Hitler's biggest offense was not the extermination of Jews... the world would have just tsk tsked over that. But Hitler wanted to rule the world and made his intentions clear.
In 2010, 606 people (all ages) were accidentally killed by guns.
Almost 3000 teens (15-19) die in traffic accidents a year.
1100 kids under 19 drown each year.
44 kids under 5 died of heat stroke in hot cars in 2013.
HIGH school sports account for 1.2 million trips to the ER annually.

I suspect that the world always feels that someone should intervene whenever genocide happens, but what can effectively be done?

You (indefinite "you") could make a case for the nation-state of Israel never having gotten off the ground if it weren't for the Shoah.  That's certainly a dilemma for the favorite dodge of neo-Nazis.

I suspect that the world always feels that someone should intervene whenever genocide happens, but what can effectively be done?

Where is that interest when it comes to Africa?

I think quite possibly it's because no one intervened in Rwanda that everyone now is a little hypersensitive about intervening in alleged cases of genocide.

I don't understand what you are saying... no one stepped in so now no one wants to step in?
