Howdy to Chuck and Friends.
Thanks for taking us along on your trek to film sites.  Glad you could experience them first hand.  It must have been a great thrill.

There must be quite a lot of other faithful who have visited the sites - enough for the land owners to post signs.
What kind of reactions did you get,  if any,  from locals?

I continue to be amazed by the power & pull BBM has on our lives.   Thanks for helping keep the spirit of this Forum alive.

At a gift shop the day prior, I had found a cowboy angel pin.  I decided to leave it at the site.

I love that!

That first step you take is the longest stride
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

What she said! Wonderful photos!

After some searching I located this thread, and thought it would be best to "un-archive" it and copy Sonja's post from The Diner to here, as not everyone goes to The Diner thread.

Sonja, thanks for this update!

Hello diners!

Checking in from a rainy Provincetown. The rain doesn't bother me at all, it's nice to have some quiet time after two weeks of traveling. We've had the most gorgeous time in Alberta, saw most of the Brokie sites plus some other interesting and/or fabulous things.

Happy to report that most of the brokie sites are unharmed by the floodings, with one big exception: the Elbow Creek (aka "Sweet life") is totally gone. And I mean totally.
Those of you who have been there remember that it's located in a very nice picknick area right next to the creek. Picknick tables, fire pits, little paved paths winding in a wooded area between the parking lot and the creek. Remember?

Well, the whole picknick area is totally gone.  :(

The paths that lead from the parking lot just end abruptly after a little bit. The whole area is washed away, and now a big mess of debris. But, like a miracle, Paul and I managed to find the very bench where we carved J + E surrounded by a heart back in 2009!
Like everything else it was uprooted and had been moved around by the flooding water, and was lying upside down in a big pile of uprooted trees and other debris, but we managed to get to it, and Paul was able to lift it up a little so that I could peek underneath and actually see our carving!

Elbow Falls are mostly unharmed, although part of the construction on the side is gone.

One other big, and unexpected, change is Jack's murder site.  It used to be this peaceful and sad little spot between the railway and a wooden fence, very quiet and tranquil.  Now, we weren't even sure we were in the right place. The whole area has been transformed into a huge container transfer station, paved, with hundreds of huge trucks and containers being moved to and from trains.

A few fence posts are still there, and I did think I recognized them, but the one thing that convinced us that this was indeed the right place, was a little cowboy angel that Chuck pinned to one of the posts on a previous visit. Again, like a miracle, it was still there so we knew this was the spot.

But the whole place looked horrible, and we didn't stay long.

There will be pictures posted on BM for those who are interested.

Great! I had forgotten this thread existed!

On the earlier pages are the links to my vids of the movie sites too, from 2007.

Chuck, Thanks for posting the info from Bettermost.  The news that the "Sweet Life" sight is now gone is heartbreaking.   The scene filmed there is one where you can see the hope and agony in Jack's eye as he asks Ennis one more time...   V.

Been following along with Paul's pics and all at Facebook.

My grandmother was born and raised in the Calgary area, my dad and uncle worked on huge cattle ranches in the area...

I'm so glad that I went to Alberta when I did and saw most of the location sites ....except for the "laundry" and a few others. But I did get to see what has been washed away.
We have been checking out RV hire and flights for perhaps next year....but now I have read this....I'm not sure.  There's that old saying
"Never go back"....and being that I saw things at their best......maybe I shouldn't.  :'(
"I  know that ghosts have wondered on the earth,
Be with me always. Take any form. Drive me mad,
only do not leave me in the dark alone, where I cannot
 find you.
I cannot live without my life.
I cannot die without my soul.
