I feel something similar, it's just something about her, just a gut feeling. It's probably unfair, but just as love at first sight is supposed to exist, there is also I-can't-stand-this-person at first sight.

Astonishing. Because I can connect to this feeling of unease with a lot of actors, but absolutely not with MW.

Can't-stand-her is a bit too much, but yeah... I know what you mean, Elena.

Sacré bleu!

Exactement!

No, you're not. We aren't. We're only discussing  :)

Since this is Serious Jake, we're in the wrong thread to discuss Michelle here - but still... I stand by what I said. And if that's unfair, as Elena puts it so brilliantly, then so be it.

OK - back on topic then.

Watched 'Wildlife' this afternoon (DVD). What can I say? Somewhat disappointing, to be honest.

Carey Mulligan (as Jeanette) had by far the most interesting role, but somehow she failed to impress me. I felt like I was watching Carey trying too hard the whole time - such a shame.

Jake was good - but only as good as the role of Jerry allowed him to. He disappeared for half of the film, so it was hard to relate to him.

Only Ed Oxenbould, as young Joe, was convincing. He was undoubtably the star in this coming of age drama.

Well filmed, some great shots of nature, but overall a bit too slow. I kept waiting for things to happen - but they didn't  :(

just my 2 cents on Jake's movies...he's an A-list star and is in an envious (by actors) position of being able to pick and choose whatever roles he wants, not necessarily what his fans want, or what the Hollywood machine wants.

I'm sure he always puts 100% into his acting, and he doesn't seem to care if he is recognized by Hollywood/The Oscars or not.  It seems as long as he's doing what he loves, having fun and making money, he's happy.  Awards, and even popularity of the movies, seem an after-thought.  He seems to get better reviews for his stage work.  I've only seen 2 of his movies, but would like to see him onstage.

Well, Nancy, you can, if you want to fly to NYC. He's going to be doing his latest play for like 6 weeks? I'll have to look at the dates......August 8th through Sept 29th, at the Hudson Theater. There you go!!

Apart from Brokeback - which one, Nancy?

It seems as long as he's doing what he loves, having fun and making money, he's happy.  Awards, and even popularity of the movies, seem an after-thought.

Yes, and good for him. I love how he's taking his own road and has (finally) found his path, it seems. 'Wildlife' is another one of those small(er) films of his. I've read that Paul Dano offered Jake the role of Jerry and Jake took it to "help him out".  "Just a group of friends making a movie", he said. Who cares about Hollywood?  ;D

Due to the setting in the sixties, 'Wildlife' reminded me of 'Moonlight Mile' (early seventies), but with Jake in the father role this time, instead of the son. Both films have the same sort of vibe at times. Loss, loneliness, a sense of grief...  Doesn't that go for a lot of Jake's movies - and theatre work as well?  ;)

If I still lived in Philadelphia I would, but no flying for me unless emergency.
