--Rocketman

I saw Rocketman yesterday.

I just thought...this is a movie about a gay music icon, so I should put it in the Gay Cinema thread.

By the way, I spent lots of time as a child inventing stories for the people who return to earth, all the soldiers and sailors. Because that would have also been a great story, imagine these people landing in a world 40 years ahead of their time.

And E.T. never gets old. I watched it a year ago with my little guy (8 at the time) and he loved it, and I cried like the first time, when I was 9 years old!

^^^^^^

Just wondering, which versions of these films are you watching?

...sounds like a good plan for the summertime.

Wouldn't it be great to watch Close Encounters outside at night under a clear sky?

I haven't seen Close Encounters since ... well, forever. At my parents is still the VHS tape, probably recorded in the 80s from TV. I only need a VHS player! Anyway you can guess that's not a quality version, even worse, it's dubbed in Spanish and there are probably even tv commercials on it.

The E.T. one is the "modified" version with the added parts and the missing guns. I tried to get the original one, I like it much better, to be honest, but I couldn't find it, or found it at astronomical prices.

That would be amazing. I'm hoping for some open air cinema to show these kind of movies! There are many here in Summer, but they show the newest movies. Imagine making a Spielberg night with CE, E.T. and Jaws to spoil the bathing season!

I rewatched ET with the grandchildren a couple  of years ago too. They were about 9 and 10, and loved it. I did too, and cried buckets.

Confession time.... I have never seen E.T.    :">
I think I was still the appropriate age when it came out... (13) and also generally went to the cinema back then...I think it really didn‘t appeal to me, the look of the creature etc.

I sometimes wonder what is wrong with me, as there are quite a few iconic movies I haven‘t watched.

I forget I'm cold and crying
When your lips touch mine and I lose control
I forget I'm old and dying

I was the appropriate age when E.T. came out. I was 24. ...

(I don't mean it's a film for adults. I mean I was a big kid.  :D )

I doubt it - and I've seen plenty other good films already.  ;)
