My favorite pole vaulter, Mondo Duplantis of the Swedish team. His father and uncle went to my high school in New Orleans, so we claim him as our own. Born in Lafayette LA of a Cajun father and Swedish mother.

Mondo Duplantis sounds like something from Little Shop of Horrors.  ;D

This, from a recent TDS, seems quite appropriate to repeat here at this time:

French Pole Vaulter’s Bulge Costs Him an Olympic Medal

Elsa Keslassy - August 3, 2024

Aside from Leon Marchand, who clinched his fourth swimming gold medal yesterday, another French athlete, 21-year-old pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati, has become an instant viral phenomenon after an incident involving his crotch.

Ammirati missed his target height and knocked down the pole with his bulge on Saturday, which caused him to fail his qualifying track for the final. The scene left commentators scrambling to find words but it quickly sparked memes and jokes all over social media.

“When you’re about to win an Olympic medal but your massive d*ck gets in the way while the whole world watches in slow motion,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote.

The British gymnast Jake Jarman just took bronze in floor exercises.

I've been wondering about his exotic looks. Then they mentioned that his mother is from the Philippines.

Yeah, I saw that, as did the world... still, I suppose there are worse ways to become famous...
He was on my list of cuties to watch from the beginning, he did very well, up until that moment... a shame.
But it should serve him well using up some of the 200,000 condoms available as a consolation.

Tom Daley retired from diving two years ago. He said that he and his family visited the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs, and shared an emotional moment that ended with his son asking to see Daley compete. “At the end, there was this video of what it means to be an Olympian, and of course, by the end of it, I was crying, and Robbie turned to me and said, 'What's the matter, Papa, what's the matter?'” Daley recalled. “I said I missed diving and I missed the Olympics, and Lance looked at me and said, 'Oh no, I know what this means'. And Robbie was like, 'I want to see you dive at the Olympics'. And that was that.”

Though Daley said he knew there was “no guarantee” he’d be able to qualify, considering he’d taken two years off, he was determined, and is “really proud” of himself for having his hard work pay off.

Total Olympic Medals: 1 Gold | 1 Silver | 3 Bronze

I heard that loss list for the Phillies last night. What with the Olympics (all those hot young gymnasts and divers. ...  ::) ) and some other things that have been going on in my life right now, I haven't been paying attention. I really don't pay attention when the Phils are on a West Coast road trip; those games are broadcast too late back here.

Jeff: The Phillies are playing in Seattle today, but you can catch the game at 4pm your time if you're interested!

The Dodgers finally won a game yesterday, but the Phillies didn't. Phillies have lost 6 in a row! Their odd downturn seems to have begun after they swept the Dodgers here in July. Maybe they caught something from us! I know why the Dodgers are having problems so I looked up why the Phillies are. Apparently, they don't seem to know why, either.

Former MLB players just say "Streaks often happen and there's no rhyme or reason."  When the Dodgers were on their way to the WS in 2017 after a game setting record in August, when it came to September they had an 11 game losing streak which freaked everybody out.

There is no Baseball at the Paris Olympics  :'( - but it will be back in .

Today I was on a train then, but they finally won, 6-0.

I can't imagine how much good he's doing for kids who have to wear glasses. Having been the proverbial/stereotypical fat kid with glasses, I would have loved to have had someone like him to look up to. It wouldn't have made an athlete out of me, but it would have been nice to have someone like him for a hero.

I did not know Daley was competing.

The British athlete I'm in thrall to is the gymnast Jake Jarman.  :P
