I can confirm, as I said above, this reaction for two thirds of his movies.
In any case, for the majority of his movies.
And then, all of a sudden, there's a WA film that you can fall in love with.
Radio Days, for instance.
Now Radio Days was a real favorite of mine and thoroughly loved watching it. I don't know why I didn't snap to it was a WA film right away. Must have been a time when I wasn't paying much attention. Maybe I came into it late.
Anyway, I can tell you unequivocally that had I known it was a WA movie, I would not have given it the time of day, so I must be correct in that I came into it late.
I have always felt WA movies were just so overly pretentious, that I just couldn't get invested in them. So many people were so gaga over his works, that I just never discussed it with anybody. I kept thinking, "what am I missing here??".
