Thanks for sharing this, Michael!   So interesting, and you went through so much to find out who she really was.  You even solved the mystery of the 'son'.

Thanks Ingy and Chuck! Yes, I thought it was quite interesting that an older woman found a place in what was a vibrant gay community in that era.

If you're ok with this, I'd like to feature your story in TDS next week.

I'm fine with that. I've been doing the column for 5 years now and it's a monthly history feature at the paper. If you have any further questions you know where to find me.

Hi all,

I just wanted to share one of my articles from the Bay Area Reporter over here on "Polly Polaroid", a woman who used to take photos in the bars from the 70s through the 90s. She was a straight ally and was wildly popular with bar patrons. After the article was published I got an email from her nieces in Idaho who were so happy to see pictures of her! It's a fun slice of San Francisco LGBT history:

Once again a fantastic article, Michael. I'm glad you had such an amazing personality to research and find out so much about! So cool her nieces saw the article and contacted you!

In honor of the mention in the "Daily Sheet" here is another one of my history articles, this on a bartender I found via videos online. He started going to gay bars in San Francisco in the late 50s, after serving in the Korean War. And he has put together his own personal history. UBB members, this is Robbie Robinson:
