McConnell will step down as the Senate Republican leader in November after a record run in the job

BY Michael Tackett - February 28, 2024

Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in history who maintained his power in the face of dramatic convulsions in the Republican Party for almost two decades, will step down from that position in November.

McConnell, who turned 82 last week, announced his decision Wednesday in the well of the Senate, the chamber where he looked in awe from its back benches in 1985 when he arrived and where he grew increasingly comfortable in the front row seat afforded the party leaders.

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” he said. “So I stand before you today ... to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”

He also was the ruination of the Republican party that he professed to love so much.

Let's celebrate some good news today!  Biden knocked it out of the park last night!

Watching Biden's State of the Union speech made me realize that because of the incessant and seemingly non-stop negative chatter in the media about Biden's age that even I had become influenced by it. I was worried that this SOTU speech could possibly go very wrong. I needn't have worried.

And the orange cretin's response to Biden's speech was so childish and immature I wouldn't have expected anything else. I'm particularly offended at his new pathetic name that he calls our my Governor. Gavin New-scum. Does he think he's 14 again? What the heck did he learn growing up when he attended the New York Military Academy?

I loved that Biden was able to attack Trump as "my predecessor."

My favorite part of the speech was when he lambasted the Supreme Court for their abortion ruling. Noticeably absent from the Court attendees were the two worst of them: Sam and Clarence.

Even the maga response to the speech made by Alabama Sen. Katie Britt was a bust, and you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be spoofed on SNL tomorrow night!

You can see the speech on The White House web site.   You can turn on captions and speed it up to 1.25-1.75 speed too.   I find faster than that and I lose understanding the words.

You need to start like 15 mins in until you see the people on the screen:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/state-of-the-union-2024/

Per Lyle below, it is also available on YT.  The link above takes you to the official YT link.

It was a real hair on fire speech and he put the maga bitch from GA and the SCOTUS on notice.  I agree those worthless POS Alito and Thomas don’t have the @@ to show up to face the public. Both of them SOB need to impeached and removed from the bench.

I read that SOB Alito has not attended since Obama called out his ass for the BS Citizens’ United which unleashed all the PAC and monies into the elections.   V.

So now Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed a motion to oust Mike Johnson from the Speaker's chair.

Really, these Repub antics would be funny if they weren't so destructive.

I heard about that today, along with an attack in Russia, and an update on Kate Middleton, she has cancer.

I figured that all along, even though she described it as an incidental discovery.
