WOW! You guys are great! Thanks so much for getting this off the ground so quickly.

Ad rates We need a volunteer(s) to find out the ad rates for several papers and magazines, so we can decide what media outlet we want to go with.
Pete, I pulled a couple of rate cards from the LA Times (they have a gizillion of them).

Calendar-section movie ads vary a great deal. A full page BW ad would cost about $16K on Thursday (when I'm gather that the Weekend Calendar section is in a tabloid trim package . . . half the size of a normal broadsheet). Saturdays (broadsheet) are $22.5K, and the rest of the week is $42-46K (broadsheet).

Fractionals are $340 - $400 per column inch (full broadsheet page is 129 ci, and the Thursday version is 57.5 ci). Main section, full circ. ads run about $900 per column inch, so we can rule that out, but a partial run (only part the LA Times circulation geography) might be affordable.

From Dave, originally  on the other thread, posting here for reference and generation of ideas.

Quote
I think people are extremely skeptical of anonymous ads, so we need to name the site, so people interested (or reporters) can see for themselves that it's a group of concerned people unaffiliated with the studio or anyone else.

and pete had a clever idea of how to manuever the idea of homophobia in there without an accusation. what if we thanked he filmmakers for something like "spotlighting issues of homophobia and social acceptance for gays . . ."? something along those lines. maybe.

I have one MAJOR suggestion. I think that one element that should be played up a bit more,  is that we need to convey why this film is so special to us. Why this matters. stating that we think it's the best filml of the year, and citing all those others is great, but lets give the hollywood insiders a taste of what it did to us. i think the "healing and transforming our lives" is exactly the right concept, but we should expand it slightly. it can't me long--maybe one or two more sentences--but we need to capture the power this had over us.

i.

I have the picture book (BBM distributed for Oscar bid)
I remembered the most touching thing to read is not what awards or Critic Acclaim BBM has got
it's the ordinary people'w words (I believe they got those from BBM's offical website's share your story part)
so powerful and sent me to tears immediately
won't watch Oscar for the rest of my life

We definitely need to set up a poll so we can vote which magazine we want our ad to appear in.

reaper and dave-- the list was done by ethan and www.ennisjack.com i cannot take the credit (only for copying and pasting)--also can we take out ad in the HR and Variety as well as LA Times and NY Times--i am sure that if someone can spend 101,000 dollars on a shirt we can raise the money to do this.  let's get all forums to work together--all the fans of bbm.  together.  please.  someone may want to contact the guy who bought the shirts on ebay and see if he wants to help financially and we can at least take photos of his shirts  they are his now and no longer focus features!!  so, no copyright.

Thank you
etc.

A few things which may be obvious, but I'm late to this thread ...

1)  I like this idea and the direction it is going in;
2)  The font used for "Brokeback Mountain"  MUST be the same as was used for the movie ads;
3)  When approaching the trade papers, we should make the point that we are individuals (not rich people); and we should ask if they have any kind of discount (as in public service announcements) that we might quallify for;
4)  If we asked for pledges, we might hopefully get a decent idea of how much money we will have to work with;
5)  I never use Paypal; we need a US mail address where checks can be sent to.

We definitely need to set up a poll so we can vote which magazine we want our ad to appear in.

Part of that might be decided by ad rates. I will put up a poll though as long as we all agree the outcome may not be what we go with. Any of you LA folks have some insider info on where it will get the most notice by the people we want to have see it?

WE really need a volunteer to find the ad rates and maybe call the choices in the morning to see if the rates can be negotiated. Any takers?

Hi, all.  I've read most of both threads, but it's still not 100% clear to me...
   WHO are we "writing" to...
      Brokeback studio, creators, cast, crew?
      the Academy?
      entire film/TV industry?
      media?
      public at large?
   WHAT do we want...
      thank the Brokeback team?
      embarrass the Academy?
      get an audited re-count?
      rescind Crash's Oscar?
      re-award the Oscar to Brokeback?
      require all future voters to see every film?
      overturn the award?
      get people to join the forum/foundation?
Choosing those answers determines the ad content.

in my opinion anyone and everyone who wants to take the time to read this--the world and the people who donate are saying it to the cast, crew and everyone who worked on this that they have won the oscar of our hearts.........

Lee said he wanted to thank the two characters at the heart of "Brokeback" for his award. "Their names are Ennis and Jack. They taught all of us so much, not just about all the gay men and women in our society but just as important (about) the greatness of love itself."

Here is what Ang said last night  if we want to use it.

Pete, I pulled a couple of rate cards from the LA Times (they have a gizillion of them).
The Daily Variety rate card is more modest. The National edition is $13,280 full-page BW and the Hollywood edition is only $9,980.

The link to the email campaign in the news box is not working but the thread in the forum is working. That is where Nathan's list went to. Dave is working on fixing the link.
