From the 6/23 TDS:

Captain Kirk As Bisexual

The possible move to make Captain Kirk bisexual might well alienate fans, given that no other Star Trek canon indicates that he is anything other than straight. However, depending on the way he’s portrayed, if CBS goes down this route, the character could end up alienating the bisexual community.

I kinda was alienated when I read the article title and then find out they're calling this: "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."

And comments about this, too:

Lee Daniels Couldn't Watch ‘Brokeback Mountain’

For those of us on this forum...has ANYONE ever heard this before? That he "was the original director of this?" We've heard about other directors attached to this at one time or another, but I've never heard that Lee Daniels was.

Quote
Daniels produced 2001's "Monster's Ball," which made history as Halle Berry became the first woman of color to win best actress at the Oscars, so "Brokeback Mountain" would have been his second producing credit but his first directing credit.

I know so many people that don't just "not like" Monster's Ball, but they have angry visceral dislike for it. I don't like it, myself, but not to that level. Makes you wonder, since Heath was in Monster's Ball, if Daniels would've considered Heath for Brokeback Mountain? Larry McMurtry said seeing him in Monster's Ball made him think he'd be right for Ennis. So we can thank Daniels for eating him in that, for one thing, I guess.

Quote
"When [Jack and Ennis] first had sex in the tent, I saw that scene how I would direct it, so I just couldn't imagine any other filmmaker doing it justice. Especially a straight filmmaker taking it on."

1.). After hearing Daniels say that first part, wouldn't any person, much less an interviewer, ask "How would you have directed that scene?" Indeed, how?

2.) An acquaintance of mine (he's gay and he's Asian) who I knew from the Video establishment I worked at and had met him because he was a customer there and also because he worked for Columbia Pictures Home Video in the publicity and promotions departments and I was the buyer for the stores (I actually first met him in Washington, D.C. at a VSDA convention where Columbia was promoting a release of Ghostbusters at the time) ...he stands by what he told me that Ang Lee is not straight, but gay.

Around the time Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was going to be released by Columbia on home video I was talking to him in the store and we were talking about the movie. I mentioned to him that I'd heard* speculation that Ang was gay and he forthrightly replied, "Oh, yes, he's one of us." I was surprised of his quick direct response, I guess I expected some correlating speculative wonder, so I asked him how he knew that. He said he'd spent a weekend with him when he came to his offices where they were forming a home video release plan for the film, and they'd spent time dinner together and went out somewhere for drinks. (When you're working you don't always have time to ask follow up questions, you have to get back to work.)  This was before Brokeback Mountain was upcoming.  So years later, when Brokeback Mountain was in the news and you'd hear that same thing about a straight director helming the film, I asked him what that was all about and he was like, "why do you think?" "He's got a wife, so they equal being married you're straight."

*I wonder now where I heard that at the time and why?

A friend of mine once said he thinks that a straight director might do one gay film, but wouldn't be inclined to do another. Ang Lee has done three. And he's always referred to his The Hulk film as "a coming out story," and told Charlie Rose he likes films where the characters have secrets.  Wonder why Ang would like these sorts of things?

Quote
Eventually, however, Lee Daniels did see it.
"I saw it, like, 15 years later."

So...THIS YEAR?

Quote
Daniels went on to direct "Precious" as his second feature film.

A film that wallows in misery. One reviewer called it "torture porn".

Quote
I think that if a straight man wants to play a gay role, sure, why not? And if gay men want to play straight men, sure, why not? It's called acting."

Wonder how far he would go in other areas of race, sex, age, nationality, etc. etc etc.?

I liked the interview with Daniel Newman! We surely need to spread awareness about the fact that many people don't open up about their bisexuality.

Hello pickpaint01.

I'm glad you liked the story about Captian Kirk, but I would like to be clear that this is not my story.   I search the 'net for the stories I want to highlight in TDS, and link to them so the original article is read by the author.

None of the stories I post in TDS are written by me.  I'm not saying that's what you were suggesting, I just wanted to clarify.

7/7 TDS: Queer Directors say 'Brokeback Mountain' is Still the 'Quintessential LGBT Movie' 15 Years On, But...

Because this TDS edition has another INSIDER article that repeats their other recent article about Lee Daniel's directing BBM and his other statements about it and Ang Lee, I refer to my June 24th post above  ^  as comment on that.

On the other hand, the rest of this article...anyone want to discuss it on the Awards Aftermath Thread:  HERE!

A new study makes clear what we already knew to be an absolute truth: Male bisexuality exists.

Was somebody having doubts? Sounds like reinventing the wheel. :)

LOL. Any # of bible-thumpers readily deny anything other than straight has ever or ever will exist as long as they breathe.   >:(
