We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

The book is Ennis; the movie is Jack.
Jack's death made the story greater; the Academy's tire iron made the movie greater.

When I feel that lonesome prairie wind
I let my soul get back to you again

And I will never let you, I will never let you,
I will never let you go.

Even though this wasn't meant to be
It's gonna break my heart to watch you leave
But I will never let you, I will never let you,
I will never let you go.

Why I'm feelin so, so low
I will never let you, I will never let you,
I will never let you go!

I WILL NEVER LET YOU GO ...... Jackie Green

Summer of 1964 .... Young Ennis del Mar sits in the Signal Wyoming bar waiting for his bud Jack Twist.
When Jack doesn't show, Ennis returns to Riverton and marries Alma Beers.

When Ennis Del Mar was accused of being unnaturally fond of sheep, he hotly denied it.

"I can't stand no mutton," he glared. "What I like is a juicy slab of beef."
"…in the family homestead of his dead lover, the shirts they wore while cowboying together long before: shabby denim and weary cotton, wrapped in each other's arms." Like this. Always.

...that's the first time I've been called mamo - I like it!
Instead of IM'ing you, we will now send you mamo-grams.

Very clever Lyle! Is this what a mamo-gram looks like?

Jack: I see royandronnie's been made a mod in here. Tell you what, she better not go all Aguirre on us, with rules and shit. I hate rules.

Ennis: But rules is important, Jack. Without rules, it's just chaos. Remember what Neitzsche done said: "out of chaos, comes order."

Jack: Aw, blow it out your ass, Ennis.

(With fond thoughts of Blazing Saddles)
Uh, hello, everybody. Deputy Sherriff royandronnie here. "Rules" didn't do Ennis and Jack any kindnesses, but we here do have to have some, and the ones I'm going to mention (again) here refer to Photo Captioning's Greatest Hits.

When our own CellarDweller set up that thread, he asked that posters in there

1. Not post anything but other posts, as quotes. Please do not post replies that consist only of praise for other posts. Mostly, that rule has been followed, but there have been several instances of this, and those posts will be removed. That's pretty painless.

2. This is not a rule, but there have been several duplications. These posts also are going--whoever quotes a post first gets to "keep" it. Also pretty painless.

3. This one's a lot harder: PLEASE do not quote NEW posts. One reason for this is simple: duplication. Six months from now, there could be a hundred or two pages in this thread, and no one's going to remember if a post from December has already been quoted. POSTS MORE RECENT THAN JULY 31st ARE GOING TO BE DELETED, FOR NOW. (The thread is actually working its way through June, but only duplicated July posts will be removed.) This is going to include numerous side-splitting or poignant posts, and I know enforcement of this rule is irritating. We all love a lot of those "instant classics." But the rule is a good idea, and Chuck decided on it for a reason. So, with apologies, we're going to keep Greatest Hits a "classics" thread and force all the caps to stand the test of time. So whoever gets back to these posts a few months from now, gets to claim them… Meanwhile, if any of your quotes are deleted, you will be sent a copy and link or links to those original posts, and if you want to repost them when the thread moves into that month, you will have the inside track.

Now, a little tech support! It has been noticed that only a few posters contribute the lion's share of the quotes. We're hoping the reason for this is that a lot of people, especially those who have dial-up, took one look at the prospect of scrolling through the thread page by page by page by page and gave up. So here is the short cut:

1. Click on "profile" to bring up your profile.
2. Click on "show posts."
3. Find the last caption you quoted, and click on the green title at the top which identifies the original poster and date of posting.
4. This will take you straight to the original of the last post you quoted, on page 1 or page 1001, and you're set to search out more posts!

Once again, I'm sorry we have to take out a lot of great posts for now, but it's all in the service of making PC Greatest Hits a streamlined digest of member favorites.

Jack: And then royandronnie says to me, "PLEASE do not quote NEW posts. One reason for this is simple: duplication. Six months from now, there could be a hundred or two pages in this thread, and no one's going to remember if a post from December has already been quoted...blah, blah, blah...."

Ennis: Whut?

Jack: I know, I didn't git it neither. But I think he wuz tellin' us he's tryin' to get in there and untangle them quoted posts outta ours.
