I've been in my home town in Central Pennsylvania since Saturday while my father has been hospitalized. This is a rock-ribbed Republican county, so I have been quite surprised by the number of Biden/Harris signs I've seen on front lawns in the city.

Another thing that surprises me. In times past, most of the Letters to the Editor in the hometown newspaper were from people attacking other people who were attacking the Great Orange Satan. Now the letters are attacking the Great Orange Satan.

When I posted that picture it was to accompany a story about him representing Biden/Dems on several Fox New interviews and the way he just leaves those hosts speechless when he answers questions in the simplest most devastating way because he's just telling the truth of the matter.

But then I just liked looking at the photo, heh! Yes, I think Press Secretary would be perfect for him. Especially contrasted with who's there now. I wonder what he would want.

Anyway, here's some paragraphs from that article:

https://www.latimes.com/story/2020-10-12/pete-buttegieg-ruthless-rhetorical-assassin

Last week, having served as stand-in for Vice President Mike Pence during Harris’ debate prep, Buttigieg must have seemed a natural choice for a predebate interview. Fox News’ Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier certainly thought so, asking Harris’ former rival a preloaded question about her public policy differences with Biden. Standing in front of Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City, Buttigieg gave his now viral-famous answer:

“Well, there’s a classic game of trying to find a little bit of daylight between running mates,” Buttigieg said. “And if people want to play that game, we could look into why an evangelical Christian like Mike Pence wants to be on a ticket with the president caught with a porn star, or how he feels about the immigration policy that he called ‘unconstitutional’ before he decided to team up with Donald Trump.”

Cue stunned silence in the studio and the sound of a kajillion social media posts.

Steve Doocy must have missed the segment and the tweets because he had Buttigieg on “Fox and Friends” the next morning. When asked a question about President Trump refusing to participate in a virtual debate, Mayor Pete answered: “I don’t know why you’d want to be in a room with other people if you were contagious with a dangerous disease, if you care about other people. But maybe the president of the United States doesn’t care about other people.”

Later in the interview, when Buttigieg brought up the president’s denigration of fallen American soldiers, Doocy, having learned nothing even from his very own interview, interrupted to insist the president had denied those reports. Buttigieg let him down easy with a classic “If you really believe the president now on this kind of stuff,” he said. “I’ve got a bridge to sell you.”

Then, during an MSNBC interview on Sunday, Buttigieg followed a touching response to National Coming Out Day with a calm, cool and collected shredding of Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s just-made opening statement ahead of her confirmation hearings. “This is what nominees do. They write the most seemingly unobjectionable, dry stuff,” Buttigieg said. “But really what I see in there is a pathway to judicial activism cloaked in judicial humility.”

Then he launched into a soliloquy that evoked the award-winning play “What the Constitution Means to Me.”

“At the end of the day, rights in this country have been expanded because courts have understood what the true meaning of the letter of the law and the spirit of the Constitution is,” he said. “That is not about time traveling yourself back to the 18th century and subjecting yourself to the same prejudices and limitations as the people who write these words. The Constitution is a living document because the English language is a living language. And you need to have some readiness to understand that in order to serve on the court in a way that will actually make life better.”

He went on to add that even the Founding Fathers — the guys that these “stone-hand originalists claim fidelity to” — understood the importance of changing with the times.

I have no doubt that Pence made a pact by trading his "Christian soul" to the GoS and in the process selling out everyone in America except those "holier than thou" evangelicals.

Absolutely dead on.  The real PTB would never be uneducated enough to have a quid pro quo conversation on that **@@(  nomination - at least not with her directly knowing she'd be under oath.  However, the GoS and the GOP have telegraphed their intents clearly for the past 4 years. We nominate you, we expect party above country.  The GOP has now morphed the court into exactly what they profess to abhor.

The whole cloak of "originalist" and "textualist" is dogmatic BS.  It's like saying the founding fathers had "time-traveling" foresight to plan for everything we see today - from social media to AK47s to nuclear power, climate change and air pollution. If they did, they would have surely written differently. This groups thinking stems from the religious  dogma that the bible text is literate too. This is not a new idea and it rooted in the evangelicals (see a theme here).  If literacy is what they want, then then let's outlaw divorce, start publicly stoning adulterers, harken women to be fully obedient to their husbands,  rescind women's rights across the board, ...  and I could go on and on quoting that BS old testament dogma.

Don't get me wrong, ACB is highly qualified to such a court position but should she be seated to upset the balance on SCOTUS is a whole other matter.  Her appointment clearly gives the ultra-conservatives a 6-3 almost unbreakable advantage for the next 40 years or a whole generation! I'll be long dead by the time these last 3 GoS appointees, are no longer executing a GOP, conservative, business-friendly agenda.

The Democrats got screwed in 2016 with the GOP colluding with our enemy Russia to put a GoS figure-head as POTUS.  I still partially blame all those idiots who voted off ticket for some 3rd party BS candidate b/c they just didn't like Clinton.   Remember it came down to ~ 80,000 votes out of millions that decided the 2016 election in the electoral college.   The GOP has been executing this takeover for 30 years with everything from gerrymandering to colluding.

Back to Buttigieg, I like what he represents. I hope someday he'll make an advisor or cabinet member or maybe higher - maybe in my lifetime.  However, nothing will piss off the moral majority and evangelicals any more...  Stay safe, stay alive. Peace.

FWIW, the thought came to me today that all the machinations of the Great Orange Satan and his minions are not the actions of confident people. They are the actions of scared people who think they're going to lose.

If they weren't so dangerous, they'd be pathetic.

More People Watched Biden on ABC Than Trump on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC

By Brian Stelter, Fri October 16, 2020

Joe Biden's town hall on ABC averaged 13.9 million viewers on Thursday night, easily surpassing the Nielsen ratings for President Trump's town hall on NBC. That alone was a result virtually no one in the TV business expected. And that's not even the most surprising part.

The Trump town hall was simulcast by two of NBC's cable channels, MSNBC and CNBC, but even when those channels are included in the total, Biden -- on only one network -- still prevailed.
The Trump town hall averaged 10.6 million viewers on the NBC broadcast network. On MSNBC, Trump reached 1.74 million viewers, and on CNBC, about 671,000 viewers. So Trump's gross audience across the three channels was 13 million, about one million fewer than Biden's audience on ABC alone.

Staffers at ABC News privately admitted to their surprise when the preliminary ratings came in on Friday.

The Nielsen ratings only measure viewership on TV sets. Both town halls were also live-streamed to phones, computers and other devices.

Yes, I was hearing on some news programs, before either of these aired,  that Trump wanted to do this town hall, opposite Biden, because he could brag about having more/bigger ratings. He was sure of it.

The most honest thing in what you posted:

Trump's gross audience

Ain't that the truth!:P

He'll still claim he had more viewership.

His buddy Putin will be happy to give him a nice comfy dacha in Siberia. He'll even throw in a lifetime supply of Uncle Vlad's™ famous soothing and refreshing polonium tea.

Yeah, Trump's putting it out there...he might leave...he does want to avoid prison, after all.

I'd say "Good riddance," but you know, if he went to Russia or someplace, even if Trump doesn't understand a lot, he has seen and knows things from being President. They could use him. Is there any law to prevent a former President from sharing state secrets. A law, not protocol. He's going to have to be watched and monitored when he's out of office. You know he'd sell any information he had to the highest bidder.

Jake Tapper shared some info yesterday:

@jaketapper
Former WH Chief of Staff John Kelly has told friends, about Trump: “The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me. The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else. He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life."

Duh.

One can only hope!

One of the other responses to this was that we should go ahead and buy Greenland and put him there along with his followers and not let them back in.

My theory is that he wants to leave and go somewhere with no extradition treaty with the US as he expects to be indicted on numerous charges once he is out of office! Once again, one can only hope!
