And gosh, we were all so very very young there & then.

And the happiness is palpable!

Yes we were, yes it is, and thank you so much for those great pictures, Ingy!

I'm just coming to this thread...the last few months have been peppered with loss of many kinds for me,
great and small, and I had to just let myself work my way here in my own time to deal with another sad
offering.

I loved John. I met him in Texas and that's where I discovered that he'd lived in Los Angeles for many years.
We could have known each other those years and I wished we had. I had so many conversations with him
over the subsequent years and enjoyed his company on a dozen occasions, including the wonderful Texas BBQ
at Linda's and the BBM screening and events in 2008 and the Autry museum celebration with the play, where
he invited me to attend the workshop of that, days/weeks was it?, beforehand.

We emailed numerous times about BBM related things over the years. The John I knew was a quiet man, but he
had a very amusing sense of humor and I loved hearing him laugh his quiet laugh. I remember when he wore his
authentic BBM shirt to the AMPAS screening and he was sitting in front of me. When the same shirt appeared on
screen I reached out and touched his shoulder and he put his hand over mine and was a lovely moment.

I remember visiting him at his Ramada Hotel room nearby one evening and we chatted about so many things
and he had some wonderful stories to tell about his days in Los Angeles.

Maybe we felt we had a special bond with one another because on that Texas weekend I first met him we discovered
we both had the same birthday and our birthday happens to be the same day Jack & Ennis reunited after 4 years in
BBM.

So nice to read all this, Lyle.

Thanks for those special memories, Lyle.  You and John certainly did have a bond (I do believe in the magic of shared birthdays and other significant dates), and you shared so many meaningful moments with him.

((((((((((((((( Thanks y'all. )))))))))))))))

Yesterday I went to a very old thread to see if I remembered something correctly, and I started reading posts
John had written and it was a kind of catharsis of sorts, revisiting moments that were alive and seemingly
endless.  Then I visited some of the photo pages and felt the same.

I'm sure at some point it must have been mentioned on the forum somewhere -- that Jack & Ennis never had
a photograph of one another to look at all those years. Not one.

From TDS: "John and Diana [Ossana] became friends, often posting on each other's Facebook pages..."

Once in a great while John would write me and tell me what they'd talked about...does she know this news?
We had a private joke about our birthdays that we'd often tease each other about, which I don't wish to say,
but because of that, believe it or not, I don't remember how old John was.  Strange, although lately I seem to
not remember a lot of things very easily.   :-\   When I was young I just couldn't understand how someone
couldn't remember exactly what age they were.  Now I can.

Hello Lyle,

Yes, Diana knows of this news.   She posted this picture on Facebook, with this text.

John during the Brokies' visit to Tucson just a few years ago. He was the kindest, most decent and caring man. I am so sad. We will miss you forever.

Coming to the thread a bit late. Still so sad.  I had hoped to see John this month because I will be near Healdsburg for a graduation.  He always made his hotel sound so lovely, I'd hoped to stop by for a quick visit to reconnect with the lovely man I first met at the BBQ all those years ago.  Thanks for all the shared memories
