but there were about 10 other people in the dream waiting with me.  The dream was in Black and White and had the feel that it was during a war-period.  Piles of rubble here and their and rising smoke from some buildings.

This whole time I had the anxiety of not being able to get home, no matter what.
This was a real dream Nells.

LOL...real dream huh...okay,here goes...

Dreaming of trains means that you will soon make a journey. Because you were confused or took the wrong train, and you were waiting for a long period...along with the smoke you saw, indicates many doubts and fears in your life. BUT, only if you let them cloud your life. Also, beware of flattery and deceitful people.......hmmmm... ;)

Does that mean anything to anyone?  Can someone help clarify what the significance of that could be?  Nellie?  Fritz?

Had a strange one last night, but I don't remember much of it.

What I do remember.....odd.

I was sitting with some strange women.  They were commenting on my nails, and wanted to give me a manicure.  One grabbed my hand, and took an emmery board, and held it at the base of my nail, length wise.

Then she pushed it up my finger, to the knuckle, ripping up the skin.  I was shocked as hell in the dream, and holding my finger and shouting.

this may have been my first forum member dream... but i'm not sure --- probably not now that i think of it. but it from last night:

i'm at this bowling alley, crowded with people and there is a sort of competition going on, but all the focus is on this guy (he sorta looked like baycityjohn now that i think of it) and he's rolling strike after strike, knocking all the pins down, and on his last throw he drops the ball -- it goes sideways and ends up a gutter ball, but in the gutter the NEXT lane over, and for some reason since it wasn't in his lane, they let him go again.. and when he does, we find out why the previous throw went awry: because he was trying to throw two balls at the same time.

this time it works, he throws one down the correct lane, but the other is thrown behind his back and it goes on this sort of wacky track, like dominoes or some set up trail, it rolls behind him and down some stairs, then it rolls into a box and then comes out the other end, then it rolls across a table and drops onto the floor (people scattering to get out of the way) and under and between the legs of chairs... then my focus changes to follow the other ball that was thrown down the lane -- and it knocks all the pins down! people cheer... then focus goes back to the other ball, and it's still on its journey, now rolling down the diner portion of the bowling alley, between the legs of partrons who are jumping up and out of the way,,,, and then the ball hits a wall, bounces back and rolls the other way toward the back exit, then goes down more stairs (thump thump thump) and toward a door, which somebody opens to allow the ball to go through...

then outside on a concrete stairway it rolls down and it's now out on this lawn, but suddenly i see, on the grass, a giant pink pig and a big stag (male deer with horns, like a 16pt buck) on their hind legs -- doing a sort of sumo-wrestling hold, arms (er,, upper limbs) locked together. but between them is a little boy about five and i'm worried that he will get crushed, but it seems that the stag and the pig know that he's there. he's safe, is smiling anyway, and moving with the deer and pig as they move across the grass, like he's taking part in a dance rather than a wrestling match...

there's all kinds of people from the bowling alley outside watching this, i guess they came out to see where the bowling ball went (btw it's sunny and the lawn is green), and we all start to go back inside and then melissasjack suddenly appears at the top of the stairs. she asks me to hand her her stuff she left on the lower steps. there is a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and all these keychains -- which i think in the dream that she must be making for the bay city bbm showing (or something) -- and i notice they are silver key rings with brown/tan/gold colored leather strands attached. it looks like she's braiding them.

some are completed, and some are just strands waiting to be braided. then i noticed that they're not braided in that four-square pattern (like kids do in the cub/girl scouts with that vinyl "gimp" rope), but it's macramé...

and there was a bit more but i forgot... but the main thing is the deer and the pig dancing (!) and the domino-like effect of that bowling ball on its supposedly pre-planned course (i remember thinking *during the dream* that it had to do with ones course in life..  the obstacles that can be overcome, walls that can stop it, doors that are opened... the smooth rides, the bumps in the road)...  and then melissa, suddenly appearing with her smile and voice.

Jesus Christ !!  Is this an acid flashback?....bwahahahhahah....okay...give me a few minutes here....hmmmmmmmmmm

To find yourself bowling or in a bowling alley...you will realize your fondest wishes.  Seeing the bowling balls indicates that you have many good friends who appreciate and respect you. This will allow you to have many good times  in the future...BUT...the fact that the ball was going down the stairs indicates that you will also be an object of envy and hatred.

Once you see the pig and deer....it shows that you will overcome this and have many successes in business of some sort and your GOOD friends will help you...

Seeing keys tells you that unexpected changes in your life will take place. You will have a happy domestic life in the long run....

Wow....that was a great dream man and fun to interpret....good luck and watch out for those backstabbing friends!!

wow! thanks doc! where's your tip cup?  (i picture peanuts' "lucy" and her psychiatrist table!)

interesting about the keys,,, but the the keychains were empty, no keys~!  and oooohh, uh-oh, there were two sets of stairs!! but one was carpeted, i think. ;)

i also have recurring dreams with fish, pretty fish with patterns, like koi, but with blues and greens and other colors, that i'm viewing as they swim in a pool or pond. then they start to swim up into the air and all around me. very pleasant, actually.

Crazy ass dreams again this morning....

Was roaming around...someone was with me,couldn't tell you who it was though....we were walking around in what looked like a cemetary...all of a sudden it got dark out and we needed to take cover. We saw this underground looking grate/hole....we slid down in it but was able to see thru the bars and lock it. Here we are peeking thru the bars and all of a sudden....there's dead people walking around like the night of the living dead...oh God!!  it was too freaky.....then I woke up

so I looked it up and it means that someone will recover from a desperate illness....it also means that I am being misled by deceitful people and must try to exert a greater control over my own life.

Had a dream that my family and I were in some house on vacation.

Tsunami hit, washing us all out onto the beach together, however, the water was not full of junk, or muddy.  It was crystal clear.

the water subsided, and everyone (many strange people around) and we all ended up on the beach.

I ran into my friend, and 3 of her sisters, and they were telling me they had lost a family member in the waters, and I hugged them all.  That's when I woke up.

I found something interesting on a website that I use.  I get all household pillows and beddings thru an online merchant and found the following "Did you Know?"  Thought I'd post it here.

Did You Know?
The average person has over 1400 dreams in just one year? Given that there are 365 nights in a year, that's three to four dreams every single night! So, if we're really dreaming so much, why can't we remember?  There are several theories, but most researchers speculate that it has much to do with the drastic decrease in our level of awareness, keeping us from committing too much to memory. To maximize your dream-retention abilities, try to recall your dreams as soon as you wake up but before you get out of bed and start moving around.

Foods to Help You Snooze

Do you sleep as good as you should? If not, your diet might be the culprit. Studies show that foods have a direct affect on how well we rest, by delivering a dose of calming amino acids to lull us to sleep or an equally perky dose to wake us up.

Protein-rich foods contain two important amino acids - tryptophan, which relaxes the brain and tyrosine, which does just the opposite and livens things up. So, how do we get the benefit of one amino acid over the other? The answer is in the side dishes.  Carbohydrates encourage the production of insulin, a natural tyrosine-blocker. Eat meals that have a high carb content and just a small amount of protein, and you'll find yourself getting sleepy soon after you eat. Reduce your carbs and increase your protein intake and the tyrosine takes over, keeping you alert and awake much longer.

So, which foods do what?

Look to foods such as seafood, beef, beans, poultry and anything in the dairy department for a big boost of tryptophan. Add extras like pasta, breads and nuts and you've got yourself a sleep-inducing meal.  Other great "sleepy" foods include:

Chamomile Tea - People have turned to hot tea as a natural relaxant for centuries and chamomile is one of the best. It's easy on the stomach and has a mild relaxing effect on the mind.

Bananas - That's right, bananas! Bananas contain all sorts of wonderful sedating extras such as melatonin, magnesium and serotonin. Eat a banana before bed and you'll be sleeping like a baby.

Oatmeal - Oatmeal is warm and soothing anyway, but the melatonin it contains certainly doesn't hurt. Try eating a small bowl about an hour before bed and then get ready to rest easy.

Warm Milk - Your grandmother was right when she gave you warm milk before bed. Milk contains a little tryptophan, our favorite natural sedative and the added calcium is always a welcomed bonus.

OK Nells...I've been meaning to add this for a week or so.  And it's going to sound FU**ED up, but aren't most dreams?  I am telling you the absolute truth...I know I can give you a hard time and all, so want you to know I'm not kidding here.

So about 10 days ago I start having dreams about my car...yes, my car.  I've never dream't about my car.  First dream - I stopped some place to buy something and when I came out of whereever it was...my car was gone.  I don't know if someone stole it or not, but it was gone.  I looked around for a bit and ended up calling somebody, then weird things happened...and last I remember.

Next night(of dreaming)..I'm going to someone's place in town, stop outside a pizza joint, come out & get in car and start to drive away.  Well right in front of me is a HUGE ass canyon.....yeah like the Grand Canyon.  Well - I didn't see it in time and drive into the damn thing like Thelma and Louise.  However...I was much more clever in my dream.  As I am free fallin - I jump out of my car and catch it.  Pretty neat eh?  Well it gets better.  After I catch my car, I launch it upwards and it lands safely back up on the edge of the canyon.  Naturally of course, the next thing I did was to reach up and grab the side of the ledge to keep from falling to the bottom of the canyon.  I then continued to swing one leg up over the side and pull myself to safety.  Phew!...I'm pretty sure I was tired but proud of myself.  End of dream

Less then a week later....I'm once again driving down a cozy little street, going about 10 MPH.  My car breaks down (I think it overheated).  I pull it right over into someone's door yard - almost right up on the front porch.  No one comes out to help me("Fuck - em..I worked at a garage for 13 years, I can handle this" I say.  I say this in my dream and it's true in real life)  end of dream.  That was a night or two ago.

I have NEVER dreamed about my vehicles before.  I keep thinking my car is going to break down or I'm going to get in a wreck.  lol  I have had very eery premonitions before that have come true, so these thing freak me out sometimes.

Have fun with that one. ;)

Well, looks to me that this dream had a lot to do with the last dream you had. It's saying the same things about being careful of friends, also foretells seperation between friends.

Clear water indicates prosperity and happiness to come. You have to be strong and you will over come.

Okay Mitchell...lol....here goes...and it wasn't too bad of a dream(s)

To drive a car in a dream is a good thing,doll....this means that you're in control of your own life.

Canyons, cliffs, mountains means misunderstandings and a little bad luck along the way. By falling off the canyon tells you that you are going to have disappointments but because you climbed back up means you're going to rise to wealth and distinctions;individuality...you're going to re-discover yourself.

A porch or balcony in a dream could mean a separation among lovers,so watch out there and also some bad news resulting in this...the good news in all this which is rather interesting to me because it was your last dream...is that you were dreaming of a garage, working in one....this is a sign to you that your personal affairs will improve in the near future. You're going to work thru all this.

Yeahhhhh!!  Lmao

So there you go...now....put the check in the mail please!!  lol

Nellie  ;)

This is such a crazy ass dream I had this early morning....

MelissasJack and I were hanging out in some park...sort of near the basketball court, there were a bunch of guys hanging out and we were just walking....all of a sudden from no where, she shows me this really cool looking hat. Had this shiny stuff on it and told me to wear it. When I put it on my head,it had the Puerto Rican flag on it....bwahahha

So we kept walking and that was it...I woke up...how bazaar is that?

I'm surprised to find myself here because I rarely remember my dreams, but I did last night, or actually early morning around 4:30.  I know the time because a while before I got up to take a migraine pill (don't know if that figures into it)

Ok, here it is.  I was in a house and I was barracaded in because wild animals were trying to get in for some reason unknown.  A wolf actually made it it, so I wrestled it to the ground and put my hands around its throat (we used to play a game with my old dog where I did this and he made really funny noises) and we started fighting.  I knew he was going to try to kill me, so as we wrestled I moved towards the basement door with my hands still around his neck.  we got to the door and I pushed him down the stairs and then locked the basement door.

Just then, my husbands alarm went off, so the connection was lost and I didnt finish it.  I still had a feeling of danger though.

Any thoughts?  I'm so not a dream person.  I don't really understand them.  I can say I did notice I dream in color though.

Thanks Chuck for directing me here. Hope there still is some interest in this thread.

Now and then my dreams are more important to me, in periods I remember my dreams more. Sometimes it seems to me that those dreams are like warnings from my subconscious self, something I need to pay attention to, things that my conscious self need to understand and maybe do something about, if that makes sense.

I have read some books on understanding and interpretation of dreams. But I'm not so sure there are rights and wrongs in understanding themes in dreams. I think that themes from a dream can mean different things on different levels. The most important thing, I think, is to express it, tell someone maybe or write it down, at least when the dreaming is intense.

For some time now I dream a lot. And maybe I can come here to talk about it...

Ok, nobody saw my post here from yesterday. I still want to try...

During times of necessary changes in my life I used to dream about wild, dangerous animals or terrorists invading my house. Scary dreams. I think they were warning signals telling me that something was wrong (once it was right before I revealed a betrayal). Years later I attended some lectures about the theory's of C. G. Jung and one theme was of course dreams. I made then the connection between the changes in my life and these dreams. The beasts or monsters could be groups of armed terrorists or animals, once it was a huge lion.

This was many years ago. Now the theme seems to be back but the monsters has changed....

To be continued - maybe...

Holy cow!!  you guys opened the thread again....yeahhhh...lol

Mia.....I know a little about dreams and you are soooo right when you say that it is your subconscious self...it's trying to talk to you and if you pay attention and educate yourself...it can actually help you in your life...lots of it may mean the opposite of what it really is....I've heard of dreaming about death may mean a birth...and so on...

Dangerous animals can mean that there's something out there that you are afraid of and if it's chasing you or trying to hurt you, you need to focus on what your obstacles in your daily life are...work,home,career,whatever it is... and try to pinpoint what's really bothering you....are you happy at work?...do you feel like you're not getting anywhere?

Also, watch out for friends in your life....are they really TRUE friends?.....

All these monstser things and wild animals or terrorists, all mean that there is some "worry" in play

I think so too. The dream I had twenty years ago about a huge lion jumping into my house, through a glass-door with a roar was terrifying. I still remember it. Maybe because I had a therapist then and told her about it. I dreamt it only days before I revealed a betrayal from someone I thought was my best friend.

Understanding and recognizing this monster theme in dreams have helped me a few times after that. It's like my subconscious self tells me to stay alert, to take a closer look at things going on around me.

Now the theme seems to be back in my dreams. But in a new way. And – this also happened a few times before in my life – in one dream I had the other night it's more than themes, it's the story I'm dreaming, the story itself - that ‘talks’ to me.

I wonder if that makes sense to anyone....

When I was around 10 or 11, I used to dream about the Lone Ranger. Don't think I was supposed to be Tonto, but I had the most vivid dreams about riding on his horse with him. I was prepubescent then, so don't think the dreams were sexual in nature, but who knows.

In my Giant Dictionary of Dreams it says:
If you dream of seeing or riding a white horse, the indications are favorable for prosperity and pleasurable commingling with congenial friends and fair women.

Also:
To dream of horses, you will amass wealth and enjoy life to its fullest extent.

I am neither prosperous or wealthy, so I'm not sure I believe the Giant Dictionary of Dreams very much, however these dreams occurred when I was a child, so perhaps I should try dreaming about it again, but this time swap the Lone Ranger with Jack!

Some time ago I dreamt this story. As I said before, it's the whole story that ‘talks’ to me here... And I'm serious about this. It probably says more about me than anything I've told before on the forum...

In this dream I was in the company of a very dangerous mass murderer. We walked in the city I used to live. The streets and the shops we visited was really busy. Cars and buses and people and sounds everywere. For some reason the murderer was in total control over me, I had to protect him and stay with him as he was looking for the next victim. I was scared but not so much that he would hurt me as long as I didn't try to stop or reveal him. I was scared for every person we met. Had to make him leave places and go other directions all the time to save my hairdresser, my mother-in-law and other persons we met. It was important to act as if everything was normal and talk about other things with the people we met. People I knew wanted me to stay and talk and I couldn't explain why I had to hurry away from them.

Finally we came to a hospital for old people and in one of the rooms the murderer found his victim. He was sure he could commit the murder without getting caught. His murdering involved a lot of blood and cleaning up afterwards. I had no choice but to leave him there without being able to help the victim. It was terrible but I had to leave the room to save myself. I was so threatened by his anger, a very calm and dangerous anger. I couldn't stop it, call for help, contact the police or anything.

Downstairs the nurse (an older woman) who guarded and was in charge of the place asked for my help to turn on the surveillance cameras as she was going to leave the entrance. Then I knew the mass murderer would loose his control over me because he would be recognized and get caught. I was scared but helped her and arranged the cameras so he surely would be revealed as he left the building.

I ran away as fast as I could. When I found a place to hide – were I would be safe – huge doors were automatically locked behind me. I found myself trapped and locked inside a big outdoor room. I knew I would be safe from the murderer in this room. This was better than being in the company of the murderer but it wasn't a good hiding place. This was a trap. How could I find out if the murderer got caught? There were walls but no ceiling in this empty room. The sky above was clear and blue at the moment. Were would I find shelter if the weather got bad? How could I find a way out?

I woke up without finding out...

Wow, Mia!  What a dream!  I will think about this............

For the first time in ages there was a theme of hope in my dream. Night after night I have been dreaming about children dying, me being threatened, making plans to kill myself and so on.

This dream involved my work with cultural events.

I had to protect some important seeds for a while. I stored them in the soil on a graveyard between two graves. Just to keep them there before I found the place for the plants to grow...

No time to do so today, but I definitely plan to present and develop my "pee dream theory" here in the next days. Something for you all to look forward too...  :o  ::)  :D

Am serious about it, though!

I know that if you dream of sick children it means many worries to you,of dying it means bad luck to you and those you care about...ouch!

hope you don't dream any more of that!

Ok, how about this one?

Last night, I had a dream that I was watching a parade.  It wasn't the Thanksgiving parade, but they had those huge balloons in it.

Well, the people carrying them thought it would be funny to cause them to "fight"....and the balloons got into boxing/wrestling matches.  I distinctly remember Linus and Lucy from the Peanuts comic strip fighting each other.

lmao

The last thing I remember was Lucy being deflated on the ground.

I dreamed that my room was a mess, with an open food container in it.  (this would NEVER happen)  this caused the room to be infested with ants, flies, and for some odd reason, a small snake.

Well, last night, I had a dream that I was trying to help mom clean the kitchen.  Moved a small potted plant (in real life, there are none in the kitchen) and could see a large spider in it.  I tried to show mom, and she stuck her hand in the plant, and it jumped on her hand.  She screamed, and flung her hand out, and the spider landed on my back, and I yelled, and then woke up.

I'm afraid of spiders, don't like them, so that would be a scary dream for me.

Well let's see.

Last night I dreamed that I was in a large room full of rolled coins.  I was going to buy them to get a drawer ready to wait on customers as a teller.

Suddenly a man in a sweater showed up to tell me he was a member of the 80s rock group Survivor :D :D and that he was going to measure me for my tux, for my wedding.

:o :o

My bride was a woman :o :o who was a teller that I managed when I was a CSM for the bank I work for now.  Her wedding dress was a beige, hooded kinda thing, almost a cloak type of dress.

that's when I woke up.

Hmmmmm.  There's such a strange mix of elements in that dream.  Where did they all come from?

I like the rolled coins, they make me think of being in a room filled with gold bars, but I guess the coin rolls are familiar to you from your job.  Then there's the rock group Survivor, but they would make sense if you liked them.

The wedding part is where it really gets odd.  The woman-as-bride is obviously strange.  So is the idea that she was someone you used to manage.  The hooded cloak type of dress is very interesting.  It could suggest that there's something hidden about her identity -- maybe she's not really a bride, maybe she has another purpose.  But I have no idea what.

I get the impression this is a happy dream. (A wedding is a happy event, isn't it?) Maybe with a theme of personal development. Your dream makes me think of fairytales (I use to interpret fairytales as a project within my university studies) and the meaning of weddings/happily ever after as different parts of ones self connecting.

The wedding dress was interesting. Makes me think very much of a fairytale.

Sorry about my clumsy English!

Your English is fine, Mia.   :-*  I think you may be on the right track, about personal development.

Chuck, I had another thought about the so-called bride in your dream who was cloaked so her identity seemed a mystery.

Maybe she was Muse, and you were dreaming about becoming more wedded to your Muse -- your inspiration -- and doing more writing.

Perhaps the rolls of coins represent the success you are hoping to find in your writing.

And the man who came to fit you for a tux could be the serious part of yourself that tells you that you need to get serious about writing.  Maybe he's a bit of a taskmaster, wanting you to get on a schedule.

OK, I had the first rather odd dream in ages.

Chuck, you and I were on Mars! But the atmosphere was breathable, we were sitting in an outdoor cafe(!) and admiring all the red sand dunes from our table, on the outskirts of a small settlement. We were there with another Brokie, no one currently on the Forum but we both knew him, and he was asking us about times and places that we met other Brokies, the data of which he was writing down using a laptop.

Also, we were witnesses to an event, namely, someone had brought the Wright Brothers original Flyer from Earth, and had released it unmanned into the air, apparently expecting it to glide to the surface, but we could see that it crashed in the distance. We weren't particularly upset by this event.

As I said, this was about the strangest dream I've had in a long time!

Title: Re: Dreams: The meaning behind them
Post by: dejavu on February 08, 2008, 02:49:08 PM
Fritz:  Hmmmm.  Outdoor cafes like in NYC -- you were just talking about Greenwich Village recently, so those conversations could have given you an idea for the backdrop for this dream.  But Greenwich Village transported to Mars?

I sort of hate to even suggest this, but the fact that you were in a rather otherworldly environment makes me wonder if you were thinking about Jackie.  You do say "no one currently on the Forum but we both knew" that person.

You say the other Brokie was a man?  That could spoil the analogy, or maybe that's a detail that doesn't matter.  I can see Jackie's spirit still asking about about the times and places you met other Brokies.

And the laptop, and this person's way of writing down data, reminds me of the little black book Jackie kept information in about all the other Brokies.

I don't what to think, regarding the Wright Brothers original Flyer.  But if you weren't upset that it crashed, this might be because the emphasis in your dream was on the spiritual, rather than on the physical objects.

Or I may be way off base.  Maybe Chuck will have an idea.

Shit!!!  Fritzie...this is a strange one indeed...but it has a very simple meaning ,one that you have to be aware of and be careful...

Dreaming of Mars means that you may suffer much unhappiness through the cruelty of certain so-called friends. Also be aware of enemies ...seeing "red" means arguments...

I know it's just a dream, but just be careful with people....people even from this Forum especially...

Sorry Fritzie..

We were out visiting some Amish people and they wouldn't let us enter all the way in their complex or community. Before I knew it, my 9 yr old daughter was dressed in Amish clothing and chasing two boys!!  WTF?

It was crazy,I was shaking my head smiling as we were filming this and then I woke up.....hmmmmmm...wonder what all that means!

Any guesses?

Geeez, that sounds like a doozy there, Nellie.

Perhaps you are wishing for a simpler way of life, a more innocent way, which could be what the Amish represent.  Children are considered innocent, so that could be why you saw your daughtere in Amish clothing.

But there is a part of you that knows that life will not be that way, which is why you couldn't go all the way into the village.

Here's a thought, Nellie-often babies or children are our own inner child, either damaged or protected.

Maybe your core nature protests repression, ie, Amish, and you wish for freedom from constraints.

Just a light thought.  ;)

One of the most telling dreams I ever had, years ago, was standing looking up at an old family home, holding an infant-and an authority figure who had completely cowed me as a kid was in one of the windows, staring down at me.

I had finally gotten away....and I had taken my inner child intact, with me.

I cannot tell you how good I felt the morning after that dream!

I swear I have the weirdest dreams of anyone I know. Almost every night I have bizarre, vivid dreams.
One of my less bizarre but strange none the less, dreams was the other night. It's the first time i've ever dreamed about Ennis and Jack. It was very short but I dreamed the three of us lived in the home I grew up in and Ennis and I were having a fight, about what I have no idea. I was running outside away from him and Jack was running after us. I was running because I was scared Ennis was going to hit me.
I ended up playing ball with the guys in the neighborhood that I grew up with and Ennis and Jack stayed outside on lawn chairs watching. When it got dark, I went inside to take a shower and as I walked past them to go inside Ennis was glaring at me and he got up and followed me into the house. The end.
Now, even though that was all there was to the dream and there was nothing sexual in it at all; I had the feeling that the three of us were together.  Like we had a three way relationship going! LOL! Wouldn't that make an interesting slash story?!

Chuck, I don't know...sounds like you really have something against that house, doesn't it?   :D
As for the cheerleaders, they remind me of high school days.  Or of memories of high school days.  Maybe you were feeling a bit hemmed in by things that happened when you were younger?  Just a thought, of course.

Chuck, you're invading my dreams!  :D

This time, Earl and I were watching a Broadway play, the dream started just as the play was finished and we were leaving. You were in the play, a major character but not the star. No idea about the play itself. Anyway, it took us and inordinately long time to get out of the theater auditorium because of the crowds. I remember thinking, good thing no one was yelling "fire" because it would be really bad, we'd be trampled. But I didn't mind that it took so long to get out. In the theater lobby, there was a stairwell down, which is where you were, in your dressing room. But when we got there, someone said you had already left. We took this news without much ado either, because we knew we'd see you later on. That's where the dream ended.

Very interesting, Fritz.

Chuckie was a major character...I can see that.  Just like at a Brokie gathering.

You and Earl wanted to see him...I can see that.  You would want to.

He left before you could find him...sad.   :(

But you knew you'd see him later on...that seems like a fitting end to the dream.  You are Chuck's friends, so you know you'll see him sooner or later.  Maybe there was a get-together for the cast afterwards, and he had arranged for you to be invited.   :)

Oh, I had a real doozy of a dream last night, and remembered it after I started to wake up.  Unfortunately, I forgot about it and can't remember all the details now.   :D

But it was vivid, and felt like a nightmare.  The one thing that I do remember was that I was somewhere taking pictures from the ground, and suddenly there was a big fireball in the sky.  Then, at the front of the fireball, I could make out the nose of a jet airplane.  At that point, the jet was headed away from me.

Now a few more details are coming back.  The dream changed after that, and I was looking at this awful picture from a different angle.  I was still on the ground, but facing the front of the airplane.  I couldn't see the fireball any more (which was toward the tail of the airplane), but I could see the jet's front part swooping up and down and around in circles.  And then I made out some logo on the side of the plane, and it said the name of a TV network.

 ???

Beach
To see the beach in your dream, symbolizes the meeting between your two states of mind. The sand is symbolic of the rational and mental processes while the water signifies the irrational, unsteady, and emotional aspects of yourself. It is a place of transition between the physical/material and the spiritual.

To dream that you are on the beach and looking out toward the ocean, indicates unknown and major changes that are occurring in your life. Consider the state of the ocean, whether it is calm, pleasant, forbidding, etc.

To dream that you are looking toward the beach, suggests that you are returning to what is familiar to you. Alternatively, you may be adapting or accepting to the changes and circumstances in your life.

To dream that you are relaxing on a beach, signifies that the coming weeks will be calm and tranquil for you. Your stress will be alleviated and you will find peace of mind. However, to dream that you are working on the beach, signifies a business project that will consume most of your time.

Dog
To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts. Also consider common notions associated with the word dog, such as loyalty ("man's best friend") and to be "treated like a dog".

To see a happily barking dog in your dream, symbolizes pleasures and much social activity. If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of unnecessary barking at people and the situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions. To dream that a dog bites your on the leg, suggests that you have lost your ability to balance aspects of your life. You may be hesitant in approaching a new situation or have no desire to move forward with your goals.

CHUCKY....that is an awesome reading about my dreams....

I remember being happy and I was looking towards to ocean...the water was rather calm with a few waves...and the dogs were swimming happily back and forth ....I was by myself

so I guess I'll take this as a good thing...major changes huh...I always seek that in my life, especially these past 2 years..and the skill I have ignored and forgotten may be my sketching/drawing....I've been trying to get that together I guess...Paula gave me Jackie's drawing pencils and charcoal in a little tool box Jackie had...I keep looking at it and ignoring when I should start ......so cool Chucky....you really made me think

Thanks...

I have a recurring dream where I'm in a really big old house, lots of rooms.

This dream started after my mother died in 1980

She is in the dream, but it is after the funeral and it turns out they made a mistake, it wasn't my mother that died. So my mother is living in the house.

It's a 1 story house. I have to walk past dozens of empty rooms to get to my room which is in the basement.

I get to the room and then I wake up.

Please feel free to interpret cuz I don't know what the Frederick it means.

Well here's a real fucking doozy!   ::)

Last night I dreamed that I was back at my old job, as a cashier for the supermarket.  Two guys did their shopping, and left a bag behind at my counter.  I saw it, and saw them getting into their truck, but I didn't chase after them with the bag, I watched them drive off without it.

Then, I went out to eat at a fast food joint, and put my tray of food on the table.  Walke over to get a straw, and came back to discover a little girl had eaten my dessert.  I asked her why, she giggled and walked off.  I went and got another dessert, and put it on the table.  I turned away, and turned back to find a boy had eaten it this time, and I reached over and swatted him on the side of his head.

At this point, I was in a store looking for a stuffed animal for Cor's daughter Kayla's bday.  However, they were all beaten up, and I remember feeling badly that the toys wouldn't find homes looking that way.

::)

So I went to a Hallmark store, and tried to find a stuffed animal there, but kept getting distracted by Halloween decorations.

So....WTF?

I know that to dream of a store means ..prosperity and advancements in all affairs.....hmmmmm....and to dream of animals...not sure about "stuffed" ones...but it means it's a good omen for lovers and indicates a happy wedding...  :D

the rest....man,you're whack!!  lmao ::)

I had a dream, a dream about you, baby.
It's gonna come true, baby.
They think that we're through, but baby,

You'll be swell! You'll be great!
Gonna have the whole world on the plate!
Starting here, starting now,
honey, everything's coming up roses!

Clear the decks! Clear the tracks!
You've got nothing to do but relax.
Blow a kiss. Take a bow.
Honey, everything's coming up roses!

Now's your inning. Stand the world on it's ear!
Set it spinning! That'll be just the beginning!
Curtain up! Light the lights!
You got nothing to hit but the heights!
You'll be swell. You'll be great.
I can tell. Just you wait.
That lucky star I talk about is due!
Honey, everything's coming up roses for me and for you!

You can do it, all you need is a hand.
We can do it, Mama is gonna see to it!
Curtain up! Light the lights!
We got nothing to hit but the heights!
I can tell, wait and see.
There's the bell! Follow me!
And nothing's gonna stop us 'til we're through!
Honey, everything's coming up roses and daffodils!
Everything's coming up sunshine and Santa Claus!
Everything's gonna be bright lights and lollipops!
Everything's coming up roses for me and for you!

Reviving an old thread because of a dream I had last night.

LOL

My maternal grandparents were a couple who should NEVER have gotten married.  They did so because gram had a bun in the oven, my mom.

They lived in a small town in Pennsylvania, and fought like cats and dogs their entire marriage.

I swear, I didn't watch any sappy TV shows last night.  LOL

I dreamed I was in Pennsylvania.  I was the age I am now, but my grandparents looked like they did when I was a kid.  Instead of the house they lived in, in the dream they lived in a small farmhouse.  While it wasn't a farm, it was on the outside of town.

They were actually very nice to each other, and I was there, helping them do some chores, and shopping, and decorating their house for Christmas.

I can still see grandma walking around in my dream in a pair of overalls, something she never wore in real life.  LOL

I'm taking this as a sign that they're at peace with each other now.

That's a sweet dream, Chuck.  I think you may be right that it's a sign.  It's good to feel a connection with them again, and in such pleasant circumstances, isn't it?

and lmao @ your grandma wearing overalls!!  ;D ;D ;D

I used to have interesting dreams about my grandmother. one was a recurring dream where she would be climbing quickly up a hill while i (and other family members) would be lagging behind. I remember her turning back and looking over her shoulder with a sparkle in her eye and a coy smile, and telling me to hurry up, that it wasn't a big deal... I haven't had that dream in... forever!

I had a crazy/fun dream  the other night, and I know exactly what caused it.

I found a website that lets you read comics free online.  While I don't read new comics (I'd pay for those) I will read older comics that are no longer available for sale.   The stories I was reading were super hero ones, so (of course) I dreamed I was a super hero.

Anyway, I was in a team of heros, I didn't recognize any of them, my powers were magic based, sort of like a witch, shooting bolts  of  magic energy out of my hands.  However, my main power was that I was empathic, able to feel the emotions and feelings of others, and (if necessary) pull those feelings from them,  to help them heal.

The fight against the villains was taking place by a cemetery, and one of the villains had a bull-horn like device that amplified the feelings of the restless spirits, and it would hit me like a physical force.  Think of someone growling/screaming, and amplify it by 10.

The funny part was, I had fallen asleep with the window open, and at one point in the dream, just when I was being  surrounded by that loud growl/scream, two motorcycles sped past my apartment, with their motors screaming....I woke with a start, and almost shot up in the bed.

Wow - sounds more scary than fun, but then again, you were a super-hero, so they wouldn't scare  you.

And what a great power to have...I'm pretty sure you already do have it  ;)

Oh, I had a pair of odd dreams over the weekend.

One dream I was back in my old position of a bank teller.  I was in my old branch, and  there was a bad snowstorm out.  I had all the tellers prove out their tills and go home.  I was trying to do the same, but I was surrounded by friends, some local, some Brokies, and they were all in my way, keeping me from getting my job done so I could get home.

The other dream, I was living in a trailer, but for some reason, had a big, plushy couch.  I was sitting on the couch, and I could see an indent where something was sitting, but it was invisible.  I could feel threatened by it,  and I kept telling it to leave, but it would just laugh or speak sarcastically at me.

14 Common Dreams and What They Really Mean

BY KRISTEN BATEMAN AND MADGE MARIL

You’re falling. Your teeth fall out. You're constantly 10 minutes late to your big work presentation. We’ve all had those dreams that've made us wake up in a full panic, only to realize they’re, well, just dreams. But what do they actually mean—and why do we still think about them after we wake up?

"For vivid dreamers, our body can often experience what is happening in the dream," says Eliza Boquin, a licensed psychotherapist, sex therapist, and owner of The Flow & Ease Healing Center. "As we begin to transition back into a state of alertness, it can take a few moments or even hours to get fully grounded into the present moment."

Turns out, dreams do matter. “Dreams are your subconscious thoughts. They’re a continuation of your thoughts of your day,” notes certified dream analyst and speaker Lauri Loewenberg. While you’re sleeping, your brain is conjuring up around five dreams per night (yes, even if you don’t remember them). That’s a lot of subconscious thoughts to unpack. And although every dream is unique, but they do tend to follow certain symbolic patterns. We asked Boquin, Loewenberg, and psychologist Dr. William Braun to explain the deeper meanings behind these 14 common dreams. Find out what yours means below.
