Biden is backing major Supreme Court reforms. Here's what they would do.

By Melissa Quinn - July 29, 2024

President Biden on Monday unveiled a trio of proposals to reform the Supreme Court, calling on Congress to pass legislation setting term limits for justices and establish binding, enforceable ethics rules for the nation's highest court.

Mr. Biden's proposed reforms come after the Supreme Court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, issued a series of landmark decisions in recent years that have upended longstanding rulings on abortion, affirmative action in higher education and federal regulatory power.

Those decisions, as well as scrutiny over ethics practices at the high court, have made it a target of Democrats and liberal advocacy groups, who have argued the Supreme Court has undermined public confidence in itself.

Two of Mr. Biden's three proposed changes — term limits and a binding code of conduct — would require action from Congress, making it highly unlikely they will become law before the president leaves office in January 2025. His third reform is a constitutional amendment that clarifies that no president is immune from prosecution for crimes committed while in office. That proposal is Mr. Biden's answer to the Supreme Court's ruling earlier this month finding that former President Donald Trump cannot be prosecuted for official acts taken while in the White House.

But the Supremes can't be bound by a code of ethics that would actually make them more accountable and improve their standing in the eyes of the people. The GOP will block such an outlandish idea.

That's why, along with the Executive Branch, we need to get majorities in the House and Senate!

IF THIS DOESN'T CHILL YOU TO THE BONE:

In an event hosted by the conservative Christian organization Turning Point Action last night:
Former President Trump at a Friday event [...] urged Christians to vote, saying they wouldn’t have to do it again if they got out there in November and elected him because “everything” would be “fixed.” “Christians, get out and vote, just this time,” Trump exclaimed to a cheering crowd in West Palm Beach, Fla. “You won’t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians” he added. “I love you Christians. I’m a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote,” Trump said.

If that's not a warning to everyone I don't know what is. It should be on every Harris for President and Democrat piece of campaign material.

Last night Rachel Maddow had this ominous observation: (6 mins.)

I am going to try and share this with some who need to hear it. I realize that some will just think it's nonsense, a form of what they like to call Trump Derangement Syndrome, and excuse it away, but Forewarned is Forearmed. I think it's entirely plausible when you take these two videos in total.

Love to hear anyone's opinions.

Wow. I've been watching the Olympics, nice break from the elections... but I did watch the occasional news on the main channels here, and online. No one mentions this.

Like with any good coup, preparation and organisation are key. He had four years to set things up, like 9/11, that's time enough to get your people in place, etc. I don't like conspiracy theories, I just assume they're all true these days. I do know, first hand, how some of the ultra rich skew things their way, as I spent some time in those circles not too long ago (glad I'm out, human life actually matters to me!). With enough money very few courts and elected leaders are resistant, or simply able, to withstand that kind of pressure.

I was at the Paris military air show about a decade ago, when someone in our group, a Russian, said to an American general, while watching air maneuvers, "I like that plane, I want one". The general answered, "Those are prototypes, at half a billion dollars each." "Good," said the Russian, "I'll take two!" We all laughed, but he was not only serious, but quite able.

We are living in a corporate future, which is quite independent of politics, they don't care who's on the visible throne because they are. My neighbour was telling me how the free masons are also at it again here in Europe. The French do love their pastis and the good stories that come out of it... but who knows.

Like you say, forewarned is forearmed. And if he is spilling the beans, being arrogant enough, the democrats need to take note.
The universe doesn't care. It's up to you.

Project 2025 director steps down amid backlash from Trump

By Steve Contorno and Kristen Holmes - July 30, 2024

The director of Project 2025, the conservative blueprint for a potential second Donald Trump term, has stepped down amid intense criticism including from the former president.

Paul Dans, a former top adviser in Trump’s administration, steered Project 2025 as it carved a leading role in shaping discourse around what conservatives dreamed they could accomplish if Republicans won back the White House. While a source with knowledge of the planning said Project 2025 would be effectively ending its policy operations, others familiar with the matter noted that it was always the plan to move on to the next phase now – and efforts to build a conservative personnel apparatus would continue.

Project 2025’s plans to radically reshape the federal government and American life, spelled out in detail in an exhaustive 900-page playbook, provided ample fodder for Democrats to warn against Trump’s return to power.

In recent months, Trump has lashed out against Project 2025, calling some of its ideas “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal.” He strained to distance himself from the work, claiming he had “no idea who is behind it.” Top Trump adviser Chris LaCivita recently referred to Project 2025 as “a pain the a**” for the Trump campaign.

I expect that they'll just rename their plans and keep the jist of it. A cesspool by any other name woud stink to high heaven.

They really seem to have gone too far this time in their overconfidence. It's still nearly 100 days before the election, but, due in part to their mistake in selecting a VP candidate, my confidence that they and their works may be overcome is increasing. Just hope nothing in their bag of dirty tricks jinxes Harris and her pick of VP. I trust they may be prepared for the GOP to do their worst.

I would love to see a repeat of each time Obama won.   The GOP were so sure they would win, and the shock of the next day lingered.

I get a big kick out of one of the Harris attack adds that's running here in Pennsylvania (maybe elsewhere, too?). In an ominous tone a female voice characterizes her as "a dangerous San Francisco liberal."

Let's pick on San Francisco!  ;D

I still wish I would see more commercials attacking the GOT and his a _ _-kissing minion from Ohio.

Project 2025 director steps down amid backlash from Trump
By Steve Contorno and Kristen Holmes

The director of Project 2025, the conservative blueprint for a potential second Donald Trump term, has stepped down amid intense criticism including from the former president.

Is this what CNN is reporting? Yesterday all the news I heard is that Trump's main campaign advisor Chris LaCivita, who recently referred to Project 2025 as “a pain the a**” for the Trump campaign" as noted, orchestrated this. Most of Project 2025 was instituted by Trump advisors aka minions and this faux show of distancing themselves from it means nothing as to whether it's something they want to do or not. They're only distancing themselves from it because it's rightly gotten attention and sane people don't like it. Don't believe it for a second. The Heritage Foundation's Kevin Roberts, the ones behind the takeover of Magas in the Supreme Court, is behind this. His book about it is coming out in the fall and V.P. candidate J.D. Vance has written the forward to it.

This is just bait and switch. Read this article:

FOREWARNED
Read J.D. Vance’s Violent Foreword to Project 2025 Leader’s New Book
Trump’s running mate writes that “it’s time to circle the wagons and load the muskets.”

Sure it is. Trump knows all about it, he's lying as usual. It's part of his Grand Plan to become King of the World. Good luck with that! Even if he would make it as King of America, over here we know how to deal with royalty... especially here in France!

So that was what that sketch in the Olympics Opening Ceremony was all about... where they were dressed up as Marie Antoinette and singing, holding their heads in their hands...

Forewarned, indeed.

The universe doesn't care. It's up to you.

You can tell the San Francisco thing is a talking point because every Republican on news programs the past few days keep repeating the San Francisco liberal talking point. They must think that's the worst kind of liberal. They are so transparent.

This article is a couple years old, but still valid:

Actually, San Francisco Isn’t That Liberal and Never Was
https://washingtonmonthly.com/actually-san-francisco-isnt-that-liberal-and-never-was/
___

I see because the Democrats use of Weird toward the Republican ticket has caught on, Vance keeps trying to get the word Wacky into the mix toward the Democrats. What the Democrats should just do is add the word and starting calling the Republican ticket Weird & Wacky. Fits them both to a tee.
