I'm not a huge fan of Michelle, but I looked up her acceptance speech anyway. Just curious.

Uhm  :-\  Not sure what to think of it. And it seemed to have caused quite some controversy online and in other media.

OK. I´ve watched it twice and I think  her speech was brave and well-reasoned (though she doesn't have the best voice for making speeches - it's quite whiny, IMO). I don't understand what was controversial  about the content - maybe because I live in another culture? She never mentions the a-word,
and doesn't  specify which choices she has made in her life.  She doesn´t get very private. Will  someone please enlighten me? What was controversial with this?

*nods*  Same for me. "The A-word" (as you put it) isn't nearly as controversial here as it is in other parts of the world.

Many, many, many people seem to think Michelle went too far with her speech on "reproductive rights" (as I read somewhere) and see it as a pro-abortion statement - to say the least. Which it is, I think.

It's always tricky for celebrities to get political during awards nights, particularly now with #metoo, Weinstein and all that.

Well, I understand, but yet not.To be pro women's reproductive rights, doesn´t necessarily mean to be "pro abortion" in the way that you think of it as something positive. A person can be pro abortion rights  without being pro abortion. And abortion rights look different considering  the number of weeks, for example, in different countries. The problem, IMO, is that people as so often think in black or white. And nowadays more actors seem to be political than not!

There is a whole legion of people who don't think celebrities, or actors, should voice their opinions in Award shows........I don't either. IMHO, they are receiving an AWARD for goodness's sake!! Acknowledge the people who GOT you there, and be gracious!! It shouldn't BE a political, or personal belief, platform. Just my opinion............

I loved Michelle's speech. It was controversial because some people are opposed to women's rights and others think celebrities shouldn't say anything but thank you. For me, this is a time for action and for standing up to the evil forces that are trying to take choice away from women. I think Michelle was right in what she said and right to say it.

Oh  ;D  Hm. Well. OK. It's a matter of opinion, of course. What really baffled me, in the comments online, is how, after Michelle's speech, people automatically assumed that she'd had an abortion herself... WTF?! She's never talked about her private life in such detail - and I guess she never will. In that way, she resembles Jake, who's also very private - and I understand why more and more.

For me, this is a time for action and for standing up to the evil forces that are trying to take choice away from women.

Yep. But it's a shame those "evil forces" still don't know better.

Michelle racked up another deserved accolade at the SAG Awards last night. She also had on a much better dress than at the Globes and gave another nice speech concentrating on the people she worked with.

This time something else happened, too. Sam Rockwell also won the SAG Award for Best Actor in Television movie or limited series and he was quite ecstatic about it, as was Michelle who had thanked him in such a nice way in her speech.
