I have no idea what to make of this...  :-\

The AMPAS Museum (!) is having three upcoming weekends of Drag Queen Story Hour and Scenes with Queens, hosted by the Drag Queen Pickle who will be joined by drag artist Tony Soto for readings of  "The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish"  by Lil Miss Hot Mess, "Feminist Baby" by Loryn Brantz, and "It's Okay to Be Different"  by Todd Parr. This will be followed by Scenes with Queens, a family friendly reading of selected scenes from the various films represented in our Stories of Cinema exhibition with members of the audience.

Huh?  :o

The only thing there that sounds to me as presumably appropriate/OK for families might be "It's Okay to Be Different," although I've never heard of it. I'm just reacting to the title.

(Full disclosure: I think I've said this before, but I don't agree with Drag Queen Story Hour to begin with.)

Mike Johnson’s Wife Founded a Company That Equates Being Gay With Bestiality and Incest: Report
Every new revelation about the House Speaker is worse than the last.
by Bess Levin
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2023/10/mike-johnson-kelly-johnson-onward-christian-counseling-services

In the days since Republicans elected Mike Johnson as the Speaker of the House, a massive amount of information has come out about the previously little known representative from Louisiana, most of which has not been good. The person now second in line to the presidency is a climate-skeptic who tried to overturn the 2020 election, is virulently antiabortion, thinks mass shootings are caused by the teaching of evolution, and has said things like “homosexual relationships are inherently unnatural and…harmful and costly for everyone.” And, as it turns out, his wife appears to have some similarly hateful views about the LGBTQ+ community too.

HuffPost reports that Kelly Johnson, the spouse of the newly elected Speaker, runs a counseling business that in its 2017 operating documents compares being gay to, among other things, having sex with a family member or animal. Specifically, Onward Christian Counseling Services’ operating agreement states: “We believe and the Bible teaches that any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography or any attempt to change one’s sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex, is sinful and offensive to God.” The Speaker, who previously practiced law, notarized the document, and his signature appears on the last page.

P.S.:The company’s website is no longer accessible online.

As HuffPost notes, it’s not clear if Representative Johnson currently believes being gay is equivalent to bestiality and incest or if he did back in 2017. But there are strong indications that he and his wife are in lockstep in their point of views: Of the hateful things he’s written* about the LGBTQ+ community over the years, Johnson told Fox News' Sean Hannity, “I don’t even remember some of them,” which, to be clear, is not the same as disavowing what he said. He added, “I…genuinely love all people regardless of their lifestyle choices,” which, again, is not as reassuring as he probably thinks it is.

I've been meaning to write about this, though I don't know what to make of it.

For a long time there was an "honor box" for the Philadelphia Gay News on a street corner I would pass on my way to do my grocery shopping. Last week, when I passed that corner, the box was gone. On my way home from the supermarket, I discovered the box half way up the block from its usual location, completely smashed in, crushed, and otherwise destroyed.

It could have been crushed by a car missing a turn at the corner, but there is also a lamp post on the corner (I think the box may even have been chained to the lamp post; I don't remember). The lamp post showed no evidence of being struck by anything.

I don't know what to make of this. If it were a box for another newspaper I wouldn't even give it a thought, but it's a box for the Philadelphia Gay News.

I don't know what to make of this.  :">

When I passed that corner on my way to the supermarket yesterday, there was a brand-new box where the destroyed box was originally located.

I still don't know what to make of the destruction of the old box. Maybe somebody did just cut a corner too short.

He's a mere 34 years old.

LGBT trailblazer Jeri Dilno dies at 87

Drew Sitton -  February 16, 2024

Local LGBTQ+ trailblazer Jeri Dilno died on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024 at the age of 87. She was a veteran, Pride organizer and lesbian activist who was critical in the advancement of San Diego’s LGBTQ+ community.

“The San Diego community lost one of its pillars with the passing of Jeri Dilno. For a half century, Jeri was an outspoken advocate and trailblazer for LGBTQ+ equality and women’s rights, serving in top leadership roles with organizations such as San Diego Pride, San Diego Democrats for Equality, and the San Diego LGBT Community Center.  She will be remembered for her dedication and indomitable spirt, as well as her wit and wisdom. I will miss my dear friend, Jeri,” said State Senator Toni Atkins.

Dilno went to Point Loma High School then San Diego State College before joining the Air Force. When she was discharged over being gay, she was the only person targeted by the investigation to fight the charges and request a hearing.

After moving to Philadelphia, she played a pivotal role in organizing the city’s first Pride march in 1972 – experience she used in 1975 after returning home to San Diego to organize this city’s first Pride celebration.

Nick Offerman calls out 'homophobic hate' against The Last of Us: 'It’s not a gay story, it’s a love story'
The actor won best supporting performance in a new scripted series at the 2024 Independent Spirit Awards for his role as Bill.
by Shania Russell | Entertainment Weekly

Nick Offerman put his acceptance speech to good use at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, by clapping back at the homophobic backlash that followed his brief role in The Last of Us.

On Sunday night, Offerman earned the prize for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series, the latest accolade for his turn as Bill, a hardened survivalist with a heart of gold. Once the spotlight was on him, the actor wasted no time singing the show's praises.

“Wow, thank you so much. I’m astonished to be in this category, which is bananas,” Offerman said when he took the stage. “Thanks to HBO for having the guts to participate in this storytelling tradition that is truly independent. Stories with guts that when homophobic hate comes my way and says, ‘Why did you have to make it a gay story?’ We say, ‘Because you ask questions like that. It’s not a gay story it’s a love story, you a--hole!'”

Army Doctor Accused of Sexual Misconduct by at Least 42 Male Patients
All the charges against him could lead to 3000 years in prison.

It's a good thing this didn't happen before DADT was repealed.

Hooray for another step ln the process in Australia.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-22/nsw-laws-banning-gay-conversion-therapy-pass-parliament/103618786

"New South Wales has become the latest state to ban the practice of gay conversion therapy.
The legislation will criminalise gay conversion as well as make it illegal for people to be taken out of NSW to undergo controversial therapy.
The Environment Minister and leader of the Legislative Council Penny Sharpe said the bill makes a statement that "harmful practices have no place" in NSW.

"What New South Wales has done today is to say to our LGBTQ community that you are fine just the way you are and that we will look after you and that we will protect you," she said.

"New South Wales is better today with the passing of this legislation."

Legislation banning conversion practices has already been passed in Victoria, the ACT and New Zealand — while Tasmania and South Australia are considering reforms."

As a person who underwent a comparatively mild form of treatment when (1970) it was still practised in state hospitals, very glad to see it at last.
