No, not the last, I haven't seen it and won't.

I like Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor in certain of his pictures...ok, guess Brokeback would be the only one so far.  He is a "movie star".  I am the fickle public.  Just because he's beautiful, doesn't mean I'll  see all his movies.

I am very much looking forward to LAOD, and will be totally let down if it turns out to be a H'wood piece of shit...rom/com w/sad ending, I hope it's more than that...

But PoP.......kid stuff

i always havent seen it
it was released on DVD in the UK last week and i dont even know if im gonna get it, not really my sort of film, i might rent it at some point just so i can say i've seen it

Im also really looking forward to LAOD

I'm also looking forward to LaOD.

I hope that it does well and gets critical success as well for both Jake and Anne.

Good for you!

What an unkind thing to say about Jake. :-\

Did this person see Brothers or Rendition or Donnie Darko or October Sky? Sheeit.

I was royally pissed off, I couldn't believe what I was reading. It's the first time I read something so blatantly untrue about Jake.

There's a lot of Jake hate out there. Not sure why.

I make it a point not to read any comments if I click on a news link about Jake. Better not to get my blood pressure up.

But in this case, the bitchiness was right there in the body of the article. Sigh.

You did good. :)

I know my opinion on him is biased and I know I'm being very naive but how can one possibly not like Jake?

Anyway, I'll have to keep my Italian easy-to-boil blood under control  :)

Perhaps Scott doesn't like Jake, 'cause his dig about Jake being a 'smug narcissist' was a bit too personal. Whether he saw Jake in his best roles probably wouldn't make a difference to him, since he already seems to be predisposed against Jake.  OTOH, I've always felt that actors/actresses who possess uncommon beauty are held to a higher standard 'cause it's easy to criticize them when their looks distract the viewer.  That being said, it seems to me that there are some here on the Forum who find it hard to criticize Jake even if he falls short of measuring up in some roles.  That doesn't mean he's a 'bad' actor, just that he may pick the wrong scripts.  We all know he's capable of great things -- his Jack Twist was a nuanced, sensitive, poignant portrayal in a difficult role that could have easily been overshadowed by Heath Ledger.  Jake held his own and was nominated for an Oscar. I look forward to Jake's future in films, if he gets the right scripts and directors.

I see what you're saying, Nikki, and I guess for my own part I do find it hard to criticize Jake, just because of the hate that I mentioned above.

There are a lot of people who resent Jake for not being what they want him to be- and who get really vicious and criticize every single thing about him, from the movie roles he takes to how he dresses to who he chooses to spend his time with. They seem to think that they "own" him.

And there are a good number of people here on the forum who seem to think that Jake should have retired after Brokeback Mountain and will never be pleased by any role Jake takes that isn't Jack Twist.

I want Jake to be able to continue to choose roles that interest him, not live with a set of expectations  that came about because he happened to make a movie with Heath Ledger when they were both 23.

Not every role is going to be successful, but IMo he's made some brave choices, and has a great career ahead of him.

I don't need him to be frozen in time as Jack Twist.

ETA: I'm not responding directly to you, Nikki, I know you don't think that. But a habitual negativity about Jake's choices after Brokeback does exist among some who say they are fans.

actually Heath had just turned 25 that April in 2004 and Jake had turned 23 Dec 2003.

Barb, I agree. I have never understood why a lot of people are concerned about how Jake dresses, who he dates, what he eats, etc.. Thank God the thread about speculation of his sexuality was taken off the Forum.Talk about invasion of privacy!

While I enjoy seeing the photos of Jake, and he is beautiful, I do think it can become obsessive.  When I was a kid I and other friends used to cut out pictures of 'movie stars' and keep them in scrap books. We were in middle school, not adults.  Some of that adoration here takes me back to those days.

I look forward to every new Jake film, but I'm not hesitant to criticize it if I feel he and the film are subpar, after all, his talents are too good to be wasted on dreck.  However, criticism including comments like 'smug narcissist' are personal rather than an analysis of his art, and that is dirty pool IMO.

Okay, I stand corrected. :)

I know the movie was released in December 2005, and I assumed that it was shot a couple of years before that, so since Jake was born in 1980, I guesstimated that he was 23 when he made it. Guesstimated wrong, LOL.

I knew Heath was a little bit older, but I always think of them as the same age.
