Wow! No, I hadn't heard about this, I haven't had a chance to follow things much since I got back, my newspaper backlog is growing once again.

Jonn,

I don't know why this is, but your Royals are the "home team" tonight in a game against
the Tigers that is going to be played in Nebraska.

--This is the first MLB game played in the state of Nebraska.
--It's being played at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, where the College World Series has been played since 2011.
--There are 24,500 seats, plus some standing-room-only tickets.
--ESPN will do the telecast and Royals Radio Network will have the game on radio.
--The Royals are the home team and the third-base side will have the home dugout.

I know MLB Is trying to brand itself to other parts of the globe, playing some official games in Mexico and London this year. Perhaps they are trying to do the same in some parts of the U.S.

Well, that game turned out to be a good one for the Royals, with some interesting notes.

Lopez's 1st MLB Homer Sparks Royals in Omaha
Rookie Nicky Lopez's familiar jack helps KC win MLB's debut in Nebraska

The Rookie's very first homer in the MLB was in Nebraska, at the park his college team (Creighton) played in.

Sweet photo:

The Royals manager, Ned Yost, asked the rookie afterwards:

Ned: "Nicky, is your dad sitting home watching this?’”
Nicky Lopez: "Yeah!"
Ned: "I hate to tell you, but ESPN's TV truck broke down and they weren’t televising it."

CAN YOU IMAGINE?  A technical breakdown caused ESPN to lose the video feed during Lopez’s home run.

BUT: The Royals were able to secure an in-house video of the home run and get it to Lopez.

Lopez also singled and scored in the fourth. Also in the fourth, All-Star candidate Whit Merrifield belted two doubles, one of those producing two runs in the fourth. It was also right-hander Homer Bailey's best performance since April, tossing six scoreless innings. A good night for the Royals winning 7-3 over the Detroit Tigers, in Nebraska, with a sellout crowd of 25,454!

Yu Darvish, whose subpar performance helped us lose the World Series in 2017 in Games 3 & 7, returned to Dodger Stadium last night for the first time since that Game 7. Where was the Yu Darvish for those games like he was last night? He pitched 7 innings and gave up one home run. (He gave up 9 runs in those two WS games.) Our pitcher, Walker Buehler, lasted 7 innings and gave up no runs.  So, it's the 9th inning and it's 1-0. Our closer, who has had a habit this year of giving up a home run when he comes in, more times than you'd like, came in and gave up a home run to the second batter. The score wasn't tied, though, because on his very first pitch he hit the first batter. We lost to the Cubs 2-1. Ugh. And, yes, Yu Darvish got booed when his name was first announced in the lineup, when he went to the mound, and when he first had an at bat. Later on he said "I thought there'd be more." And, I just have to say it: F-Yu.

My friends who went to a game with me last year want to try for another one this year at some point.
All of us have a Dodger cap, but I thought if I could find a hat that has ND on it we could spell out:

Or not!  LOL!

It's the bext ND cap I could find. North Dakota.

I tried to find a Notre Dame cap, Fritz, but they're nearly all like this:

However, this idea will cost $35 with shipping and not sure it's worth it!

Although, since the "LA" is stylized maybe a Notre Dame cap would work:

...or not.

Yes, I have a number of caps with the interlocking ND, the most recent of which has under it 50 Year Club, which we received when we were inducted into that club!

I was quite surprised at how expensive the t-shirts are that they sell at the Bookstore. A far cry from the old days, but they are a lot better looking than the ones they sold back in the 60's, too.

My high school was Holy Cross, the same order as at Notre Dame, and they used a stylized interlocking HC.

What would you want to spell out using ND?

LA LA LAND.

I guess if that wasn't clear it's not such a great idea!

And your Nationals have won 4 games in a row, 7 of the last 10.
You're still close in the Wild Card position; depends on what the management wants to do now.
(There has been talk by sports people of trading Max Scherzer!)

Hoping for the best!

Of course, I derive a certain satisfaction out of the recent series with Philadelphia.  ;)

Me, too, and thanks!  We have trouble with the Phillies,

Yesterday a Marlins player, Wilkin Castillo, hit an RBI double and it was his first hit
in 3,654 days. Castillo's RBI double on Saturday made him the first player in MLB
history with an RBI streak spanning more than 10 years, according to the Elias
Sports Bureau!

That's because ten years ago he was injured and sent back down to the minors
and such and spent the last ten years playing ball and working his way back up
to get in an MLB game. Now that's dedication. You've got to admire something
like that!
