I liked it a lot, but I wouldn't say that I loved it.

What I most appreciated was how natural it all seemed, and it was great to see the men naked, in a casual way.

I think it grew on me. The first time I saw it (in the cinema) I did like it a lot, but I found all the bleakness of the farm and weather and the father’s illness etc so upsetting. But when I rewatched it I was more aware of all the positives - Johnny’s awakening to tenderness, Gheorghi’s loving forgiveness, the possibility of a better future for the farm...  And that adorable, chilly, uncomfortable first lovemaking! :)

I had the same reaction as some, GOC had a certain bleakness about it, COLD seemed to invade all the spaces to me. Ultimately though, it did touch me with it's own stark reality, you know? It ended up feeling very natural to me. But just a little SUNSHINE and WARM WEATHER wouldn't have hurt, no? LOL..... ;D

Agreed! Though there were a few faint signs of spring...

When I saw that movie it was on a supremely hot day and I thought the coldness and such was nice & refreshing!

They used the rough and bleakness to amplify his inescapable situation.   He’s trapped with no way out until they meet by chance as a hired farmhand. Hmm, sounds way damn familiar.  But they focused on a much smaller timeframe than our BBM.  Yes it’s intense and yes there are some really  great and touching scenes.  V.

Too familiar, if you ask me. That being said, I teally liked the movie.

But couldn't avoid thinking "this is how it could have been if it had happened some years later in another place".

"But couldn't avoid thinking "this is how it could have been if it had happened some years later in another place".  Hardly a day passes that I don't think that and ponder "if only I'd been born about 30 years later...." You betcha!
