I'm a bit concerned that we don't have a specific thread on Ennis.  There are specific threads on Jack, & on Lureen & Alma.  There are times my posts start bleeding into other directions on these strings because everything in this film & story ends up veering back towards Ennis.  Anyone else agree?

there is already a thread specifically for Ennis: http://davecullen.com/forum/index.php?topic=1412.0
it's in a different section of the forums than this one [Film, Book, and DVD].

there's a whole section elsewhere devoted toanalysis of elements, themes, and scenes. there's one for analysis of Ennis, another for Jack, another for Ennis' relationship to Alma, etc etc.
May the bridges I burn light the way forward.

Well, this string IS called "new threads for THIS area."  That was my suggestion.  If it's not a good idea, fine.

i appreciate the suggestion for the specialised discussion, it's just that the discussion already is going on in its own place. wouldn't it be a waste of people's time or a splitting of their attention to have the same thing duplicated in two different places?

Okay, but my comment about blurring threads stands: the last 3 posts on "Jack's Fate" are about Ennis.

then somebody's screwing up by not finding where they should be posting. ;) people get offtopic way too easy.

re: above: probably we get off topic easily because we don't think so compartmentally in our brains...   ::) we just have our thoughts as they come and go.  sometimes it easy to decide to post a particular thought in a particular thread, othertimes, you want to share the thought with the people/posts that were around when you had the thought... even if it's "off topic"  :-\

yeah, it's real easy and to some degree it's good to follow an assocated topic, but what seems to be happening a lot lately is that the offtopic one gets followed almost entirely while the actual topic gets not even mentioned, so that the thread gets hijacked. recently we had that happen where the hijack went on for three pages with only one post on the actual topic of the thread. yi yi yi.

do you have any subjects you'd like to see a separate thread for?

Sorry if this has been suggested before, but I simply don't have the time necessary to read through dozens and hundreds of pages of posts, many of which just restate the same opinions about the same issues.

I'd like to recommend a "Best-of-BBM" subboard, similar to what Craigslist does on their forum.  Posts compiled by the moderators which they find to be particularly insightful about the film, or just enjoyable to read etc.

I admit, if such a subboard existed it would be the first place I'd go to get the "good" stuff.. :)

Umm...not really, but thanks for asking.  I just have random little thoughts about a gazillion different things - they don't hardly seem relevant for a whole thread, but sometimes I have a hard time picking an "appropriate thread" and I don't want to, you know, barge in in the middle of a pre-existing conversation.

the fact is, the various threads interrelate and overlap to an extent that it is virtually impossible, if you're addressing anything beyond a detail like, say, an eyelash, not to implicate more than one at a time.

E.g., how do you separate the fate of J from that of E?  (How do you separate the shirts?)
"Ennis del Mar wakes before five....The shirts hanging on a nail shudder slightly in the draft..It could be bad on the highway with the horsetrailer. He has to be packed and away from the place that morning...The wind strikes the trailer like a load of dirt coming off a dump truck, eases, dies...."

Nobody's spotted this in the movie so far???????
« Reply #341 on: May 06, 2006, 10:58:06 AM »
Hi Everybody.....
Ive watched the movie at least six time this week. I cry every time I watch it and think it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.
BUT..... Did anybody notice the thing Ang Lee did with the shirts???? The one Ennis finds in Jacks closet??????? The one Jack swiped from Ennis when the first met and kept for twenty years... This is important:    When he first finds it in the closet Jacks shirt is covering Ennis's. In the last scene of the movie Ennis switches the shirts so his is covering Jacks. VERY SUTTLE but to me very profound!

cowboylover, we've learned in the months since the movie first was shown that it was Heath Ledger's idea to reverse the shirts. if i recall correctly, it was Ang Lee who told us this.

btw, hi, and welcome.
i should point out that while your comments are welcome, this particular thread is for making suggestions for new topics that you would like to see.
for lots of detailed discussions about story elements, scenes, or character analysis, you might like to take a look at the section on this link:
http://davecullen.com/forum/index.php?board=34.0
you'll find a whole collection of cool subjects. and of course check out all the sections of the board. i hope you enjoy your experience here.

Is there a thread for general suggestions for the site?  A "suggestion box" type thread...  (I realize this particular thread is supposed to be about ideas for the story and and film.. but I was unable to easily locate a place to make other types of suggestions... feel free to redirect me.

there was one in the Meet and Greet section called something like, and this is very inaccurately paraphrased, What would you like this board to be in about a year from now?
i just looked for the link to it, but it isn't there anymore. i could swear it was still there yesterday, but i could be wrong. Dave and a few of the other founders of the board are currently planning a substantial reorganisation of the sections and topics in an attempt to make everything clearer and more user-friendly, especially to newbies who would have a rough time finding their way in this huge place.
but anyway, right at this moment, i don't know of a link i can give you for suggestions. sorry about that.
