In addition to the write-in votes, a lot of people stayed away and did not vote.
Those write-in voters may also have stayed home instead, so it's not just those
votes, it's also who didn't vote. Sen. Franken first won by 600 votes. A win is a
win.

A win is a win.

And "Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades."  ;D

Now, Jones needs to do a Caesar Rodney and get himself to Washington.

Video: Sen. John Kennedy grills Trump judge nominee, who struggles to define legal terms

Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana hammered one of President Donald Trump’s nominees for a federal judgeship with a probing, five-minute series of questions during a confirmation hearing on Wednesday.

The questions highlighted Matthew Spencer Peterson’s lack of courtroom experience. Pressed by Kennedy, Peterson acknowledged having never made arguments in a courtroom nor having tried a case — and then appeared to struggle to define a series of legal terms.

Peterson, who’s currently the chairman of the Federal Election Commission, was nominated by Trump for a district court judgeship in the District of Columbia.

Kennedy’s grilling of Peterson — who likely won’t face a committee vote until next year — went viral Thursday night after Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat and fellow member of the Judiciary Committee, posted the video to Twitter.

“Hoo-boy,” Whitehouse wrote.

full skit at the link...

On SNL, Trump’s White House celebrates Christmas by remembering the ‘haters and losers’

The White House gang was all there in the latest “Saturday Night Live” cold open, with Alec Baldwin reprising his role as President Trump — this time reflecting on his “amazing first year in office.”

First lady Melania Trump (played by Cecily Strong) opens by wishing everyone a merry Christmas.

“That’s right, you can finally say that again, because the war on Christmas is over,” Baldwin’s Trump says. “It will soon be replaced by the war with North Korea.”

He boasted of the forthcoming passage of the Republican tax plan that would come in time for Christmas, giving Americans the “biggest, fattest tax cut they’ve ever seen.”

“It’s such a big tax cut it might even make me a real billionaire,” Baldwin’s Trump says. “It’s my greatest achievement, so now I can settle down and be super-presidential — that is, until Don Lemon says something mean about me, and I tweet the actual n-word.”

To settle him down, the first lady encourages her husband to turn to trimming a Christmas tree, by hanging ornaments depicting the faces of “all the haters and losers I destroyed this year.”

A parade of familiar White House characters comes through to help them do this....

Next up is White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Aidy Bryant), who offers not one but two ornaments.

“For my ornaments, I brought Sean Spicer and Anthony Scaramucci, whose mangled corpses I stepped over to get this job,” she says.

Beck Bennett steps forward next as Vice President Pence (albeit with a hint of an accent from Bennett’s Vladimir Putin character), who offhandedly admits he doesn’t like the Christmas song “Deck the Halls” because it includes “gay apparel” in its lyrics.

Replying to @FLOTUS
Disgraceful for a First Lady, Christmas or not.  You look like a model on a photo shoot for the front page of Hustler.  I'm sure the elderly and poor will appreciate this photo given how you and hubby don't care about them, only your millionaire friends at Mar-a-Largo.

I'm not one to defend the Trumps, but at times I find myself feeling badly for Melania.   I think Donald put her in a completely unexpected arena.

With prior First Ladies, while they had no idea how to "be" a First Lady, they had an idea what was going to happen, as their husbands climbed the political ladder.   I think Donald completely surprised her with the decision to run, and she's in over her head.

I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one.  She's a grown woman, and doesn't know that the way she posed makes her look like an ad for an out call?  That's where her lack of class comes in, she just doesn't know any better, poor dear.

Plus, she has protocol and etiquette experts at her disposal to teach her everything she should know about how to behave as first lady of the United States.

I did see a meme that I thought was hysterical.  It was a pic of Melania and Donald, when they were taking calls to help track Santa's location.   Someone put on the image:

"Oh, good!  They got an expert in tracking old, fat men who leave jewelry behind!"

I met this summer a really interesting man who worked as designer for Carolina Herrera and he met the Trumps back in the 90s, and he told us some anecdotes, for instance that then he was married to Ivana and she used to order crazy expensive clothes that were never paid for, and that Melania was already around as "oficial escort", or something like that. He had not much positive to tell about them.

Thanks for sharing that item!

So, Ivana used to order crazy expensive clothes that were never paid for? I keep wondering why
a business continues to provide things to people who don't pay for them. Once burned. The
second time, "pay up front."  I have a friend who works in restaurant and there's one of the
customers (from the Shriver clan) who never pays for the meals. He says to send him a bill.
Yet they apparently keep serving him.

He had not much positive to tell about them.

Understatement of the year, I'd say!  >:D

I guess these businesses think having these people seen in their establishments gets them attention.

I don't think I'd keep giving them free stuff.

I guess they were at every event possible in NY and they just wanted their clothes to be seen. I was dying to keep on asking for details and gossip, this guy also worked in Hollywood and dressed people like Kate Moss and Hillary Swank, but my friend and I were gasts at his place and I felt too shy and didn't want to embarrass myself. We had great conversations, such amazing, intelligent people, I was really happy to have the chance to meet them.
