I'm disappointed, as well, Lydia, but nothing is to be done...

I will ask her again about doing an Amzon review...maybe she can be "guilted" into it?   :D

Thank you for the birthday wishes.   :-* :-* :-*

*asking repeatedly is a well-known strategy for success*   ;)

not guaranteed, mind you (and please don't tell my son about this)  what I mean is, whether or not guilt is a factor, a busy person needs reminding and also needs reminding how nice and wonderful you are.

Keeping this line of communication open will give you a reason to stay at the top of her consciousness.

Also, Jackie, you might want to send her a message that you are ready to stand in for anyone who may "cancel."

I am visualizing that this will work for you and she will call you to speak soon. :D

PS  Also tell her our book is now on the Harvard website.

Update:

due to recent google advertising (paid for by book revenues) our book has been doing well in Amazon ranks.

Today I noticed our Search Inside feature is finally working!  We must have gotten Amazon's attention.  :D

Here is a link to a new article by Eric Patterson, titled "Eligy for Heath Ledger: His Imperishible Achievement in Bokeback Mountain"

http://rowmanblog.typepad.com/

excerpt

There isn't time for such extensive analytical discussion, though of course it should and will come eventually. It isn't necessary now; all one really needs to do is to watch Brokeback once more and feel his extraordinary performance. Of course, one of the effects of the endless parodies and "jokes" about the film ever since its release has been to prevent appreciation of it, to seek to neutralize its beauty and power by burying it in ridicule. Can one imagine such continuous abuse being directed at a film about any other minority group, at, say, Schindler's List or Do the Right Thing? But for those who aren't poisoned with hatred of men who love men, and who can watch the film with open hearts, it speaks for itself.

This is a great article, take a look.  Our book is mentioned.

Eric Patterson is associate professor of American studies and American literature at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He is the author of an upcoming book On Brokeback Mountain: Meditations about Masculinity, Fear, and Love in the Story and the Film.  TDS is going to review his book soon.

P.S. -- I have the Patterson book now, and the Ultimate Brokeback Forum, Beyond Brokeback, is listed in the bibliography.

Terrific. I think we already mentioned his book in TDS, didn't we? Last week? Week before?

Got this through my news alerts:

"BEYOND BROKEBACK "" THE POWER OF STORY," a staged reading of "Brokeback Mountain" by Annie Proulx, is set for March 10 at Livermore's Firehouse Bistro and Books.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with a menu of potato and bacon chowder for $8, and wine, beer and other beverages, followed by the reading, which is free.

Actors, including Connie Duke, Tom Darter, Bryant Hoex, Karen Hogan, Kathy Streeter and Clark Streeter, will read Proulx's short story, as well as excerpts from "Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film."

The event is at 2369 First St., Livermore. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.

I talked to one of the employees at A Different Light bookstore in S.F this weekend.

They have been selling 1 copy of our book per month. Not a huge amount, but we need to remember that we sold 44 copies of the book last fall to the same people that would normally have purchased it at the bookstore.

IMO it's great they sell that many when, in that situation, there is nobody "pushing" the book, and it isn't in a setting where people are specifically thinking about BBM.

So it is either selling because of "off the shelf" marketing (people like the cover, or it is placed strategically) -- or someone may go in and ask for it, as you did, John, with Eric Patterson's book.

Either way that is good.

A lot of the people that go to that bookstore aren't even thinking about books. The store also sells videos.
