The 50 Most Powerful Coming Outs of 2012
|
It's the time of year where you see "countdowns" on various topics, which mark the passing of the old year. Towelroad.com has compiled their list, a Top 50 Most Powerful coming outs of 2012.
This list is basically people in different fields who have come out of the closet in 2012. Names on the list represent the worlds of sport (Tom "Bozzy" Bosworth, Orlando Cruz, Wade Davis) news/reporters (Anderson Cooper, Sam Champion) entertainment (Gillian Anderson, Anne Burrell, Denise Ho) and even fictional coming outs ("Mitch" from ParaNorman, Green Lantern).
If you want to check out the complete Top 50 list, just click the link below to go to the Towelroad website.

Top LGBT Heroes of 2012
|
Examiner.com has put together a small list of three people who they felt were the top 'heroes' to the LGBT community in 2012, and give a brief explanation of why they were picked.
President Barrack Obama made the list for coming out in support for gay marriage in an interview in May. His original stance was that he wasn't in support of gay marriage, but for civil unions. He later made a statement that his view on the matter was "evolving" and finally he supported gay marriage, and it even became a platform at the Democratic National Convention.
Frank Ocean is a hip-hop artist, and the world of rap/hip-hop has long been considered a homophobic place. This year Frank Ocean came out of the closet and many in the industry thought he would get major backlash for his statement. Instead, his newly released CD was a commercial and critical hit, and he recently received 6 Grammy nominations.
Madonna has long been a supporter of gay rights and gave major support to HIV/AIDS organization and fundraising efforts. This year while on the world tour in support of her MDNA CD, she had stops in Russia, where she was warned that she could face criminal charges, physical danger and lawsuits if she pushed a "homosexual agenda". Refusing to back down, Madonna spoke onstage about treating gay people with respect, and passed out gay rights wristbands to the audience.

Beyond Brokeback in Phoenix, AZ
|
Beyond Brokeback is looking to bring their stage performance to Phoenix, Az. in March of 2013. This is a "call-out" to any of our Arizona members. We're looking for a volunteer group of 6 or 7 people, including a pianist and/or guitarist, to perform a staged reading of Beyond Brokeback.
If you know anyone who you feel can help bring this to fruition (actors, musicians) please PM BayCityJohn with any suggestions or leads in the Phoenix area.
This is a prime excuse for an Arizona gathering.
Please see the link below for the thread that has been started on this possible event.

Thread Spotlight SectionWe continue to spotlight the threads from last week's TDS, with one new addition that needs special mention.
In celebration of Christmas and New Year's, DCF members Lyle (Mooska), Morrobay & MiaIsland have been very actively posting in our Fan Fair thread, sharing multiple images of classic Hollywood icons celebrating both Christmas & New Year's. Together they have managed to find holiday images of Shirley Temple, Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire, Jane Russell, Yvonne DeCarlo, Jayne Mansfield, The Monkees, and many other classic film & music stars.
The display of these fantastic images starts on page 56 of "Fan Fair" and goes to the current page of 100! If you want to relive these holiday memories from years gone by, click the link below, which will take you to the first post of this year's holiday postings. I'd also like to thank Lyle (Mooska), Morrobay & MiaIsland for bringing back some great memories, and spreading holiday cheer in the Fain Fair thread.
"Fan Fair"December 24th marked the 7th anniversary of The Dave Cullen Forum. We have a section of the forum called "Four Fuckin' Years" which was started on the 4th anniversary of the forum. Please feel free to drop by any of the threads there, and make posts to discuss any memories you want to talk about.
"Four Fuckin' Years"Today is the first day of the new year. Each year, forum members post replies to a "survey" of sorts that is called "The 20-- Retrospective Survey". This is posted each year, and is our own "year in review", where we talk about what we did and maybe did not accomplish this year.
There are already a number of replies up. If you would like to read what your fellow members here have posted, and perhaps put your own reply up, simply go to the thread, quote the original survey, remove the quote tags, and fill in your answers. The Survey is in the "A Few Fun Questions" thread.
