A moose head mounted inside the restaurant where we ate dinner.

Our tour director was not sure how the custom originated of attaching locks to this fence.

The tradition started I think in Paris, where two people in love would seal the lock on a fence and throw the key in the water, to show that the love bond would never be broken.

But the city of Paris took a dim view of this practice, which was doing damage to the bridge due to the weight of the hundreds of locks, removed them and won't permit people to do it anymore.

The hotel faces west and advertises its sunset views.

Interesting photos. In 2010 I stayed with a friend in Maine in the town of Damariscotta.  She drove me around Maine and one lighthouse we visited looks to be the Burnt Island lighthouse. I did not write down it's name

Ah, good to have that information, Fritz.  I just knew there had to be a story behind it.

Thanks, Fritz.  Enjoyable, yes, and relaxing despite the 5:30 AM wake-up calls.    :D

Thanks, Chuck!  It was an interesting concept, that bridge.

This type of bridge is commonly found down in LA, though we have lift bridges too.

Glad you like the photos, Brian.

I went back and looked at the Burnt Island lighthouse and its shape is similar, although it seems to have red glass in the window panes of the tower itself now.  It's hard to tell.  There are so many lighthouses in Maine!

Yes it is a real problem in Paris - has moved to other bridges and very hard to stop and as Fritz says, it is damaging the bridges. They have had to remove 1 million locks weighing 45 tons

When you say LA I keep having to remember you mean Louisiana, not Los Angeles.   ;)   ;D

Makes sense in Louisiana.

So the Boothbay Harbor Inn advertised its sunset views, and we got these fearsome-looking clouds right before sunset Monday night.

A more typical sunset a little later that same night.
