Yes, that's the feeling I got, as if they were writing AU fanfic. What would happen if...?
I'm pretty sure the incident in the pub was a racist one. And the father comes to terms with Johnny's life at the end. Nice..., I wish John Twist had also been so understanding.

At the same time it was very gritty and down to earth. Not over-romanticised, but it was lovely how Johnny was changed by Gheorghe's gentleness. (Though he could be tough when driven to it!)

I saw The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society yesterday with my film group. Unfortunately I could not talk about it with anyone afterwards as, while they all went for coffee, I hurried to the cathedral for the ordination of a dear woman friend as priest. My sister will probably not see it either as she does not go to the movies alone, her husband would not be interested and her best friend with whom she regularly goes to the movies, was born in Germany and did not migrate to Australia until a teenager in the late 40's. She will not go to any movie about the war. It must be difficult as she is very proud of her German culture and this film is very anti German.
I enjoyed it, although it was very sad in places. It felt like Downton Abbey revisited as so many of the actors were in that series although it is nothing like it. I found Michiel Huisman very attractive. Apparently he was in Game of Thrones but I never watched that. The only film he was in that I have seen was "The Young Victoria" and that was a long time ago.

--Peter Rabbit

An enjoyable take on the famous story with a lot of slapstick humor and over the top sight gags.
I knew it was animated, but I didn't know it was like Babe, in that the humans were actually human.
In the quieter moments the rabbits were quite charming. Purists might be offended, but it was given
a thumbs up by the Potter people.

I loved her in Black Christmas (1974).

 :(

I just recently watched Superman with my little one, and he loved it. Now both of them are gone. At least we still have Gene Hackman.

I always like the first Superman movie the best, although I never liked the ending.

It seems odd even to me that I should find the ending of a superhero movie "implausible," but I guess there is only so far I can "suspend my disbelief."

I really liked her in a non-Superman movie from 1983: Trenchcoat.

Of course, it helped that back in those days, I thought her co-star, Robert Hays, was really cute.

I should try to hunt that down on video.

I also liked Robert Hays, but for all the wrong reasons! I don't know how many times we watched Airplane!

I watched it again at Christmas with my parents and the kids and my father was again hollering with laughter  :D. Even my little one, who is 8 and probably (luckily) did not understand half of the jokes, wouldn't stop talking about the movie for days.

I should make that my introduction line!

I don't think I was much older when I saw it for the first time. And Ghostbusters, or Indiana Jones, or even Poltergeist (well, maybe I was older for this one). And they didn't traumatise me (too much). I have the feeling that today movies for kids are sooo childish and PC that sometimes they treat them as if they were babys. Anyway, he had a blast with Airplane

Oh, and Airplane!

I remember the summer it was going to come out we had gone to see a comedy
and they showed a trailer for AIrplane! and the trailer itself was so amusing that
the movie we came to see was a complete letdown. If memory serves it was a
movie called Wholly Moses.

By the way, with everything that's gone on since Airplane! came out, I really think
they could remake it or do another one. Just think of the list of things that could be
spoofed and made light of...people being dragged off flights, missing airplanes, Sully,
security pat downs (TSA), underwear bombers, emotional support animals,
people getting sucked out of planes, carry on baggage rules...

I also still remember some hilarious scenes from Airplane 2.

Speaking of missing airplanes, there's a new series coming on next season
called Manifest.  The premise: A plane lands in New York City...much to the
surprise of everyone as it had vanished five years ago and not heard from
since.
