In case you were wondering (as I was) this is the Etta James song that Google is using in their new ads:

I quite like this remix of Ladytron's "Destroy Everything You Touch":

For comparison, here is the original:

Reposted from the Diner where foreverinawe posted it originally. DEFINITELY worth listening to! Absolutely gorgeous!

They are amazing!

They are Austrian, but they are multilingual and have lived in many different countries. Neither of their parents are English (or American), but are both musicians.

What astounds me is how perfectly they echo Don McLean’s inflection and pronunciation. McLean is a born and bred New Yorker, but has no trace of the NY accent. Until I read his bio, I always assumed he was a midwesterner. The girls might not sense different US accents as much as you and I do, but it seems clear to me they had to have made a very deliberate effort to duplicate McLean.  Plus a whole lotta practice.

At any rate, their song seems perfect.  Many people regard American Pie as McLean’s masterpiece. I have always thought it was Vincent.

Olivia Newton-John has passed away, at age 73. Victim time and again of her numerous cancer assaults... Terrible. :-( R.I.P.

I liked her a lot, as a singer and as a person. Personal favourites of mine include "Sam", "If not for you" and "Let me be there".

Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John dies aged 73

In a short statement, her husband John Easterling said she had passed away at her California ranch on Monday morning.

"Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer," the statement said.

"We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

An actress and singer, Newton-John achieved commercial success as a country singer and sold millions of records.

But it was her role as Sandy in the film adaption of Grease that catapulted her to worldwide fame.

She covered two of George Harrison's songs from his 1970 triple album "All things must pass":

Harrison's lyric from that latter song are particularly poignant when you think of today's terrible end of ONJ's life ...

"Why are you still crying?
Your pain is now through
Please forget those teardrops
Let me take them for you
The love you are blessed with
This world's waiting for
So let out your heart please, please
From behind that locked door

It's time we start smiling
What else should we do?
With only this short time
I'm gonna be here with you
And the tales you have taught me
From the things that you saw
Makes me want out your heart, please, please
From behind that locked door"

I know a lot of people here may not remember, but Chad, Adrian's partner, was a HUGE FAN of ONJ, so I sent Adrian a note today, asking how Chad was doing since Olivia passed away. Chad was fanatical about Olivia!  ;D

Stunning lyrics reminds me of these words,  "we could have had a good life, a real good life!  But you didn't want that, ..."

Carpe diem, tick-tock, tick-tock. ...

They aired an interview with her supporting her approach to living - with the cancer - and making the most powerful contributions and changes she could....   R.I.P - ONJ...

The incomparable Lamont Dozier died this week at age 81. Aside from writing hits for Marvin Gaye ("Can I get a witness"), The Supremes ("Stop In the Name of Love")  and the Four Tops ("Bernadette") he had a career of his own as a musician and went on to write songs for Alison Moyet and Joss Stone. In the disco era he wrote this amazing anthem in the decade of "Roots":

And here is Groove Armada with Richie Havens doing the song:
