Jeff, take it from me, those Serpientés can make you feel that way sometimes. Tell your Dad not to be so pessimistic! The Phillies are 6-1 at home this October. It'll make today that much sweeter when they win!

A writer's column in the Washington Post today writes that "The Phillies winning Game 7 of the NLCS would help the World Series." He's not wrong. (The Astr*s NOT in it helps the WS, too!)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/10/24/phillies-diamondbacks-nlcs-game-seven/

What once felt like a Phillies phait accompli comes to Tuesday’s Game 7 and all the anxiety that entails. Here’s the thing: the 84-win Diamondbacks may be a nice team with some nice players. That’s cute. The Phillies? They have stars. They have thump. They make noise. “This team is too good,” designated hitter Kyle Schwarber said in a silent home clubhouse afterward. “Every time we’ve had something tough come about, we’ve responded.”

When I read that paragraph I thought of the famous exchange between Lou Grant and Mary in the pilot episode of The MTM Show:

Lou (Phillies): "You know, you've got spunk."
Mary (D'backs), starting to blush, thinks that's a compliment.
Lou (Phillies): "I hate spunk."

The Arizona team calls their style of play "chaos." Disorder. Confusion. I do not think the Phillies team will fall for it today!

I do hope he was trying to make a pun, though I have to wonder how many readers these days are literate enough to get it.

Won't be conflicted all rooting for the Rangers.

Sorry the Phillies didn't get there Jeff. It will be a less exciting WS because they did not.

I don't think anyone thought that Arizona would wind up in the World Series. I don't think anyone much cares that they did.

I know that a great deal of the country will, at least, be happy that neither the Dodgers or the Astr*s will be in the World Series. For six years in a row, since 2016, the Dodgers or the Astr*s have been in the World Series each time.

I don't know what it is about Corbin Carroll, but from day one (the Dodgers began the season playing Arizona 4 times) there's something about that guy that just bugs the hell out of me.

Today maybe he'll write that it's an Arizona Pfaadt accompli.

At this point my only concern is which hunks will be back next season.

How did this come up that you posted it Fritz!!!

I remember seeing a game Vin Scully was calling and when the player got to first, in Vin Scully manner, got to say this!!! I wonder if the player got tired of it because he was in the minor leagues and other MLB teams and this must've happened more than a few times! I'd have embraced it, because it just makes people happy!

I love the way this poster is phrased, it let's the viewer do it!

That Vin Scully call used to be on youtube and I looked for it. A better/good version isn't on there, but there is one where a fan has recorded it from a news report on his TV:

There's also this video from a fan in the stands (a different game) who is waiting for this to happen and gets so overjoyed when it does:

The games were exciting enough, but the teams in the WS were not. Although MLB viewership was UP during the regular season and also for the first few rounds of the playoffs, the WS viewership is on track to be the lowest ever.  :(
