I was trying to find some information on how the two ballplayers were chosen for those posters. I mean, if you were on either of those teams, wouldn't "you" want to be on the poster?

I found nothing, even remotely, as to how they were chosen. The White Sox player is Tim Anderson and the Yankees player is Gleyber Torres. Gleyber has one of those smiles that gets him anything he wants, I imagine. And into trouble, too, probably. I have never heard that name before, Gleyber, so I looked it up. Apparently, his father had been intrigued by the name Qleyber, which he had seen somewhere, and decided to name his son that, only he changed the "Q" to a "G", and wisely, too, I'd say, as can you imagine people trying to pronounce it with a "Q"? So, I'm guessing neither of these players has to worry about being traded for next season!

I never gave it a second thought: I'm going to root for the White Sox next year for this game, because 1.) obviously, it's part of the movie and 2.) well, who wants the Yankees having any more notoriety? Except, if he needs it, I would gladly console Gleyber after the loss.

I was reading an article about some interesting baseball parks. There is one in the Mississippi River. And I mean IN it.

(A "What in the World" in the sports thread.)

It's on the border of Illinois and Iowa and home to the minor league Quad Cities River Bandits.
There’s a special walkway spanning the river to get fans to games. I'd like to have seen the
proposal.  "We'd like to build a baseball field in the Mississippi River."   "Um...O.K.!"

The stadium is currently called Modern Woodmen Park, and believe it or not, it first opened in 1931,
and was lighted for night games!

The five, yes five, Quad Cities are, in order of descending population:
Davenport, Iowa
Moline, Illinois
Rock Island, Illinois
Bettendorf, Iowa
East Moline, Illinois.

(This photo was taken in 2001; the stadium had a different name then.)

I was just going to say "I wonder what happens when the river rises?", but then you showed the picture. :D

On June 21, 2019, at Growden Park in Fairbanks Alaska, they held the 114th Midnight Sun baseball game, played every year since 1906. The game begins at 10:00 p.m. and is played with all natural lighting. The Fairbanks Goldpanners hosted the Seattle Studs. (?) The Studs won in extra innings, 5-4, after 2 a.m.!  MLB should consider a game there one year!

My KC Royals will NEVER make it to the playoffs this year, but at least it's been interesting to see all the players they have called up this year from the Farm Teams. Always someone NEW to check out! Building the team for the future. They DO need to concentrate on the pitching staff for next year! IMHO, you understand?! I'm hoping for a better year in 2020!!!  ;D ;D ;D
