We watched The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus yesterday. It's Terry Gilliam's craziness at its best. Probably not a movie for everyone, but we really liked it. But... Of course there's a but. It was way harder than I thought to watch Heath. This strange longing, dark feeling kept with me through all the movie and I don't think I could watch it as I would have if it was any other movie. No way to be objective about this one. And I also don't think I will watch it again. M really liked it though, he is a Gilliam fan and this movie kind of sums his world up, you can see so much Monty Python in it too. Excellent cast, Tom Waits is a surprise for me and I feel really thankful to Depp, Law and Farrell for honouring Heath as they did.

I saw IoDP when it was in the theaters.  Really enjoyed it, thought it was fun and surreal.  Like you said, not a film for everyone, and to be honest, if it wasn't for Heath in the film, I probably wouldn't have seen it at all.  I'm glad I did.

I'm not a movie goer at all, but I've managed to see three of Heath's films.  He was fantastic in all.

Fabulous movie. My all time favorite ("sorry BBM" !)movie of Heaths.
Michelle was pregnant with Matilda at the time of him making it...
and he used to keep on phoning her up and asking if everything was OK
with her. If you watch the movie .....you will understand his reasons for doing this.
His best ...most convincing role. The last scene where he weeps is just
as worthy of praise as the last scene in BBM.
Wonderful.

Heath would have been 40 on Thursday. How sad to think he's not here. 
 

He played Ennis as a 40 year old of course, and I always remember saying as I watched that in the film, that heath will look nothing like Ennis did at 40 when hes 40 ...

Kate Mara Recalls Heath Ledger Taking Her 'Under His Wing' on the Set of Brokeback Mountain

Kate Mara is looking back on her experience on the set of Brokeback Mountain with fondness — thanks, in part, to the kindness of the late Heath Ledger.

The actress had a virtual chat with Andy Cohen for Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live, where she talked about her new Hulu miniseries A Teacher and how Ledger, who died at the age of 28 in 2008, had her back on the set of Brokeback Mountain, one of her first films.

After Cohen recalled how Mara, 37, played Ledger's character Ennis Del Mar's daughter in the film, she told the host, "I was 19, but he was only a few years older than me. It was pretty crazy."

"But he was the sweetest thing. That whole experience was really amazing," she continued. "And even though he was only a couple years older, he really took me under his wing, 'cause I hadn't worked that much."

"It was really special," Mara said.

Very true.  No one has ever talked about him being mean on the set, or being difficult to work with.

Heath Ledger Nearly Didn't Appear in Brokeback Mountain

By all accounts, Heath Ledger was more than the average Hollywood actor, excelling in method acting before his tragic death in January 2008 from an accidental drug overdose, according to CNN. As fans might recall, Ledger took on the coveted Joker role in 2008's The Dark Knight, which has previously been portrayed by Cesar Romero and Jack Nicholson. In a 2007 interview with Empire, he discussed the methods he experimented with to embody the Joker character, explaining, I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices."

Another culturally dynamic film Ledger starred in was 2005's Brokeback Mountain, where he portrayed a gay ranch hand who fell in love with a rodeo cowboy, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. However, the Brokeback Mountain role — which launched many needed conversations regarding the LGBTQIA community and representation — almost didn't happen with Ledger as one of the main characters.

wonderful to know that you noticed the picture of Heath on the

Upon its release in 2008, The Dark Knight sailed far higher than its expectations. After the success of Batman Begins, the sequel — which brought in the late Heath Ledger as the Joker — promised to expand on Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City. But Ledger nearly said no to the project. Here’s what ultimately convinced him to sign on for The Dark Knight.

When Ledger was cast as the Joker, fans were understandably skeptical. After all, many probably still knew him best from romantic leads such as 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight’s Tale. But by the time he joined The Dark Knight, Ledger had already delivered a career-changing performance in Brokeback Mountain. So the stage was set for greatness.

The actor, of course, died tragically on Jan. 22, 2008. Prior to his death, he completed principal photography on The Dark Knight. The movie was released to theaters six months later, earning more than $1 billion worldwide. In addition to heaps of critical praise (and stunning co-star Michael Caine on set), Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award in 2009.
