We started discussing the film "Moffie" a while back. Did anyone else get to watch the film - thoughts?  V.

Not sure, the only performance I've seen of the play has been this one.

Apparently a longer filmed version has never been shown. I wonder if any Brokie has seen the original live play.

It was shown on over-the-air TV, so it was subject to FCC regulations back in 1982.

"Death in Venice screwed up my life" says Bjorn Andresen in a new documentary The Most Beautiful Boy in the World directed by Kristina Lindstrom and Kristian Petri.

At the age of 15, Bjorn Andresen, who is now 66, played Tadzio in Luchino Visconti's film.

--Dance of the Forty-One

Chuck posted about this movie in the TDS around two months ago and I decided to watch it.  It's about an illegal police raid on a house in Mexico 120 years ago where they found prominent men dancing together, half of them in women's clothes. The government tried to cover it up because the Mexican president's son-in-law was presumed to be involved and other prominent citizens.

Herein lies the problem with the movie...there isn't a lot of factual information to draw on so what we're presented with is all pretty surfacey. But I did like the period aspect of it and seeing gay people from another time period and another country, but the style of the film outweighs the subject in many ways, but it's great style.

An unusual feature of this gay rom com is the way it shows a diverse range of Arab Muslim characters and their very different attitudes to their religion.

^^^ Affirmative.  It's nice for change to see a non-stereotypical Arab Muslim presentation.

The concept the religious context is finally understood by "Mo" (Haaz Sleiman) to be "guidance" vs. "absolute dogma" is refreshing though he had to learn that life lesson the hard way.

I enjoyed the positive ending and there were a few twists along the way.  BSMBH.  The actor playing "Kal" (Michael Cassidy) - speaks with his eyes!  8)

Yes, it is a gay rom com but a refreshing take as several reviews referenced.  The film came out in early 2020 so it's not been on a lot of play lists.  Just think of it as a nice, afternoon diversion.  Stay safe, stay alive.  Peace. V.

^^^ WOW.. None of those. 

I've just seen in the past month "Moffie (2019)" and "Breaking Fast (2020)" .  It seems like they were just recently released in the US.  There are some others too but many are still queued for the US or they are on a streaming service I don't subscribe too.  It's been pretty scant lately on good films.  V.
