On Tripadvisor we have been discussing risks today. There was a 5.5 earthquake and several aftershocks in the 4 range on Sunday morning on the Alpine fault which is overdue for a mega quake. A person from Singapore asked if they should still come to NZ. We explained how we take little notice as there are tremors every day (thankfully only mag 2 or 3). A person from California agreed but said they freaked out while in another state and there was a tornado watch. I remember being at Denver Airport and the plane was delayed because ground crew were not allowed on the tarmac due to a tornado watch. I was a bit fearful and noticed the tornado shelters but most people just waited patiently.
