Dumb people have very short attention spans.

Just like who they voted for.

When I was on the phone with my sister last year and trying to get her to engage with me about who she was voting for, she asked...actually asked me, "Do you think I'm dumb?"

You are both right. Just me trying to be optimistic.

I got that look from my sister last year when she came over, while I was trying to have a rational discussion about the candidates. She absolutely refused and actually sulked for two days, refused to go anywhere with us. It made me wonder whether she is perhaps dumber than I thought. My other sister just shook her head at me as if saying "Don't go there".

But while I was watching BBC, CNN, France24, Deutsche Welle, Al Jazeera, etc so that I can get a balanced view, she was watching Fox News on her mobile... hopeless.

It is, but it's also a pointless exercise, clearly, and I will no longer bother. :)
I'll never convince them. Perhaps, when things get really bad they will run out of excuses or others to blame instead... (not giving that much hope either).

I agree. I don't believe anything will cause those MAGA types to change their minds.

And right now this is frightening me more than just about anything else he has done:

He's issued a decree from the throne titled "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History," attacking the Smithsonian for promoting "improper anti-American ideology."

Yes, I have been reading on that... disgraceful.

The AP had two articles about it:
Trump executive order on Smithsonian targets funding for programs with 'improper ideology'
https://apnews.com/article/trump-smithsonian-executive-order-improper-ideology-558ebfab722f603e94e02a1a4b06ed4d

and

Critics see Trump attacks on the 'Black Smithsonian' as an effort to sanitize racism in US history
https://apnews.com/article/trump-black-history-smithsonian-dei-687fd306dc9c6d7611300d74fe49b8aa

I've always wanted to go to the Smithsonian (Space etc!) but I never really visited DC, just passed by on my way to Florida. I guess I needn't bother for a while now, until it has been restored.

What he's doing is trying to insanitize the entire country.

It's my word for this cretin and his ilk, combining "insanitary" (unclean or contaminated enough to endanger health) and "insanity" which refers to a state of extreme mental illness or extreme foolishness.

There is a MAGA born every minute
Each time the second hand sweeps to the top
Like dandelions up they pop
Their ears so big, their eyes so wide
The cretin feeds 'em bonafide baloney
With no truth in it
Why you can bet he'll find some rube to buy his corn
'Cause there's a sure-as-shooting MAGA born a minute
And I'm referrin' to the minute he was born.

Today the UK Supreme Court decided there are only two biological sexes, leaving transsexuals and everyone else out in the cold.

Women's campaigners celebrate court win - but what will it change?
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqx4z2ln2j3o

What about people born with both sexes?
Wouldn't it have been better to assign a Third Sex, as other countries have done?

It would be even better if people could just "leben und leben lassen." (Live and let live. I've watched Cabaret quite a few times!)

That article says: "It's important to note that trans people are still protected by the Equality Act."

Of course, but the vulnerable also need rule of law to protect them. Too many ignorant haters out there.

I disagree with the decision anyway. Perhaps the term 'biological female' should have been used, rather than 'woman'. Trans women are women, they are not biological females. Since the protesters, and the court, insist that it is a matter of biology it would mean degrading trans women to no more than freaks. They are not.

The Equality Act, like all of them, provides help and support legally, it doesn't always translate to practical application in any person's life.

The UK still has a sizable influence around the world. Just like Queen Victoria's homophobic laws did away with local culture and attitudes towards LGBTQIA+ so will this judgment affect many in the negative. Back to square 1 for Trans Rights.

Doctrine and Laws are established to protect the minorities from the "tyranny of the majorities"  (Equal rights, Civil rights, .... )

When that's reversed, read that signal as the first flare that a society, as a whole is choosing a dangerous path, on a slippery slope to it's own eventual downfall.  We living in these moments will be judged by history very poorly. Those in power have been beyond brainwashed and see using this scare rhetoric as tool to retain their own power vs doing what's right in the eye of whatever "god" they profess (lie) to believe in.

I never thought I'd live to see books being pulled from library shelves, which is akin to "book burning", in this country in 2025.  We, as a people, are indeed on path to certain self-destruction if the political winds don't reverse course, quickly.  That 15-20% that swung this election by believing Fox Lies and other social BS media, better seek out the TRUTH and vote differently (conscious) come 2026 to muzzle on these SOBs.

In the next few weeks, we are heading for real Constitutional crisis and confrontation of the Judicial and Executive branches while spinless, @@-less  congress sits on the sidelines too afraid to act.  The only way this is resolved is if Judges start locking these bastards up until they follow the rule of law and not just when they like what the law says.   All this has been 40 years in the making, like a frog in slow-boil.  Regan-era lies started it and then Karl Rove really set things in motion with gerrymandering of the states.  The warning signs have been there all along but the Democrats ignored them (IMHO) and tried to play to people's "better angels"... So far that has not worked because the angel are losing to Fox Lies and Russian bots.  It's far time to start hitting back below the belt and hard. Punch harder than the GOP does.. yell louder! The convicted felon and GoTurd has out-lied every POTUS to date and he's still lying every damn time he open his mouth. V>

Trump is a dictator. The USA is now a dictatorship. There's no way around it, it is, in every sense of the word and meaning.

Who would have thought the USA could ever descend so quickly. You are right, it has been many years in the making and the Democrats didn't stop it when law after law was introduced limiting the rights of people and ignoring the Constitution.

A large enough segment of society has been left behind in the progress towards inclusion and modernity, here in Europe it's mostly in the former Iron Curtain states (no surprise if we look at what Russia is today), that they have gained enough power to take over government.

Dictator
Absolutist or autocratic ruler who assumes sole power over the state
A dictator is a political leader who possesses absolute power. A dictatorship is a state ruled by one dictator or by a polity. The word originated as the title of a Roman dictator elected by the Roman Senate to rule the republic in times of emergency. Like the terms "tyrant" and "autocrat", dictator came to be used almost exclusively as a non-titular term for oppressive rule. In modern usage the term dictator is generally used to describe a leader who holds or abuses an extraordinary amount of personal power.

The first syllable of that word sure applies to him.
